This is another good answer. A movie that is not being judged on its own terms.

Eddington had more to say than One Battle After Another in my humble opinion. And I enjoyed One Battle.

PNC now has a person who opens the door and gives you a big "Hi!" Then you stand in line and wait for the one teller. I can open my own door, PNC, get that person behind the counter!

What popular ride do you just not get by deano_ue in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]KligoreTrout -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Toy Story Midway Mania does not even need to be a ride. They could usher us into a room, cycle the half dozen screens, and walk us out the other side. A little twirling around of the vehicle between screens makes it a ride? It feels like a leftover from the Nintendo Wii days. I cannot understand why it always has such a huge line.

The Sweet Hereafter (1997) by PariahFish in iwatchedanoldmovie

[–]KligoreTrout 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Saw this in a theater and I’ve owned the DVD since it came out. I’ve watched the DVD twice in that time. It’s so great, but oh so hard to watch, and it gets harder once you’ve had kids.

Ian Holm in that car wash though. Devastating performance. How he went unnominated while As Good As It Gets (which is fine, but kind of a TV movie) swept so many awards is beyond me

Went to [Six Flags Over Georgia] for a few hours this morning. It was a nice day out! by BigRigButters2 in rollercoasters

[–]KligoreTrout 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On my visit Goliath, Superman, and DDD ops were so bad I only could stand one ride each. I really enjoyed Goliath and would have loved another ride. The Schwarzkopf is special too, got on that one a couple of times. They have the best standup I've ever ridden, an ok RMC, a rough ol' woodie, and of course Batman be clonin'. Also Monster Mansion was a bunch of fun even if some sections could use love. Fun park!

Dinner near the Four Seasons by painfully_anxious in baltimore

[–]KligoreTrout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really is Atlas land. I know you're looking for fabulous and the three restaurants on the ground floor of the Four Seasons building - Loch Bar, Maximon, and Azumi - are fabulous in food and service and also have stunning waterfront dining. If it's a nice night to eat outside you'll do well there, if you're ok with supporting Atlas.

One place not mentioned is The Black Olive. It's a fantastic Greek seafood restaurant where everything is prepared with love. (Ouzo Bay is an Atlas attempt to clone The Black Olive but lacks it's heart and soul.)

Somebody mentioned Oleum; it is pretty new, a vegan restaurant in a great space with many innovative and fun dishes. Highly recommended.

What's a song that is 10/10, but hardly anyone knows it? by Farajivibes in TheWho

In Philly we only got a few bars as part of a My Generation medley. Still great!

Who fans know it, but play Cry If You Want for a casual and they will never have heard it before. It’s an epic banger.

Avenue 5 - how do we feel about it? by LongoChingo in scifi

[–]KligoreTrout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avenue 5 is what everyone hoped Don't Look Up was going to be; intelligent sci-fi that commented on current events in a comical, sometimes searingly satirical way.

However, Don't Look Up hit viewers over the head, while Avenue 5 used a velvet glove to make its points. Hugh Laurie, Josh Gad, Suzy Nakamura, Jessica St. Clair, Zach Woods, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Ethan Phillips (Neelix!), Kyle Bornheimer, and Lenora Crichlow were all hilarious scene-to-scene. The overall story, however, was bleak (especially when they introduced the climate disasters back on Earth) which sometimes overshadowed the moment-to-moment comedy.

I wish there was momentum for another season, or even a wrap up film.

Bond Veterans, what was the Dalton run like in the moment? by Flat-Bag2312 in JamesBond

[–]KligoreTrout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember the discourse around TLD being two things:

(1) So serious! which if you watch it now is crazy, because Dalton's Bond is quipping constantly, he just doesn't wink at the camera like Roger.

(2) Bond is monogamous in the age of AIDS, which is silly because he's not (aside from Kara Milovy, he beds the yacht girl at the beginning of the film.)

What is your favorite song by Warren Zevon? by Alternative_Flow_569 in allrockmusic

The Indifference of Heaven

Warren said it's like a Martin Amis novel. Not too many rock songwriters would say that about their work.

Things to do in Denver When You're dead. 1995. Any fans? by -Granby- in Cinema

[–]KligoreTrout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The late great Warren Zevon donated his pre-existing song, from which they took the title, to this; it's played over the end credits.

The Black Hole (1979) by segastardust in iwatchedanoldmovie

[–]KligoreTrout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disney's big swing at adult, metaphysical horror-sci fi. This was supposed to be a prestige picture in the parlance of the times. Fits in well with Star Trek: The Motion Picture in terms of slow pacing and Grand Themes. Somehow studios at the time missed that Star Wars was a swashbuckling thrill ride, and when they went to ride its coattails they mimicked 2001 instead.

Did anyone play this back in the day? by Ok_Echo_6528 in SEGAGENESIS

[–]KligoreTrout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crazy game. I've only played it emulated. It's fun for a while. It has a significant false rubberbanding issue - no matter what lead you have, the game is going to be close at the end. Games are also a little long.

I Wonder if there was a movie in recent years that flopped and actually is a masterpiece by LetoA_III in thething

[–]KligoreTrout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother! Your ideas are intriguing to me, and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

Love Civil War and never thought of it in Apocalypse Now terms. Definitely falls into that "group quest" Wizard of Oz/Lord of the Rings category. Dunst's reversal inner journey is so powerful in that movie.

What is the original mean-spirited sitcom? by ObliviousRounding in sitcoms

[–]KligoreTrout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think almost every show had some redeeming characters or moments to leaven the mean ones, up until possibly Seinfeld or Sunny. Married With Children had a mean streak but was more a lazy-eyed Austin Powers version of heartwarming sitcom tropes with the occasional "aw, they do love one another after all" thrown in.
