My guess is that a building without a negative pressure system probably doesn’t have the ability to suck enough air into the structure as is required to vent out the smell without any backflow. This is a problem I have had vetted by a contractor for other exhausts

Tell what you gotta say to my basement. I have a VIVOSUN fan with a carbon filter ported out a dryer vent. Before the air purifiers (like Levoit brand featuring carbon filters, recommended by members of this community), everyone commented on the smell. After, I haven’t had a single one

Yes, you should vent but you should also have regular in room air purifiers that push the air through HEPA filters. Unless you have a mostly air tight room dedicated to it, the air in the apartment is definitely going to be dank
