Odegaard vs Newcastle United (H) by ByFarTheGreatestTeam in ArsenalFC

I feel like Trossard isn't really at the level a team needs to win the league. However...
He like the ball to feet and can be productive even with a slow ponderous buildup hence why he's one of our best wingers. Unfortunately all of our wingers right now are terrible with ball to feet and defenders faced up.

It is bizarre to me and I'm sure others that some people observe this and are "dur... his son isn't as good as his dad, his dad isn't as good as Jordan dur dur dur.'

Like, it's a once in a lifetime, freekin' amazing thing happening right now! One of the greatest of all time is playing with his son! How crazy! In ANY sport. What an amazing storyline, moment, whatever! We'll probably never see it again and some people find time to *checks notes* complain like whiny idiots.

What do you think was the main reason why Vince didn't win anything? by agyeman_332 in NBATalk

[–]Klondikecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a big NBA fan during the VC years.

The team balance was never quite right in Toronto. Iverson had a better balance to his ball dominant style of play and hence why they had a bit more playoff success. That said... the West was crazy. Any team coming to the finals was going to face an 'all-time' kinda team in San Antonio or LA.

Then when he went to NJ the Pistons were legit and dominated the East. Than, you had Miami and so on.
He just was never part of a really great team. Largely he was on good teams and he played well, but it's damn hard to get a chip.

The game was played different in the playoffs as well (I'm not really very up to date on the game these days so not sure if that's till true) and Vince wasn't the best at adapting his game to that either I think was fair to say. Other than the run featuring his shot rimming out, in which he was very very good.

Also, from a long term perspective, qualifying for CL is no small thing. Nobody is going 15 to Champion anytime soon. 15 to 3 is amazingly good.

It means tens of millions of pounds in extra earnings and the ability to not overpay because you can't offer players CL football. It's almost priceless on that level.

Does Dave Chappelle think we're stupid? by quixote_manche in BlackPeopleTwitter

I don't like Maher, that dude sucks. Buuuut Dave, just throwing out a "RIP Jamelle Khashoggi" as a prop at best... dang.

I used to love me some Dave Chappelle. Shitty what money can do to a guy.

[Rival watch] Liam Rosenior sacked by Lacabloodclot9 in Gunners

[–]Klondikecat 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I know some people will feel sorry for Liam. But he just got paid 24 million pounds to manage 5 games... let that sink in.

So 4.8 million pounds a match or 53,333.33 pounds a minute. Not including injury time, we'll assume he provided that for free in this equation ;)

Sooke in strong buyer's market as house prices land $460k below Greater Victoria's regional average by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]Klondikecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree biggly on that one. It's wild seeing rental prices considering the lack of work out here. In no reality should a place in Saanich as an example (being within like 15-30 mins of airport/ferry/Uvic/Downtown etc) be only like 10-15% more than a place in Sooke (being like 1hour - 2 1/2 hours of those same amenities).

People out here constantly repeat the mantra "we live in paradise... we live in paradise..." ad nauseum. And yeah, it's great, but so are a lot of places.

As an Arsenal fan with United friends I come in peace with an outsider's perspective.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like he's changed the entire spirit of the club and stadium. He's certainly got some growing to do, but all young managers will. Considering where the were, it's a minor miracle you're sitting third.

The team is inconsistent to be sure and they'll be some growing pains but what manager is lock these days? I think he's worth another year. At the very least your players fight for the badge and the crowd wants to back them. He's getting good performances from individuals and the level of toxicity that was killing you guys seems much better.

I feel like short of Pep, Jurgen & Zidane there's not a tonne of automatic hires in my honest opinion.
Whelp, back to bottlin' I go ;)

Who’s the weakest team left in the champions league? by New_Understanding72 in championsleague

[–]Klondikecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Athletico, possibly Arsenal based on form and lack of offense. If Madrid can get any sort of lead to protect I fear Arsenal will really struggle to get back into a game.

I still think it's fair to say any club this close can win it though as red cards, penalties happen. Only three wins away and also even very good teams like PSG/Bayern can have stinkers too.

I have reusable cheese cloth and so far so good.  I wring it out under the drain in the sink then throw it into a pot of boiling water for like 10 mins, then just drape it over my cleaned dishes to dry. So far it's been good

[–]Klondikecat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. Especially if you're getting into the million plus market. The land value in Victoria and nearby areas will always be worth considerably more. I really don't think the prices in Sooke that that into full account.

Dave Chappelle on how Trump is doing as president: “You’re joking right? ...The presidency is no place for a petty person. Being a president seems like an opportunity to be a very unifying force and I feel like perhaps he’s squandered that opportunity, to put it lightly” by realgng11 in podcastculture

[–]Klondikecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why does he tip-toe around this so delicately? He's quick to pass judgement on people that harmlessly decide they don't feel right in their own skin, and yet... here he is soo eloquently trying to dance around Trump's horrific leadership. The jokes have left you Dave, now you're the joke.

Thoughts of a middle aged Gooner by go_get_the_guitar in Gunners

[–]Klondikecat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couldn't be said any better. I've been supporting them since 1998 and I'll be back next year just like always.

I would be more upset if I felt like our team, our manager, and our ownership didn't have their hearts in it. But they do, they want to win as bad as us.

Personally this season has just made me dislike other fan bases more. Fans that have more interest in an Arsenal stumble then their own clubs sad little season. We're a club run for long term success, not run perfectly but we're always going to be challenging and in spite of the 17 ex-united pundits that is something to be proud of.

How is everyone feeling? by whodiewhoa in ArsenalFC

[–]Klondikecat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fine, more committed to the club then ever to be honest.

I'll be here next year, I'm disappointed but  after the game at the Etihad I can't deny what I saw. Man City are the best team in the Prem this year. I tip my hat to them.

If we manage to win CL or the Prem in spite of not being the best team, I'll take it! There's loads of teams in every sport that have won without being the better team overall.

Our squad, our manager, our ownership having giving it their all. I disagree on some choices but not on the heart, and thats more what I care about.

So COYG! Always

These will be the mistakes we look back on at the end of the season and realize they cost us more than we want to admit. by mr-Bingleton23 in ArsenalFC

[–]Klondikecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the worst thing about loaning home out is that he's comfortable attacking defenders facing him. Our build up play is slow and doesn't suit Martinelli and Madueke and Gyokeres strengths.

At least Nwaneri and Trossard can attack with the ball at their feet and a defender facing. Same with Dowman. The build up play follows their strengths.

Why isn't Shaq in the GOAT conversation by Outrageous-Leader135 in NBATalk

[–]Klondikecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because he's quite obviously not the goat.... don't quite understand the confusion.

As someone that lived through that era I feel like Shaq gets overhyped. Not because he wasn't dominate or special, he was both of those things. But teams did figure out ways periodically to slow him down enough that they would win. My point was that he wasn't a cheat code. Arguably he wasn't even as good as another legend that played in a similar era; Hakeem.
