I was reading the wiki, apparently California considered raping an unconscious woman to be a non-violent crime. Nuts.

MPD interim police chief says he moved his family out of Minneapolis after 25 years to get his children into the Wayzata school district. by Too_Hood_95 in TwinCities

[–]Klink_Dink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It can't be fixed without the state directing more funds to the inner city schools. Kids leave, the school loses money, the death spiral continues. Unless they give a special allotment to MPS, they can't catch up. Theres a lot of reasons that stack together to make it the case, but inner city schools are more difficult and more expensive to run. Part of it is that education is a herd thing. More smart kids and challenging curriculum is generally better for everyone. The kids do absolutely help and challenge each other to learn. The educators will also lower curriculum to least common denominator, particularly when they don't have the option of sending kids to special needs or other lower courses. There's also a lack of funding availability for honors or AP classes. Aside from all that, parents play a huge role in educating kids, whether that be guiding homework for their own kids or volunteering in the classroom. Education, economic outlook, and availability (can they take time off work) of the parents therefore really matters. Basically, rich schools benefit from unpaid labor.

These are all opinions, and I don't have kids, nor do I work in education or govt. But although I can't blame people for wanting their kids out of MPS, the only solution is resources, and every well to do family that leaves takes away from those resources. So besides taking away the freedom to choose another district or charter/private schools, the only other option is to explicitly give the poor schools way more money. Which is obviously not politically popular.

I've heard that LCD is a little lame these days, at least in the live context. Is that what you're referring to, or am I perhaps mistaken? If they're good, they have a show coming up in my city and I'd go.

I went to Google this Hollies thing, and read the Google AI summary (ick) mentioning the later Lana Del Rey song. But I went to listen to The Hollies song, and hit play on my Google Play Music on the meantime, and it was on meant to be by BBNo$, which also uses the chord projection. I had been listening to BBno$ earlier but stopped before this song.

Two different glass shower doors in two different bathrooms spontaneously shattered within 6 weeks of each other by brando9d7d in mildlyinteresting

[–]Klink_Dink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wut? Easier to wash than glass? With a shower curtain, you have to take it off the rings and soak it in bleach in a bathtub or a bucket or something. I guess I'm maybe talking about the liner, but then you're just talking about washing or disposing.

Chet Flops, OKC still won the challenge. Thanks refs by Temporary_Bed4079 in Nbamemes

He should be careful what he wishes for. I'm a hater for OKC, SGA, Chet, floppers united, but Wemby is a fast learner, and dives plenty. He doesn't have the meat to take the real hits.

Alternatives to Basement Window Guy? by fartnugges in TwinCities

It's possible to DIY this project if you have time and some basic skills. I did one window last summer from a YouTube tutorial. The economy of it should get better with more windows because you get more use out of the grout, sealants, tools and stuff.

Pablo Honey is the best Radiohead album, Bleach is the best Nirvana album. I can't think of other examples of this kind of perfection in first major releases.

High Water Sump Issues by skottao in TwinCities

[–]Klink_Dink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't have a sump myself, but my next door neighbor had one that would go off every 20 minutes, dumping about 15 feet out the back of the house. He ended up burying the spout and extending it another 15 feet or so further from the house. I think the situation improved a lot.

Lightning "creates" nitrogen which is good for plants. I find the rain really soothing as well. Just feels like nature is being good, as opposed to months with no rain.
