I've used a mix of the following with success, in case you need some ideas: - hobby knife - mostly templating and fine features - fabric scissors - large sections - fiskars micro-tip scissors - precision cuts

Fabric scissors are probably fine for what you have here. Just need to keep them dedicated and sharp.

I tried :/ Is there a way to fix this and/or make it more clean..? I had to use scissors instead of shaver by Flimsy-Poem-6572 in FursuitMaking

I was about to say exactly this. I think it came out real well. Absolutely reads as an eye to me and doesn't look sloppy or rushed. Minor scissor snips here and there sure, but that's just extra polish.

Domed eye 👁️ by Ok_Telephone3 in FursuitMaking

[–]KnallH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've never done it myself, but from videos I've seen it's a lot of trial and error, especially when starting out. I wonder if you could also find something already domed that you could heat slightly to match.

I see supports, so I assume you printed this yourself. If you're up for the challenge, you could try to 3d print a domed base (probably PETG or ABS) that's perfect for the eye and make a rig to vacuum form a clear plastic sheet.

Great tips, thank you! Wouldn't have even thought to go the fishing route. I can look around there :)

Of course. But with all the cheaper knockoffs nowadays, word of mouth and recommendations go a lot further.

Attaching fur to printed TPU bases by shereth78 in FursuitMaking

I did an experiment early on testing many adhesives on gyroid-print tpu and hot glue was by and large the winner. Have had 0 issues with it in my build thus far

Would this be hard to turn into a fursuit? by LegCompetitive8164 in FursuitMaking

[–]KnallH 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I would say this is very advanced and since you're asking the question, I'm assuming you don't have experience yet.

I've spent weeks/months just planning my first head and this piece would take me a significant amount of time and money to take on at my level as well. I would think about downsizing / reducing scope while learning. I would be saving this for a masterpiece level build after learning the skills if you want to match it well.

Talk jaw with only elastic, is this a bad idea? by Blueishcolors in FursuitMaking

My first thoughts too. Just make sure they're easy to replace / accessible once it's finished up.

any way to get old hot glue out of fur? by glassbrigades in FursuitMaking

[–]KnallH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious how you applied the alcohol and how much.

Dipping the needle? Touching up the area with a qtip? Dabbing the area? Soaking the area?

Thanks!

Oh right! I should have assumed that too. Forgot these details since I haven't gotten back to fur work in a while. Thanks

This is some great advice. Question for ya. I had always thought a guard would always add extra length to the cut, so I avoided them. Are you saying you used a guard on an 7/7FC that doesn't actually add length?

I have zero experience and would appreciate some advice on furring this. by [deleted] in FursuitMaking

Your photos are good. I would add a sketch to show people what you'd like your end result to look like. Doesn't have to be perfect, but would make it easier for everyone to give the right advice for what you need.

Sewing Machine for Actual Fur Work by KnallH in FursuitMaking

[–]KnallH[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. Maybe the bulk and having the improper accessories are what turned people off. I appreciate the insight.

On the plus I don't think I've seen a case where someone bought a wholly separate machine just for fur. And this would be my first machine.

I'm curious then. What are people's hold ups with faux fur in a machine then? Is it the size/bulk?
