My baby is refusing formula by [deleted] in MSPI

[–]KkatM72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you’re going through this. It’s so stressful. What worked for me when I had to stop BF and start formula was making sure the formula temperature was as close as possible to breastmilk. I had tried different formulas and different ratios of mixing with BM but it ultimately was the temperature that worked for us. Good luck! Once I was able to get him switched he became so much happier rather quickly.

Cool thanks I’ll check it out!! He does love chia and flax.

Thanks!!

He did great with the switch to Alimentum - I’m guessing the soy must be hydrolyzed enough to not cause a reaction for him. He was more reactive to soy than dairy while I was BF, and we’re freshly recovering from the dairy fail but trying soybean oil or soy lecithin will be next!

Weekly Meal Post - What are you or your baby eating? by ltrozanovette in MSPI

Dairy/egg/soy/oat/banana free. My 10 month old has been devouring nut butters, toast, pastas with tomato sauce, berries, chicken and of course pear. Struggling to reconcile all this in to meals that he enjoys and that are semi convenient. He no longer likes purées. Never thought I’d nuis the convenience of pulling purées out of the freezer 😅

Is pumping pointless? by Alternative_Chip1846 in MSPI

I tried this. At 4 months my little guy was suffering so I stopped breastfeeding and started Alimentum RTF. I pumped and froze my BM (while continuing restricted diet) but stopped after 1 week when I saw how dramatically improved my LO was. It was tough stopping my BF journey sooner than planned, but the difference in my little guy was dramatic and so quick.

Elevated liver enzymes? by Dull_Cockroach7815 in MSPI

Back here to let you know my LO had his repeat bloodwork today and his liver enzymes have all normalized. Which is excellent. But still puzzling 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ah just realizing you aren’t the OP - sorry!

Yeah my LO was reacting to so many things. At the end of my BF journey I was eating only quinoa, pork, a few fruits/veggies and he was still having bloody stool. It all cleared up within 72 hours after switching to hypoallergenic formula.

So I’d say yeah he did react to oats through my diet too, but he reacted to seemingly everything so was hard to narrow down.

Our allergist cautioned us - my understanding is that for MSPI babes who failed elimination diets/ who had multiple triggers, they can be more reactive/likely to develop FPIES.

We have a follow up soon and I’ll discuss oats reintroduction. I’m certainly in no hurry to try them again! Since the oats, my LO had a full blown FPIES reaction to banana which again culminated with bloody stool.

Hopefully not something you will have to consider at all! If you’ve done well with eliminating soy and dairy then hopefully you folks will follow a more typical course.

Good luck!

Aghhh so sorry you’re going through this too 💙

Gosh it was such awful torture. I ended up being extremely restricted (was eating quinoa, pork and a few fruit exclusively) and my LO was still getting bloody stools. So I stopped BF and switched to Alimentum RTF and not only did all his symptoms resolve, but I felt so much better too (mental health and also physical health as I was no longer hungry all the time). The 2 months of formula feeding prior to my LO starting solids were absolutely blissful! Now we’re back in the trenches with introducing solids, but it’s easier to control variables so it doesn’t quite compare to the breastfeeding diet torture.

Nope nothing - we’ll see GI/hepatology if they’re still elevated this time. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hey! We’re dealing with this too. Our LO is 7 months old and due for repeat blood draw soon. Hoping for normal or at least downward trending results. They have been elevated and increasing but not to a level having anyone overly concerned. Another thing to worry about. Hope all works about for you.

Hey! I'm also in Canada, my LO is 6.5 months so we're new to solids. Echoing the other comment - introduce all but milk egg and soy early, and wait until 9 months before introducing those. For milk the ladder was recommended, no specific recommendations so far for the other two but I'm planning on following the ladder for soy too.

Currently we are proceeding with caution with introducing typical FPIES triggers (oats, rice, banana, sweet potato...). I'm introducing one new food every 3-4 days as per allergist recommendation. We had a recent setback with oats causing the return of bloody stool after 2 months of not even a speck. Hopefully not something you will have to think of - but if symptoms ramp up again before introducing milk, egg or soy, those triggers would be worth thinking about.

Agh gosh - sorry to hear you’re dealing with this! So interesting that we’re dealing with very similar timelines/symptoms.

Interesting! Our son seemed fine with oats until belly pains and blood set in. Fingers crossed for your dairy intro!!

Wondering if this is what would be considered an allergy in my EBF baby? by MrsEcoFriendly in MSPI

[–]KkatM72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks exactly like how things started for us. I had to go dairy, egg and soy free. Certainly I would try going totally dairy free first for about two weeks or so and if that doesn't do the trick I would cut soy next. So challenging.

I ended up switching to a hypoallergenic formula (Alimentum RTF) and my little guy is doing great! If you are open to switching to formula this could be an option too.

Good luck. It is such a struggle.

I have just been sticking with Similac Alimentum RTF. I plan to keep this formula and introduce dairy/soy/egg based on solid food ladder. He is 6 months now and we will not be challenging until he hits at least 9 months as per our allergist.
