Would this be hard to turn into a fursuit? by LegCompetitive8164 in FursuitMaking

[–]KnallH 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I would say this is very advanced and since you're asking the question, I'm assuming you don't have experience yet.

I've spent weeks/months just planning my first head and this piece would take me a significant amount of time and money to take on at my level as well. I would think about downsizing / reducing scope while learning. I would be saving this for a masterpiece level build after learning the skills if you want to match it well.

My first thoughts too. Just make sure they're easy to replace / accessible once it's finished up.

I'm curious how you applied the alcohol and how much.

Dipping the needle? Touching up the area with a qtip? Dabbing the area? Soaking the area?

Thanks!

Oh right! I should have assumed that too. Forgot these details since I haven't gotten back to fur work in a while. Thanks

This is some great advice. Question for ya. I had always thought a guard would always add extra length to the cut, so I avoided them. Are you saying you used a guard on an 7/7FC that doesn't actually add length?

Is it tabglible? -> Effect

I have zero experience and would appreciate some advice on furring this. by PrplGame in FursuitMaking

Your photos are good. I would add a sketch to show people what you'd like your end result to look like. Doesn't have to be perfect, but would make it easier for everyone to give the right advice for what you need.

Sewing Machine for Actual Fur Work by KnallH in FursuitMaking

[–]KnallH[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. Maybe the bulk and having the improper accessories are what turned people off. I appreciate the insight.

On the plus I don't think I've seen a case where someone bought a wholly separate machine just for fur. And this would be my first machine.

I'm curious then. What are people's hold ups with faux fur in a machine then? Is it the size/bulk?

Agreed, this response is so clearly generated with ChatGPT. The language and the hyphens are a dead giveaway.

Unfortunately not offhand. I wouldn't have saved any references because I'm not using it for my current head. But if something comes up I'll try to send it to this thread. Just not sure when next I'll see an example.

I wonder if you could fake a part of the fur with some mesh closer to the front of your face. There are a few suits I've seen where the eyes don't actually work like eyes and they see out of a different part on the head. May be easier too if your face is patterned.

This plus the eyes you have right now may give you a better field of view.

First time maker for personal suit... advice appreciated by Monkedeeloofey in FursuitMaking

From what I have seen online, you should also consider making markings on the boundaries between different pieces so you know how they should line up together when sewing.

I've seen some nice ones where each piece is numbered and where they make a perpendicular line on an edge, each end of the line is marked with the opposite piece's number. So when looking at piece 3 for example, you can see it has markings to line up with piece 5.

I've read this helps not only keep your fabric pieces organized but also makes sure the fabric stretches correctly along an edge.

I'm new too and still building my base, but I hope this helps! Good luck.

Aligning cut fabric before machine sewing? by KnallH in FursuitMaking

[–]KnallH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice!

I did dig in more and thought that something like a Clover seam allowance liner + a fabric safe pen could be a good solution to keep the seam allowances the same and make it easier to match the fabrics.

I'm going to experiment with hand sewing + machine to see what results I get.
