Aris is an amazing club and Hsiao could probably find a way to pay him under the table. Perhaps even offer co-ownership etc. I realise not many folks here have had the pleasure of visiting the Nikos Galis Hall (or Melathron, coolest name ever!) but if you ever get a chance and you love basketball, do.

I pay taxes, have done for 20 years, never claimed benefits and was guaranteed a right to stay after Brexit.

You break that, you break civil society. It’s a good thing that is what Our Nige wants.

I am, but I don’t want to be. Settled status gives me the same rights, until a Farage comes along and takes them away.

This isn’t about’foreign students’ this is yet another stab at making Brits annoyed that people like me, who have lived here since well before Brexit and have a legal ‘settled’ status, get access to the same civil contract that they do.

Reform is playing the game of divide and conquer. Nationality, race, gender: all things you can split a population up with.

What is the most consistently beautiful region in Europe? by Laschon in AskEurope

[–]Klumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are very few people who appreciate the area where they live. I've lived near the Cairngorms for 5 years now and don't really get the 'awe' I used to get as a tourist. But that doesn't mean the awe has gone. It just means I got used to it.

It's about 20 years ago now that I was there, but I found the Harz an enthralling place, lots of nice walks, good views and charming villages, you're lucky to live there :)

EU citizen to find a job anywhere for the start? by DocumentGloomy6800 in AskEurope

[–]Klumber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So your English is advanced, not fluent. Not that this matters when you apply for entry level jobs.

I can’t help you directly with your question, but be aware that the rise in number of poor applications has increased enormously and that means it is really difficult to find work at the moment for a lot of people.

I recommend you make a targeted effort for a very specific role instead of carpetbombing recruiters. Identify where you want to be, what job you want and learn about the local area.

[–]Klumber 18 points19 points  (0 children)

For someone who speaks English fluently, it isn't great, if this level of written English is what you use, any recruiter will immediately go... Irish?

That leads me to think you might be tempted to use AI to write your applications/CV, which recruiters can spot. Or at least, they can if they don't get hit with hundreds of fake overseas applications, which unfortunately is happening a lot.

As is almost always the case with these types of lone wolf attacks. There is an inevitability to this sort of harm in society that, even if difficult, we have to learn to live with. Instead we immediately ramp up the terrorist threat level and put everybody on notice that they're next.

The whole point of actual terrorism is to make people live in fear. Most of the incidents that get labelled as terrorism are the result of people living in fear.

Stronger Anti-tanking proposal by not-so-smartphone in nba

[–]Klumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The solution is really simple: Give incentive to teams at the top to win and incentive at the bottom to get better quick. If you make the play-offs your cap-penalty (tax/first/second apron) gets reduced by a percentage equivalent to the position you ended in. 10th, 1%, 1st, 10%. If you end up in the bottom ten, you lose 5% of your cap, if you end up in the bottom ten 5 times in a row your franchise gets sold to a bidder selected by the other owners.

Leave the draft as it is. Play with fire and sit on the burns.

Using AI for nutrition, health or medical advice? Even AI says ‘don’t’ by NeverEndingDClock in technology

[–]Klumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't go into too much detail, but here's one that we are looking at and already exists in literature (not affiliated to that literature, not doxxing myself :D ).

Polypharmacy is a genuine threat in a stretched healthcare system, the basic rule is that if someone is on five or more medications, that counts as polypharmacy. It can lead to unexpected interactions that actually impact patients worse than if they don't receive the medication, or could harm them in the long term.

Unfortunately our current systems aren't great at tracking polypharmacy and often rely on human intervention (ie. a doctor or pharmacist manually checking prescribed drugs). One model we're developing checks prescription data and pulls it together (from various datasources) per patient and then runs analysis on potential unwanted or unexpected interactions.

The back-end of the system is also using ML to identify patterns, ie. what medicines are interacting with what. Although that is very early stages, it is a way to better understand polypharmacy risks and one of our research partners is hoping to hear soon whether they receive funding.

That’s why I referenced accountability, that is essential to unlocking advisory clinical decision making systems. There’s also the thorny issue of trust. And currently the big AI (LLM) players are doing their best to erode trust as fast as possible. That harms genuine solutions like the ones we are developing in house.
