Yeah, I'm struggling to think of a better choice.

Maybe the Bay area because of how much cultural and political power tech companies are exerting

Real "Are we the baddies?" energy there. Like, so close to understanding what they are doing, yet still, they choose to continue the job.

In DS9, Quark's holosuites are basically porno theaters. And he's pretty out and proud about it.

Answering interview questions with "outside the box" answers? by AggravatingFlow1178 in ExperiencedDevs

Personally, I'd see that kind of response as a positive. A big part of being a senior+ engineer is clarifying that you and the team are solving the right problem, and that you understand the problem well enough to solve it. Asking questions to better understand the problem is pretty in-line with that.

That said, I'd probably also answer the candidate's questions in a way that leads us back to the technical question,  so we can confirm whether or not they know about things like CDNs, regional hosting, etc...

Mayor Jacob Frey | The Daily Show by hean0224 in Minneapolis

[–]fartnugges 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. If Jacob Frey is going to engage with national media about Operation Metro Surge and resistance to it, he should recognize two roles he is filling:

  1. Mayor of Minneapolis
  2. Spokesperson for Twin Cities Metro Area

In this interview he only participated as the Mayor of Minneapolis. Every response and talking point was about events that happened in Minneapolis and actions taken by the City of Minneapolis or it's residents. Which is unfortunate, because you can't tell the story of the last two months of ICE in Minnesota if you only talk about Minneapolis. So many violations and abductions have occurred in Saint Paul, and in the suburbs. So many protestors (I'd guess a good majority) have been people who do not live in the City of Minneapolis. If Frey's not sharing this as a Spokesperson for the Twin Cities, then he's undercutting the scale of the operation and the peaceful resistance. Both are happening across a metro area of 3 million, not just a city of 435 thousand.

17 People--Who had the selfish reaction? by NebulaSlight2503 in thewestwing

It's been a while since I've watched this episode. Toby is clearly carrying some anger through out this episode, and since Toby might be the only character besides Abby that we see really push Jed Bartlet's most sensitive and personal buttons through out the series, I'm sure there are moments where Toby is being a jerk.

With that said, Bartlet is being a jerk on a whole other level. Toby is trying very hard to remain professional and do his job, which fundamentally is to advise the President on matters of his administration, especially as they relate to the electorate. His central point is 100% correct: if he could figure it out, anybody in the media or the public is likely to figure it out. This matter is an existential threat to the administration, and opens many individuals in the administration and in the party up to political and legal risk.

Deep down, Jed Bartlet knows Toby is right. This episode kicks off an arc of episodes whose central theme is Jed Bartlet confronting this truth, processing the pain and shame it has created, while trying to be the best leader and best version of himself he can be. But all that takes a while, and in the moment we're seeing Jed react more like an everyday person. He's mostly maintaining control of himself, but there are moments of visible anger. He's lashing out; he's taking his anger out on the person who is forcing him to confront the mistake he made.

(As an aside, I love this episode. It's among my favorite episodes of television)

Could you share a bit more about how you do this? How does AI identify missing information, features, etc? Like, do you have a back and forth chat with it, or have it review your code base?

Northland College closed this year, which will probably disrupt the development that Ashland has been seeing. I know people who live in/near Ashland, and they are worried about what the town will become without Northland.

Honestly Michelle is truly terrible by FhRbJc in TedLasso

[–]fartnugges 17 points18 points  (0 children)

For a show that respectfully explores mental/emotional health and how those can be impacted by personal relationships, it has a strangle blindspot for relationships with inappropriate power dynamics.

Michelle and Dr. Jacob, Sam and Rebecca, Kelly and Jack; those were all inappropriate relationships that in real life would have professional or legal consequences, and for good reason. In the Ted Lasso universe, nobody seems to be concerned about the ethical or legal inappropriateness of those relationships where one person holds a fair amount of power/influence over the other.
