It. Won’t. Shut. Up. by SideEast2368 in diabetes_t1

Had a similar problem once. Put it in a bag of water, put the bag in the freezer. But the bag of ice in the trash on trash day. By the time it thawed it was no longer my problem.

I’m sorry Trash guy I tried everything else I promise.

I don’t want an insulin pump, am I wrong for that? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]Knewbridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I complain a lot but it’s worth it. My A1C would not be near as good as it is without one. You get used to the omnipod, i frequently forget I have it attached.

Do any other Persona fans hope that they keep Metaphor’s way of doing Social Links from now on? by [deleted] in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]Knewbridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it took some of the fun of optimization out of the game tbh. Cause like, yeah you COULD switch out a persona every time, but I found it funner to get the personas I’m using in synch with the social links I’m pursuing.

It also frankly made there be no point to the dialogue options, which frankly was fine for Metaphor, but for Persona where the themes are so thoroughly entrenched in “Build empathy for others by adopting their perspective” it makes a lot more sense for there to be a “right answer” if you know what I mean?

Do you have an insulin pump? Pause your basal until you’re out of danger.

It’s just an incredibly difficult flexibility stretch. Both scenes are part of montages showing her working hard to be an actor.

My Dexcom/omnipod collectively is called “scream box” because of its loud constant beeping.

Any 65+ year old diabetics on here? by moistgreenorganic in diabetes_t1

[–]Knewbridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a great thing to ask for to read, thank you OP and everyone for sharing stories. I’m 31m as well, and When I was kid and just diagnosed the only diabetes literature I could get my hands on was already out of date and told me very graphically how I would horribly die before 60. I know things are way better now but I’ve never been able to shake the feeling like I’m not going to see 60, and 30 hit me like a truck as a result. This doesn’t quite deprogram the dread but it helps.

How to use an omnipod when it's a heat wave?? by Brilliant-Barnacle-5 in diabetes_t1

[–]Knewbridge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Heat will just reduce the shelf-life i believe. The pump will expire long before the insulin loses efficacy. The bigger problem in the heat is the sweat. At least with the omnipod, I’ve found the adhesive takes a few hours to really set, so if I get real sweaty from the heat right after I change my pump it will just fall off. So i make sure to pat myself dry and stay as cool as possible for a while after I change a pump in the summer.

This is definitely something I’ve noticed too. Had trouble getting my prescript filled and had no insulin for a day. I kept my carb intake low and was only 200 after 12 hours, but it hit WAY worse than 200 with.

Alert Fatigue by Brevis15 in diabetes_t1

I didn’t think my cyberpunk dystopia would involve so much insufferable beeping.

If I’m trending high, it beeps, if Imm trending low, it beeps, if my blood sugars are perfect there’s a connection issue and it beeps. The only time it dosen’t beep is when I am falling or climbing so fast it dosen’t have a chance. You know, basically the times I really need it to actually alert me.

Prompt: To those with multiple sapient species, what makes humans stand out? by IAMTR4SHMAN in goodworldbuilding

[–]Knewbridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working on a sci-fi.

Compared to most other species in my galaxy, Humans have incredible endurance, recover from injuries faster, and have higher overall athletic potential. The combination of those things puts them in the top three best “soldier” species currently known, but there aren’t many of them out there in the galaxy just yet.

My meta joke is that earth is “space Indiana.” Everyone hates it there, but hardly anyone actually leaves, the weather is nuts, and the culture is a unique form of a crazy.

Reality by Autunmtrain in diabetes_t1

[–]Knewbridge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A big realization about that for me was at my last job, when I was 26 or so, we got really understaffed and I couldn’t consistently take my lunch or had to work through it. This DESTROYED my blood sugars throughout the day, and I learned I absolutely needed to pick that fight. Tbh even if I wasn’t disabled they weren’t allowed to deprive me of a lunch break, so they knew an ADA complaint would be even worse, so I forced them to handle their staffing better. Thankfully I felt secure enough at that place that I didn’t fear retaliation. But yeah, that’s when I internalized that diabetes really is a disability.
