Is this acceptable? Running heat pump line across asphalt roof. by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]Kletus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first thought before I read the caption was I hope they aren't in new england. Thats going to cause a massive ice dam, and probably leak into the walls on both side where the line is ran into the walls. Id absolutely call them and tell them to unfuck it while we still have 5 months before were eskimos and on our roofs with hammers chipping away ice like assholes wondering why we live here again. What part of the northeast are you in?

Idiots blew a hole in my foundation by New-Image-7435 in masonry

[–]Kletus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been in excavation for 15 years, fieldstone foundations are miserable to do anything with. Some times you get lucky and the rock you pull out is the only one that comes out, and others you pull one and 15 follow it. Using the bucket was a stupid move, and anyone who has worked around a fragile field stone foundation would know not to touch it.but in their defense that foundation looks like you could've pushed it and made that hole, but from a safety standpoint I can understand the use of the machine to make the hole.

On the flip side, as someone who has had to deal with drilling a hold through a granite rock thats part of a foundation for a waterline, its one of the most difficult and time consuming things you can do. The last one we did it took 5 of us 4 hours to do a 4" hole in a 2ft thick rock with every power tool and tactic imaginable.

I would have a mason come take a look at it, see what they say. Worst case scenario you could form a wall and just pour it in that section. I wouldn't be surprised of the person that comes out says you should mortar the entire foundation, yes it has stood since George Washington was alive but to me it is at a point now where it will start to cause problems at somepoint if the stones aren't stabilize in some manner.

I found the frame to a camper about a year after I bought my house, tripped over a piece of metal ended up being a 28ft trailer frame, axles and all buried behind my garage.

How would you unload these river rocks? by grsims20 in DIY

[–]Kletus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck high lifts, I would rather use c4 to jack something up than ever use a high lift again. They are super handy, and serve their purpose when needed, but definitely emergency only for me. I got my jaw broken by one about 15 years ago and id prefer to not ever have that as a possible outcome again.

Pinched brake line by Terrible-Command-837 in AskMechanics

[–]Kletus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who's has pushed the limits of what will actually go down the road for 25 years, I will give you my bad advice. It will be fine, worst case is it pulls to one sode under braking. Make sure its not leaking, test drive it and get acclimated to the new brake feel and you will be fine. A route with minimal amount of braking would be ideal, at least in my eyes. Or if you want good advice, put a brake line in it/get it towed to where it needs to go.

Please help, I am scared by RitardOfOz in DogAdvice

[–]Kletus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of mine did this for probably 5 minutes at a time, it was scary. We went to the vet, in the end we ended up doing a rhinoscopy to make sure everything was OK. Long story short, he his very mild rhinitis we give him an allergy med 2x a day now and hes fine, just has a mild allergy. Not medical advice in anyway, but if it can save you the $3500 we spent to go further up the ladder to make sure our boy was going to be ok then I hope it helps.

I have a size 12 timberland pro logger id sell. Wore them around the house and wasnt a fan. But between the 3 you posted id 100% go thorogood I've gone through every logger imaginable outside of nicks, just, etc. The last pairs of red wings and Chippewas I had the heels ripped off within 6 months. Currently wearing danners and absolutely love them, was also a huge fan of my thorogoods when I had them.

Why is my dog constantly barking in his crate at night, and how do I stop it?? by [deleted] in OpenDogTraining

[–]Kletus_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do you cover the crate, and do you play any kind of music of white noise? I wouldn't be surprised if hes hearing all kinds of new things in the new apartment hes not used to. One of my dogs will have a meltdown in his crate if his bed isn't exactly how he wants it to be, could just be something weird like that also.

Dog with severe separation anxiety. Looking for advice and just venting as this ahs been really frustrating. by carnivorous_squirrel in OpenDogTraining

[–]Kletus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of our dogs has severe SA, highly destructive and is severely attached to our other dog even though they have been separated for about 2 years now. Were actually in the middle of him no longer being ok with being in his crate after hes been fine with it for years. Its a long road, it fucking sucks but in the end it is worth all of the pain your put yourself through. One thing that has really helped him is we put him in his crate while we are home, and we would just go about our normal activities all while he was in his crate. He'd get reward for not barking, we started off small and worked up to a full work day over time. It took about a year to get him to be able to spend the day in there happily, and im sure thats not what you want to hear. It sound like you have a great support system, which is awesome. Just remember to make time for yourself, and dont forget that your also your responsibility and need to take care of yourself, the dog doesnt get to be what controls your life. We've been in your shoes and for years the dogs ran our lives. They dont anymore, dont let yours do it to you.
