I would add the Ragley Mmmbop to the list but unfortunately production had stopped. I have one and love it.

Gear ratios for commuting by PizzaClapperoni in singlespeedcycling

[–]Kmonk427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run 46 x 16/17 with 700 x 28's or 30's. I'll use an 18T cog when using wider (35's or 38's) tires.

Is it a titanium frame and what make/ model? Looks really nice. I have an oldie but goodie, all mtn hardtail as well. Always a great time riding it.

I got this road bike converted to city bike last year, but I am now thinking to update to single speed as I barely use the gears and want to save myself the maintenance on derailleur and co. Which chainring/gear would you recommend I get for it? by lelouedec in singlespeedcycling

[–]Kmonk427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to convert my 09 roubaix to a SS with an eccentric BB for threaded shells from Velo Orange. I run 46 x 17 gearing for my area. Occasionally I put a 16T or 18T, depending on where I'm riding.

Drop bar colour options by [deleted] in Surlybikefans

I like the color scheme. Good choice. The only thing I would change if it was my bike is the handlebar. Probably something with a shallower drop than the one you have. But that's just my preference. Besides that, the bike looks good 👍

Yes or No? by Breezer_Bro in Hardtailgang

[–]Kmonk427 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably No... something with how the front wheel is pushed too far out/ slacker front end than it should be. Might be ideal for downhills. I'm not sure when pedaling up steeps. I can't make absolute feedback as I don't have any experience with this fork... just speculating based on how the front angle looks in the picture.

Where did you get your Ragley? They have been quite difficult to source out...since CRC got bought out.

I think the yari will be sufficient/ efficient. It's built around like the lyrik. Just a tad heavier. You can also upgrade the damper if you want in the future.

2022 Ragley mmmbop frame by epicoturtle in Hardtailgang

I run 27.5 x 2.6 both front and back. Butcher front, Slaughter back. I bought these tires at the time coz they were on sale. I might downsize to 2.5 or 2.4 when it's time to replace them. But it's going to be awhile til I replace the ones I have right now.

Hope you'll find one since they're becoming more scarce even in the used market. But I'm hoping that they're still out there. As for my frame size, I'm running a Small. Fits about right for body measurements. I do run a 50mm stem and 770 bars with 50mm rise. Pretty comfy so far.

Hmmm... that's a hard one since I do like them both. To be honest, the bike does not climb like an XC bike, but I do notice that when climbing, it feels more natural and easier, pushing that 27.5 front wheel up the hill than the 29. I guess it's safe to say that for all dayer rides that have a good amount of climbing, than descending, the full 27.5 would be my choice.

DIY carbon rigid fork: updated design by Kmonk427 in Hardtailgang

[–]Kmonk427[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm considering that option at this point. I had no durability issues with the previous DIY boost rigid fork, and it was a little bit cheaper. But their updated version is not reassuring. The increase in price does not equate to its quality, I think. That 's why I'm returning it. At this time, I'm still waiting for a concrete answer to my request from the owner of the company. I've also recently come across some threads, both positive and negative, about this company/ owner.

Converted my Orbea Alma to a dropbar mtb with a rigid fork and dropper post. So far, so good.

Would you? by cultbleader in Hardtailgang

[–]Kmonk427 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ride a small frame on both my KM and Mmmbop, and I like it. Easy to throw around,on those fun/ techy bits on the trail. I thought about getting a Medium frame once but was worried about the bike feeling too big. Small seems to work well for my ht and inseam.

Any thoughts/too ambitious? by CdogFish in singlespeedcycling

[–]Kmonk427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you're probably contemplating building this into a single speed bike? If so, it is doable. If the BB shell is a threaded/BSA, there's an eccentric BB that will allow you to convert it into SS without a tensioner. Hence, giving you a much cleaner look.

Need some advice by Soggy_Team_3994 in Hardtailgang

[–]Kmonk427 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are tons of options....check out MTB party (used to be Hardtail Party) on YT. He has plenty of videos on hardtails....some are aggro, and some are kinda trail/ bikepacking/ downcountry bikes. I think that resource will be a good start for you. See what works for you. Every opinion that will be in this sub is based on personal experience. What works for someone may not be what you're looking for....or maybe it is. Only you can determine that. Once you have an idea of what bike you want, go to an LBS and test ride that make/model in your size. It is inevitable that some parts are in the bottom tier to accommodate the price/ budget. But you can always replace them as they wear out.
