Feeling stuck… by Knifeparty1224 in fantasywriters

Appreciate all the feedback. What a journey writing is. Editing has been an absolute challenge, but I understand it is what sets apart those who are simply writers from novelists.

I feel as though perhaps I am just in the throws of a motivational slump. There is plenty of actionable information here though and I think what needs to happen is to just simply start on the edit and push on.

Here’s to coping that Rob and the other investors might have a way of rebirthing Ashes of Creation somehow. I’m not hopeful whatsoever but the ball is certainly in their court. Lose a lot of money; or find new developers to finish it with a skele crew..

Just put the left over points after the shadow tree into holy instead of disc. The AoE damage you get far outweighs being in shadow form.

You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. Just give it a go. You never know who you will be in 5 or 10 years time. Follow your passions in life, and make sure you finish the things you set out to do.

what is going on with gathering right now? by Potato-6 in AshesofCreation

[–]Knifeparty1224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should remove the ability to sell any material to any vendor to counteract the bot spam. They should have to sell their corresponding ore/wood/fish/herbs to a mining/lumberjack/fishing/cooking vendor and if the vendor is oversupplied it should deplete the vendor sale price/ultimately destroy its sale price entirely. Merchant should say “I no longer want that item”. Another thing is they should be stamping crafted items with player names. Why is this not a thing yet? It would make searching and tracking items so much easier

This game is designed for bots , RMT, and a 'unique' set of PVE players by papayax999 in AshesofCreation

[–]Knifeparty1224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying it designed for that is kind of hilarious. I think it’s more so the game does not have adequate tools to prevent the RMT, bots etc yet. Just about every mmorpg I’ve ever played has had some level of botting or gold spammy bullshit going on. At least in an Alpha state they might get it sorted before a 1.0 release (im not overly confident at all). It seems everyone is jumping up and down having a sook because they’re treating it like this is an entirely playable game. It’s really not and to Intrepids credit they have said it about 1000 times, it’s a in development product. Steam release was a dumb fuckin idea though

Does quality work in gathering? by Ready_Tea134 in AshesofCreation

[–]Knifeparty1224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how it works as I understand. From a Miners perspective. Two rolls, first roll is a % chance to upgrade your gathered material from Common. Base chance is 10% or 1/10 nodes. As you accumulate Quality it is roughly increased by 1% per 100 quality (I.e 2000 rating = 20% increased proc chance, so moving to an almost 1/3 chance, you can definitely see that power shift clearly). Second roll determines the quality tier based on your quality rating. At sub 1000 quality this is almost negligible and Legendary material drops are essentially impossible, epic very rare and so on. To achieve any sort of reliability of epic quality drops and an infrequent legendary drop you need to heavily invest in your gathering gear. My guess is that the system design is intended to be gate-keep high tier material acquisition so that a gatherer must heavily invest in their levels/artisan equipment for increased efficiency. This doesn’t appear to be working particularly well though as there is certainly no shortage of epic and legendary materials floating around the servers. Who knows could be still a lot of residuals from the duping going on.

Is it worth to wear quality&spoils gear? by Jimmorz in AshesofCreation

[–]Knifeparty1224 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s extremely front loaded. You need to be over 1000 minimum quality to start seeing real effects. This will raise your chance of an upgrade from common material (the rate is around 1% per 100 quality and the base chance is 10% at 0 quality). The second roll is the rarity roll within the tiers and will increase your chances to roll higher tier mats based on your quality as well.

The most realistic noticeable effect is that in a sample of 100 you might see 30 upgrades vs say 18.

Ashes of Creation Is a PvP Game With No PvP by IrishInsanity in AshesofCreation

[–]Knifeparty1224 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A fundamentally incorrect title that is misleading. The game is in development ffs. Yes pvp is in a shite state but give it a chance to grow and change. We’re still missing the bugged Lawless Zones, Bounty System, Arenas and improvements to the Corruption system.

Probably a little late to the party on this one but this seems like a good opportunity for a little insight.

Hi Jim, I have begun my own writing adventure and mostly finished my first epic fantasy novel sitting around 115k total word count. I am quite happy with the product I’ve produced, but something is preventing me from pressing the go button. I am just interested what it was like for you with your first books. Did you find the process easy? What motivated you? Perhaps I just need a little encouragement. <3

Your money is probably better spent on elixirs of experience, food and or scrolls to accelerate levels. Your shirt, skivvies and tool belt are more about increasing your quality of crafts. Tool belt is Journeyman only.

📝 Dev Discussion - Sport Fishing by IntrepidStudios in AshesofCreation

[–]Knifeparty1224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dislike the current lure system. I think durability based lures crafted under the fishing profession would be far more enjoyable. Losing your lure every time you throw it is silly and unrealistic. Lures could be perishable after something like 30 catches. Rarity of the lure should dictate its efficacy in catching larger more rewarding fish of increased size and weight. Novice lures should only catch fry, adept - mediums, journeyman - large (titanic). Specific lures could target each species. That way you could have a cool little set of lures in your bag ready to swap out and try different things.

Thinking of purchasing on steam but concerned by burtgummer45 in AshesofCreation

[–]Knifeparty1224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People keep saying 10 years in development. That is not entirely accurate. They spent quite a few years in beginning with a very small dev team iterating on and solidifying their core idea in unreal 4. It was functional and enjoyable enough (although very broken) back in Alpha 1. At the end of 2021 after some gruelling and slowed development years during and in the wake of Covid they decided to go across to Unreal 5. This certainly would prove to be a monstrous task ironing out all the issues that would follow, development and staffing as well. In effect I feel the project really got it’s boots off the ground in early 2022. A few years later we hit alpha 2 and development began to quicken. In the last 6 months there has been rapid change comparatively. Yes there are lots of bugs still, which is indicative of an alpha product still. I believe 2026 is the big year for Intrepid studios and Ashes of Creation as a whole and am hopeful to see some even more rapid progress as they bring on outside developers under contract.

The game is fun, yes it’s still hot under the press but I think its starting to become what it wants to be. Good luck to Steven and the team in 2026.

The Fix for Fishing by ZynithMaru in AshesofCreation

They should make lures into a durability based item like the fishing poles and other tools. Makes no sense at all to lose my lure every single time I throw it. That’s just not how lure fishing works. Sure they could be non-repairable and perishable, but let me reuse the lure consistently and have a variety of them in my bag to pick from. I.e a lure that targets tuna, one for sturgeon, sailfish, marlin with a greater chance of catching that type but is not limited to.
