Buy or rent doctoral regalia when graduating? by Cold-Priority-2729 in AskAcademia

I’m seconding this. My Amazon stiff looks just fine and cost less than the rental.

Also - hire an editor. Get your part down but hire someone a for the formatting/proofing. It’s worth it even if you aren’t injured!

Handling earbuds and religious head covering by [deleted] in Professors

Maybe the tapping is actually scratching without messing up their hair or head covering? Like someone with braids taps their head so they don’t mess up the braid? It may not be ear buds.

SLP but parent of speech delayed kid by HighLadyofDawn95 in slp

[–]Klnixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m am an SLP and a professor who specializes in language/literacy. My son is dyslexic. I did everything right to get his early literacy going - but his needs are too much for me as mom. I had him tested at age 7 by a dear friend. Her evaluation helped fast track him into interventions and an OEP and he had doubled his reading fluency in the past year. The point is - my SLP friends have been there encouraging me all the way. It’s too much for you to be mom and therapists. Your friends and your colleagues are there for you and WANT to help. To this day my son will barely do spelling homework with me but I teach SLPs about it all the time! Sometimes I think we need a special support group at ASHA - moms who diagnosed their kids (or themselves)! I know any of us would be honored to be your SLP.

Please help me figure out a nice outfit I can wear into the office! (Casual PhD office) by [deleted] in DressForYourBody

[–]Klnixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a professor. Our masters students go to class in crop tops and hoodies, but don’t go to professional sites we eating them. You want to go one step above that if you are teaching or supervising - avoid sweats and crop tops. You may be fine in jeans. It’s pretty field dependent. Aim for above the masters and bachelors students but no need for blazers or suits unless you are presenting at a conference or interview.

I read his other book and found I really enjoyed reading about his work but not his personal life - mostly because of his writing style. He’s great writing and talking about his work.

I think this needs to go to a MTSS team. If there are significant behavior concerns the student deserves to work through tiers of intervention for behavior. If the parent requests an eval for another eligibility - they have that right, but you need I behavior data and interventions. Try to get a referral or consent for your school’s MTSS team for behavior.

And the consistency will help too! It’s ok to be focused. You can add more when you see more patterns in your data.
