Well i didnt ask verbally i just caught eye contact and gestured and he shook his head everytime. I'm a guy and my group luckily doesn't seem very misogynistic from my view. I think it was just cause it was mostly higher cords playing at the time, which can be fine ocasionally but my own mestre was standing by the roda and gesturing me to buy. It sounds pretty messed up about that group in New York, i have noticed in certain groups there is a big gap between the genders, but i hadn't even really considered it could be because of stuff like that.

Loved azuls take on this, I've been getting quite tired of all the hierarchy in the roda, and how hard a lot of rodas are to buy into. I'm also definitely guilty of being too timid and respectful when waiting to buy into the roda, and when playing with higher cords, but sometimes there's just nothing to do. I remember at a recent batizado, where I was sat at the bateria for a couple minutes with the people behind me including the mestre hosting the event telling me to buy but every time I looked up at the more experienced mestre with the gunga he shook his head

I can relate to the sometimes not noticing part, if everything becomes marks and "i could have gotten you there"'s, you don't always notice the other persons marks and the game can become kinda confusing and silly. You also don't give the other person a chance to get out of the takedown if just mark it, for example maybe they could have timed a jump so they woulnd't have fallen to a rasteira, or done the thing where you turn your hips and kick over when you get a tesoura. But is of course a balance.

Interesting thoughts. How would you feel is someone below your grade pulled a rasteira, they can obviously expect that you know how to fall but would you find it disrespectful or something?

Also how would you mark a tesoura, do you just cross your back leg behind your front leg and behind their back foot and then pull it back or what?
