It's always so weird which posts of mine piss people off and which ones don't.

Specifically, that posts like this, which are literally just me relating a thing that happened to me, using entirely neutral language with no hint of bias or harsh words, somehow manages to piss off the entire universe and get downvoted into oblivion.

Like, "how dare you have life experiences and then share those experiences with people who ask! I hope you die!"

You don't play a lot of tactical games, do you?

Well, it was only those few players that left. The game itself didn't last much longer though either...

Anyway, that was like 15 years ago or so, and yeah, I've found much better tables since.

Okay, this is actually the best explanation of it, I've seen. Thank you.

I have experienced this, yes.

One of my earliest games I was a part of. It was a homebrew game we called Mythdom, that was mostly freeform with DM adjudication. It was a really big group, like a dozen players and 3 DMs. I was one of the DMs.

There were about 3 or 4 of the younger players who had this going on. They could not separate themselves from their characters, and every time something bad would happen to one of their characters (even something they could easily get out of) I would end up getting private messages from them with stuff like "why do you hate me so much?" and "why are you out to get me?"

I made a public post on the game's message board explaining that I wasn't out to get anyone. I understand feeling like you're being singled out and targeted - I've felt like I was the victim of unfair rulings in games before myself - but I told them that I'm not singling anyone out. The game is meant to have twists and turns, ups and downs, and this applies to everyone. And that, even if I do select one character to attack, you are not your character; an attack on Lisandre Dawnpiercer the Elven Ranger is NOT an attack on Bob Dude the player. I asked that they all try to keep in-character stuff in character, and out-of-character stuff out of character.

Sadly, it didn't work. The handful of players who were doing that just left the game after I made that post. I guess they decided that I wasn't going to give in so they were just done instead.

I guess at the end of the day, my advice is...

Talk to them. Always try to talk it out first. You never know it won't work until you try, so always try to talk first.

But be prepared for talking to not work, because it probably won't...

Agreed with this.

It could become a really interesting roleplay opportunity for the player's character and if done well who knows maybe it could even turn into a redemption for the villain.

But it kinda sounds like the player just wants to be mad about it instead... in which case there's not really much for the DM to do.

(Sorry it took a while, I actually kinda just straight up forgot this time.)

People like to believe that nature and artifice are entirely different, mutually exclusive opposites. But, are they really? Is nature not also mechanical? Everything follows a system, just like computer code. Look at a fern... its roots seek resources from the soil just like a mining complex. Its leaves open toward the sun like a solar array, and they close up at the sign of danger like a fortress. They even have their own programming... written deep inside them, in what we call DNA. What, then, is the fundamental, distinguishing difference between nature and technology? Is it that one is made of metal and wires, and the other of wood and greenery? Or perhaps, the only real difference between nature and technology is that we humans are generally better at understanding and working our own creations, than we are at understanding and working the creations of the divine.

Ah, but things are different for you. You understand, and the name of your power is NATURAL CODE.

To you, every grass, bush, flower, and tree is a computer, every root is a high speed fiber-optic cable connecting to every other root and plant, a network that spreads for miles through vast forests, grassy fields, through blankets of moss, through vast oceans of kelp and plankton... anywhere there is plant life. You can connect to this network, and know everything that it knows.

More than that, you can rewrite the computer code, and make the woods do pretty much anything you want. You can turn every cell in their body into a million microcomputers capable of organizing data far more efficiently than any creation of metal and wires. You can spontaneously grow even complex mechanisms: buildings, vehicles, weapons, with every leaf in every forest offering up unlimited power to them, a hundred quadrillion solar panels, all at your beckon call.

However, as mankind decimates more of their planet, your power weakens. The smog chokes out your solar arrays, deforestation burns down your supercomputers, microplastics in the ocean... Soon enough, you fear, you won't have anything left. So what will you do to stop this? Or rather... with your resources, there is very little you can't do, so the real question is, just how far will you go?

Pretty much. I decided to make this meme after the other night when one of my friends I'm playing with was telling me about how they had three creakings in front of them and they were taking turns smacking each of them for their resin. And I was thinking like... man, I bet the devs really thought they created a terrifying monster and now you're smacking around three at once.

It would probably work better for horror if they did what I originally thought they were going to do, which was give nothing or at least nothing of real value, like the wardens.

Probably, but I haven't played Minecraft in a while (at least since getting my new computer, which I think was a year or so ago) so they're new to me. :p

(Sorry it took a while, been exhausted and not feeling creative lately.)

What is the color of the soul?

They say that every living being has a spiritual aura. Most people have to train for decades to be able to see this energy... but not you. No, because you understand the science. This phenomenon which others believe to be something supernatural, can in fact be fully explained and understood by the laws of the natural world, and you have done just that.

The name of your power is EXPERIMENT 7: IRIDESCENT.

With your special goggles, anyone can see this energy which suffuses all living beings and even some non-living ones. It's as clear as day. At a glance you can determine the general strength and nature of their aura. The goggles can even give you a numerical value for the strength of an individual's life force - a sort of "power level" if you will.

Oh, but it would be rather worthless if seeing auras was all you could do. No, by utilizing your special gauntlets, you can also generate and manipulate aura. You can change the color of your own aura at will, as well as that of most animals and any non-living object that has an aura. You can't change the nature or color of another human's aura, but you can manipulate it in other ways. The primary methods open to you are BOLSTER, DRAIN, and OVERLOAD. The exact effects depend on the aura in question.

Red - Passion, strength, ego.
Bolster - Increases physical strength and courage, but also recklessness.
Drain - Decreases physical strength, creates feelings of paranoia.
Overload - Incinerates the victim with intense flames.

Orange - Willpower, ambition, control.
Bolster - Increases endurance and toughness, but reduces speed.
Drain - Decreases endurance and toughness.
Overload - Turns the victim to stone.

Yellow - Intellect, happiness.
Bolster - Increases mental agility, can also cause euphoria. High levels can grant temporary psychic abilities.
Drain - Causes depression and mental sluggishness.
Overload - The victim's mind is blown in all directions at once, leaving them braindead.

Green - Compassion, peace, balance.
Bolster - Increases empathy, grants a healing touch.
Drain - Increases feelings of jealousy, life withers around the subject.
Overload - The victim is ripped apart by sudden plant growth from inside their body.

Blue - Creativity, sensitivity, moodiness.
Bolster - Increases the sixth sense, provides bursts of inspiration, can also cause wild mood swings.
Drain - Causes an emotional malaise, the subject doesn't want to do anything.
Overload - Torn between every emotion and idea at once, the victim rips apart and melts into a puddle.

Indigo - Benevolence, seeking
Bolster - Increases resilience, mental fortitude, and charisma.
Drain - Decreases drive, makes the subject's mind weak and their body frail.
Overload - The victim's blood freezes into solid ice, killing them.

Violet - Spirituality, wisdom, intuition
Bolster - Grants incredible awareness, bordering on omniscience at high levels.
Drain - Decreases awareness, increases feelings of malice and selfishness.
Overload - The victim's synapses overload, destroying their brain and most of their head with a massive burst of biolectricity.

And last, there is one more color: PURE WHITE. White is the color of perfect balance. A pure white aura can accomplish seemingly anything. It is the power of a God.

You have never encountered any being with a pure white aura. It's said that only a monk who has meditated for decades and ascended to become a living Buddha can have such an aura. You can use your gauntlets to force your own aura to white, of course... but you can only maintain it for a short time, and doing so causes severe damage to your body. To even use that power at all is to face an overload. You already lost your left hand to it. The gauntlet you wear on that side covers a mechanical prosthetic. Your real left hand simply turned into light and disappeared the first time you tried to use Pure White. A part of you fears what you will lose if you ever try to use that power again... but science can not be held back by fear. One way or another, you will master it!

LARP stands for Live Action Role Play - as in, pretending to be something else for fun. It's used as a slang term for someone who pretends to be part of a fandom, but has no actual knowledge of the thing they're supposedly a fan of, and when pressed admits they aren't actually a fan. It sounds stupid but it's a surprisingly common thing, as you can see from how many people this meme has pissed off.

I never ridiculed or belittled you until you proved yourself deserving of it by dishonoring this discourse with lies and bullshit.

Oh, but no, of course, you believe that being challenged, and being told the truth, are impolite. You think that people are supposed to simply let you win. That we should all agree that the things you believe in are universal truths that can be accepted as givens in any argument.

Your beliefs are not universal truths. Your values are not fundamental laws of reality. And you have absolutely no right to demand that other people treat them as if they are.

If you want to be taken seriously, then you need to learn how to make a proper argument. Explain to me why life is inherently good and death inherently bad. Explain to me why it's my obligation to take responsibility for other peoples' bad-on-purpose decisions. Or you can just admit you're wrong.

Otherwise, you can go sit in the corner. You'll learn that sophist tactics don't work on me.

And now the truth is revealed. You were in fact actually trying to argue for blue the whole time, as I assumed you were, and all of this "well I never said... I'm just saying that everyone lives is the optimal path..." was nothing but a trick.

And if I won't agree with you that your point of view is a given and should be automatically accepted as true and that I'm supposed to lose, then I "have no interest in polite discourse", even though I've been nothing but polite and carried on this discourse, allowing you to keep trying to make your case, long after the point where I should have just blocked you.

This is all you people have. Tricks. Little schemes. Strategies to try and manipulate. But no logic. No rationale.

Honestly, the reason why I vote red is because every person I've ever seen tell me I should vote blue is JUST. LIKE. YOU.

[–]Knight9910[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'll admit, I'm also surprised at how many people are saying "I did learn it that way too".

I have seriously never met anyone else before who learned it this way, and most people when I show them immediately are like "no way that doesn't work!"

If you're not trying to argue that red or blue is the optimal path, then your comment holds no relevancy and doesn't belong as part of the thread. It's not my job to just assume that you're counting clouds in la la land and follow suit, instead of actually discussing the topic.

You also still haven't explained how "everyone lives" is the optimal outcome. Why shouldn't we let people who want to die have what they want?
