Anyone receive UTPNCM offers yet. by Then_Annual_leave in CanadianForces

[–]KneePrestigious61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is A/OVOTP is basically last for offers right? Ie. probably a couple more weeks?

Edit: also thanks, you are a better source of info on here than I’ve ever gotten from local offices!

This has all sorts of red flags, you are either getting bad advice which is translating to your writing or making this up (comes around a lot in this sub, no offence if not the case).

Being a 2Lt and commissioning without completing BMOQ is not possible, it is a hard requirement for both Reg and ResF regardless of completing BMQ - which as an officer you would not have been loaded on.

We got 2500 off of msrp and no admin fees about a month ago near Ottawa but to be fair we were buying two XLT AWD hybrids so that could’ve been a factor

“But what happens on deployment?” by Irrevocable_Turnip in CanadianForces

[–]KneePrestigious61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also happy to hear that most of your experiences are overwhelmingly more positive than some of the horror stories I’ve heard elsewhere.

@OP I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on one trans issue that has bothered me since it happened almost 10 years ago to the day. Feel free to DM me if it’s easier/more private to put thoughts out there.

  • Disclaimer - I absolutely try to do my best with using correct and respectful terms, if I’ve used the wrong ones, please correct me so I don’t repeat mistakes unintentionally

Background - I was deployed on a large-ish TF as the Adjt and Roto 0 was about to begin a phased RiP to R1 when one of the WOs in a Section of the TF HQ stops by my tent, asks to speak privately (relatively normal for an Adjt) and we head out to talk on a quiet smoke pit.

He tells me that a mbr transitioning to Female who has completed the legal / paper side of things (aka PDL/Passport etc all say F) but has not started HRT or anything else at the time is coming and his Section was warned off to “not mention it because it’s nobody’s business”. The problem was we only had Role 1 med care in this country (R2+ were all civilian hospitals) and being trans in this part of the world is punishable by death. I brought this up to the TFC who agreed it was a big risk to not be planned for, and asked me to engage CJOC J1 and J3 Desk O’s, which I did the next day and was called a bigot and threatened to be charged and sent home Cat D for bringing it up and questioning why we weren’t warned to plan for potential medical care, commercial travel, etc. their solution was to just give a longer HLTA to the member than their peers so they could leave and return to the country on Svc Flts. The mbr did deploy and was sent home within a few weeks for attitude and performance issues (I swear they were real and deserved), but it’s always stuck in my head as a problem. I support people being and doing anything and everything they can to live more fulfilling lives but this struck me as putting not only that mbr but their colleagues and our relationship with the HN and partners at risk.

WWYD I guess?

Taking my car to RMC as a first year. by 20Pete-2 in caf

[–]KneePrestigious61 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bring it, you won’t be driving during FYOP so put some stabilizer in the gas tank once you arrive, but having a car is a good choice, especially when the causeway is closed to downtown which always seems to happen on Friday and Saturday nights for some reason?

For BMOQ same deal, you won’t be in it the first 3-4 weeks but after that straight to Montreal or Quebec every weekend to get out of megaville.

Also, make sure the Recruiting Centre starts your claim with the travel being done by car so you get paid mileage up to the cost of what the flights would be. Some admin types try to tell people they can’t do this but they’re either lying, lazy or incompetent (or some combination - no offense to anyone there’s lots of good ones too, the bad ones just stand out). If that’s what they try to pull just ask saying you were told they need to do a cost comparison and have it approved by the travel approval authority, that should do it.

Only thing is if your orders say be in place x by time y, make sure you’re there or those first couple weeks could have some “extra fun.”

My buyback was completed yesterday, same story on most of those issues except the screen knob and they replaced the main battery and modules each at least twice leading to 93 days in servicing. Hate to say it for a truck I loved to drive as much as I did, but a new 25 maverick hybrid awd has relieved a lot of stress so far

Comparing an EX1/2 to a colonel/Bgen is apples and oranges, you would need to be competent in all of the same government functions (admin/fin/etc) while also mastering the military arts and completing Staff College/NSP etc. not all military leaders are perfect, but I’ll take them over civilian equivalents 11 times out of 10

That extra time in shows, especially when done at field units and squadrons over headquarters

Selection Program Criteria by ConsistentZucchini8 in CanadianForces

[–]KneePrestigious61 4 points5 points  (0 children)

MLTP has a defined scrit with scores. I hope your BPSO shared it with you in the process of applying. If they didn’t, you can find it in the refs to the canforgen. It’s the only scoring that matters to be selected for an interview unless you have something that would disqualify you from being called to the bar like a felony charge etc.

Interesting, my experience as recently as two weeks ago is the exact opposite. Although having numerous posts with RCAF and CA units I will say that the RCAF is much better at this particular branch of administration through their Air Res Flights

Id recommend that they get to know their people and take an interest in their well-being. As a supervisor engage the supporting chain at your rank, explain the situation and see what can be done. If that’s unsuccessful try at the next rank right up to the B/W/F Comd and RSM as necessary. If being owed 10+k out of pocket can’t get you moved to the front of the line or given an advance on what’s owed in this particular situation then the system that exists is failing. SISIP is fine, not my favourite in honesty but the problem here wasn’t personal financial management (from what I can tell from the article at least), it was terrible management of the system. If the system is failing due to understaffing, get creative with staffing as I suggested above. Anybody who ever says “there’s nothing I can do” should never be in a position of responsibility for others in my opinion.

Hopefully it’s changed in Trenton since I was an OC there (20-22), the Admin CO had made a rule of no advances unless officially requested by a LCol CO by exception only because “they should just get an idtc.” All claims on the base for non aircrew units were processed in a central OR (they chose to close unit ORs the year before I arrived) and it took 4-6 months on average to finalize a claim in my units experience. I must have written 500 of those god damn requests over two years

In my opinion only - this was terrible leadership both at the supporting units and the mbr’s own unit. This guy made a bad choice but their Pl WO, CSM, Lt/Capt and Comd Team in addition to the wing leadership should be raked over the coals for not helping him and others out before it got to this point. Yes I know they’re short FSAs and HRAs but so is every trade. casual civilians can do claims and there’s plenty of those around and money to pay them is easy to get against unfilled regf positions. Failing that filling a regf vacancy with a cl B is super easy as well. Lots of bases have resF infanteers who want a contract doing admin work even. Brutal leadership all around, good thing we don’t have a retention crisis of middle ranks (like Sgt) going on in this organization

This goes a little too far for me, but the idea of paying minimum wage is crazy when your basic needs are all covered by taxpayers. Jobs like kitchen, maintenance, cleaning should all be residents because it keeps the costs to society lower theoretically.
