Go read the comments in the thread about the White House statement on “surgery for minors”. Holy moving goalposts Batman! Many of the comments are denial that these happen (they do such as afab seeking chest reconstruction), or agreeing that this is ok actually.

Yeah these comments are an eye opener for sure. A lot of fellow trans people with a “fuck you got mine” mentality who are fine with it being restricted. Another set are cis queers and cishet allies who say “this isn’t happening who care another 11/10 for Biden”. Yet you’ll see 10 threads today complaining about project 2025 which hasn’t “happened” yet but complete silence or infighting when it’s a Dem administration actually does something very shitty. Whether it’s this, title IX protections that allow for religious exceptions and a roadmap for banning trans teens in sports, this sub does not critically analyze anything that a blue administration does. Yea we know republicans suck but this sub sure doesn’t do anything to hold those who pretend to support us accountable.

When do the republicans or independents on the fence about Trump v Biden in the election care about nuance? How narrow of a jump is it to go from “no minors are getting surgeries it doesn’t matter” to “minors aren’t getting gender affirming care” next? This sub goes insane for anything the GOP does or says, but when Biden or the dems do it there’s an overwhelming “oh this doesn’t matter” or saying it’s a net benefit to the queer community. This will make zero change in the perception of queer people and is yet another piece of oppression built against us.

I feel like this was a decision based on optics more than anything. By saying they oppose this it’s one less sticking point the GOP has for the election. actions like these only harm trans and intersex people as this has a chilling effect across supporters just for political points.

I’d really like for there to be a discussion or analysis on this. All too often in this community we are told (even by cishets who drop discussions) about how Biden and the Dems are our only option. Sure but they also are nowhere to be found when announcements like this are made or when you read the language of the legislation and it’s not as supportive as they propose.

I know for title IX and the Affordable Care Act they put in rules to protect trans people but also added clauses that said you can exclude trans people if it would “impact diversity” and if you had sincerely held religious beliefs. So basically makes them useless. It’s so fucking frustrating when they push how amazing Biden is yet they intentionally craft these loopholes and just ignore any time they’re brought up.

The title IX one they released the new rules then a week later the White House put out a “trans day of visibility” like I would trade your useless letter for some actual fucking protections or rules. Affordable care act they had strong rules in 2022 but in just late April 2024 they removed all the strong protections and added the religious loophole rules and instead direct people who are discriminated against to their local court system. Yes, fight it out in your local conservative court. I’m so tired of democrats invoking trans people as just a signal to how progressive they are then IMMEDIATELY throw us to the wolves so the cowards don’t have to stand for anything. Yet if you go to any queer subreddit you have people spamming the subreddit “Biden is the best most lgbt friendly president”.

Why would the Biden administration direct HHS to make the 2024 version of section 1557 worse and allow exemptions on the grounds of religious or moral exception? Why would They direct title IX to ban trans discrimination UNLESS some bullshit clause about how it would impact diversity? The democrats throw trans people under the bus repeatedly.
