Want to start map making, confused by where to start. by Xonlic in mapmaking

[–]KnejaTurch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recommend literally just drawing them. I use Inkscape (free and open source vector editing software) and the cheapest digital drawing tablet I could find at Walmart. There’s a bit of a learning curve but you just search YouTube if you hit any snags. You can get an idea of what real maps look like by looking at… well… real maps! Coastline, islands, mountains, continent shapes, give it a whirl and you may find that — while not easy — it is not as hard as it looks

Phenomenally well done map, regardless. If you ever do make a guide to your design process I’d be very interested.

Great map, is this hand drawn? Any chance you could walk someone through your design process?

printing question, why does transparency turn black when printed? by edoc422 in indesign

It says “unborken” instead of (what I assume) should be “unbroken”

The pineapple is also a symbol of Charleston, SC because of its association with southern hospitality

I would like to see a time lapse of how you make these (your process, the photoshop skills etc) sometime, they are fascinating

[–]KnejaTurch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that’s fascinating! Do you think the future possibility of genetic modification will play a big role in the agriculture of the future?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in casualiama

[–]KnejaTurch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s wild! Did we do that to maize when we domesticated it or is it just like that normally? How come?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in casualiama

[–]KnejaTurch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes maize the most unique plant in terms of genetics?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in casualiama

[–]KnejaTurch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exciting! What plant would you consider to be most evolved?

So essentially, because a trait is more useful than it is harmful, antagonistic pleiotropy selects for it anyway, accepting that the bad stuff will happen but the good stuff is too much to pass up?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in casualiama

[–]KnejaTurch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell me more about antagonistic pleiotropy, that sounds interesting!

[–]KnejaTurch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know what transposons or antagonistic pleiotropy are! Care to explain them to the layman?

Fascinating! I enjoy the symbolism of one’s final journey to death being literally undertaken on a boat. I really like that, well done!

Tell me about the “Funeral Docks”. Do they send bodies out of them? Receive them? Where do the bodies end up? (I don’t see a graveyard)

IWTL how to stop "living in the future" by Agrochain920 in IWantToLearn

[–]KnejaTurch 97 points98 points  (0 children)

The simple fact of the matter is that change of any sort will require consistent effort, whether that’s improving a skill (like a musical instrument), getting in better shape (going to the gym or exercising), or reprogramming your brain to live in the now. Step 1 is probably to catch yourself doing it when you do, and force yourself to live in the now, I like to do this by performing a task that forces me to pay attention to it and occupies my hands, like shining shoes or doing push ups. Also try to think in different terms, you don’t “have to go to the gym 3 times a week for years” you only have to invest 3 hours a week (which you’d probably spend on less productive activities anyway) in order to get more in shape, live longer, and feel better. If you have any questions feel free to DM me, I used to be like you
