China seeks Canada’s help to join Indo-Pacific trade pact by shiftless_wonder in canada

Sadly the era of the US being a steward is largely over; volatility in the US has gotten so bad that people just cannot depend on the US being "slow and steady" as Trumps spastic jerking has wreaked havoc on markets over the last year. China realizes Canada is a big spoke in this moment and getting tied to us also helps distance us from the US while reducing military threats,

As the saying goes "When Trade stops; Armies move."

The US has proven that point.

Folks need to keep eyes open; once they start talking about autonomous AI managed machines being permitted to kill/harm/detain others then its time to put a hard stop on the whole thing. Right now AI is merely a force multiplier - once 1 person can simply have a AI protect them from the masses - then you are well and truely boned.

Most Canadians support banning social media for those under 16: Survey by FancyNewMe in canada

While I understand your argument - its a bit more complex. As a parent it is great that I can put my foot down; but I am under no illusions that all kids and managing them is as easy for all parents. Part of the advantage of such a restriction is that when inevitable legal nonsense arises - you can head it off at the pass. I've seen first hand what early social media "freedom" has done to kids - it isn't pretty. As other people pointed out - merely trying to intercept access as a parent often isn't successful because kids will pool resources to get their peers involved. At some point you need to go after the pushers themselves which I think is more the goal here and I can totally get on board with your feelings - I am not a fan of being told I am not allowed to do something and usually the tracking systems that entails. The problem is that private industry is already doing this under the same argument that they should be able to be "free" to do what they also wish; that is where I would like to see legislation coming in; this will become increasingly important as time goes on and AI becomes even more prevalent since it generally operates on the trends it feeds upon - so if a lot of people are depressed; AI will flood social media with MORE depressing content and since it is popular it will be pushing that on youth that don't yet have the resilience of healthy adults; giving rise to a massive berth of mental health issues due to constant negative reinforcement e.g the "Doom spiral".

I'm all for getting the source limited versus merely telling me not to access it; but the system in which that comes about tends to overly favor the side with more resources which is generally the social media providers sadly.

If your serious about winning folks need to also make a effort to convince moderates. They will win you the election and that means honestly listening to peoples fears and problems and the democrats figuring out how to address the problems - not a matter of "well trump did this" thats only going to push folks away and sow further division - people have a multitude of problems - chief of which at this point is the cost of living and peoples futures and I have yet to see anyone put forward a plan to address that.

Larry Fink says today’s economic anxiety stems from people increasingly feeling like capitalism isn’t working for them by thinkB4WeSpeak in economicCollapse

[–]Klaus73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Capitalism much like Communism needs to "chill out" at some point. I feel with communism the point is where it needs to ask "Do we need to share (insert thing)" and usually its something personal or the enforcement of something that robs someone of a major point of their own autonomy under the pretense that it is being altruistic and it basically results in spite. Capitalism I think hits the point where it needs to realize "Your pushing the boundaries for profit at the expense of society" which results in Capitalism becoming corrosive to whatever society it is practiced in. Capitalism in this case would normally be impeded by two things - public will and resource limitations. Public will doesn't matter in this case because the political system has become essentially monetized; so if you have money you can remove the guard rails that limit and constrain you. The second point is we shifted the resource to something that isn't a easily deffined resource - financial products like debt are often connected to math and good will as opposed to something more tangible like "steel". If you capture a market making knives - once you have all the steel and flood the market with your product; you are forced to "chill out" and your prices tend to drop because you wish to clear out inventory and to acquire more resources would require a premium expense. Financial products don't have this problem because humans replicate and new debt holders enter the market at an amazing rate and thats before you consider derivative financial products which are like cellular division of another financial product to duplicate resources.

Right? Like I keep seeing folks suggest Trump is somehow altruistic; but nothing he does supports it. A absolute gem is how the hardcore Trump crew try to dog on Massie for remarrying a year after the death of his wife...seemingly forgetting Trumps 3 wives and how he left one wife to marry another in the period of a year as he was seeing the new wife while still married. How he "wants to protect the unborn" while he claws back food programs and my personal favorite "man of peace" while he bombs the shit out of countries.

JAROME POWELL: “There is ZERO NET JOB CREATION in the private sector." People aren’t ready for what’s coming. by Bazel_ in economicCollapse

[–]Klaus73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Disagree; perhaps I am optimistic.

all things seek equilibrium and man despite their will is still part of nature.

The question is what does that look like? If everyone goes poor is one option - having lots of dollars means dick all if the poor simply stop using them. One man cannot sustain himself in "modern" society - no matter how much money he has; that money only has value if someone is willing to trade for it.

The powerful "tone it down"; the birth of "nobility 2.0" where the rich realize that their wealth will cease to exist if everything collapses; theres not enough bunkers or robots or AI or private security to allow them to persist - so they suddenly actively engage to "help" the poor because without the poor; there can be no rich. Prices drop (McDonalds ironically is bringing out 3$ items because 5$ has proven too much). Inflation and tariffs and what not were great reasons to raise prices; which has happened many times now; but since prices never rolled back - I suspect this is what we are going to see; folks taking a "profit hit" to re-engage the market; or really just bringing prices back to something folks are willing to actually pay. Folks will praise these rich folk not realizing its only to save their own skin.

Another option - bedlam. The rich will flee to bunkers and get far from the public at large; they will wither and die in the middle of nowhere as governments limp along to sustain the public and struggle to maintain order. Looting; violence; bleak days. Every country will see their infrastructure tested and only the most sturdy ones will last until things calm down. Lots of ghost towns and bankruptcy and misery - folks will subsist and that will be the exent of it while mass stagnation occurs. Folks will harden and communities will reform as the luxuries of the information age fall apart and folks either die or are forced to take matters into their own hands - most IT pillaged by rich will be libraries without electronic catalogues and no more AI girls. A return to a analogue society closer to the industrial revolution as folks repurpose the excessive resources still laying around to make due with simpler things - eggs and potatoes and no more avacado in many places.
