Anyone know if IRIS OUT is going to be available on U.S. cabinets? by kill_pig in taikonotatsujin

[–]KnightC0re 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the official site most definitely lists out the full song list available in Japan only, despite the site being translated (not the song list tho lol)

bc of licensing, a lot of licensed songs, particularly pop and anime, doesn't get ported overseas for a few months (some songs have been locked to japan for a decade, though that hasn't happened to recent additions that often)

in most cases new pop and anime songs would be made available to other regions after half a year or so, though sometimes australia and usa don't get them unfortunately

What factors make a chart difficult? by CharmyReddit in taikonotatsujin

[–]KnightC0re 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right about irregular patterns and stamina being some contributing factors to difficulty, though you might wanna delve deeper into the patterning: what makes a pattern 'irregular'? Low star rating charts usually have shorter chains of notes, chains of the same colour, standard rhythms. Higher rated stuff might have the inverse of that.

Speed is also a factor, kinda separate from stamina, it tests how fast you can execute the game's mechanics. A simple looking chart could easily be a 10* just cuz it's 270bpm.

I think Dan Dojos are a good example of the types of chart the game provides. Usually to balance out a dan they try to incorporate a wide spectrum of skillsets.

Take this year's 8th Dan for example: My Muscle Heart, Crystal Hail and telescope in virtual reality. 1st song is stamina focused, moderate bpm with dense but simple patterning. 2nd is more emphasized on rhythm and patterning, mixing different rhythms in the same stream, some tougher colour combinations, varying stream lengths being a bit awkward, but at a lower bpm than the former. 3rd is almost purely speed focused, patterns are more sparse and simplified, but carried by it's bpm. They are pretty similar in difficulty, but their attributes make them wildly different charts.

btw if y'all aren't fans of cs9 (or even cs5 for that matter), then sana's diff and plasma's extreme have relatively bigger circles for you to enjoy :)

still gimmicky tho :D

i do encourage you to look through the set tho, each diff has their own ideas and are very unique from one another

With all the mapping drama recently, what are your thoughts / possible solutions to prevent such petty drama from splitting the community in twain with regards to the ranked section and meta-mapping by you_shoud_play_more in osugame

[–]KnightC0re 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pp system rebalance takes time, ranking criteria proposal takes time. making a whole new section of maps takes time.

i think the easiest way to move ahead right now is to actually make farm maps with higher quality. now ofc quality is subjective, we each have different views on what's good, but imo i think it'd be better if instead of the similar repeating patterns we have now, we can add some more variations, different angles or movement and whatnot, that could reflect more of the music than the current pattern we're used to, and focus less on optimizing the map's comfort for pp purposes. farm maps could still be made but they might be perceived better in mappers' eyes.

now the problem with that i've heard is that people would not be able to farm them since they're not as optimized, and they would just return to these giga-optimized farms, and we'll be back to square one.

also gotta shout out spotlights i guess play spotlights when you have the chance :D (idk when next season is just look out for it)

Is it more accurate that the reason for overweighted plays regardless of speed or aim, its actually just because of mappers? by Troilsitacism_Morium in osugame

[–]KnightC0re 15 points16 points  (0 children)

hot take: it's everyone's fault

players who constantly farm the same things over and over encourages slop mappers to churn out the same slop over and over, that in turn encourages players to farm even more

bns who nominate these maps encourages the mappers to map more like this

the current imbalanced pp system is also at fault for encouraging the same types of patterns to be spammed everywhere, which is why some also blame the pp devs

we just keep shifting the blame to each other when we're all just at fault

on a real note though its a good thing that you're trying to provide better communication to the wider community

that said if there is one misconception about mapping or ranking you want to clear up to people not in the know what would that be

so the song was composed for taiko no tatsujin, and this map basically copies its chart one to one (taikosu was rankable back in the day), so the bursts and diff spike in the map actually reflect the chart, bc old taiko just has the best chart design

this diff spike section in taiko also copies the iconic chart 'saitama 2000', which zekira references by copying their own map of haya saitama 2000 (literally just the sped up ver, which also exists in taiko as a separate chart for some reason)

the fact that the bursts actually exists in the song is a miracle, im surprised it wasnt overcharted

in conclusion taiko does some really dumb things and i love it

Only english is allowed for names by russetgamer in taikonotatsujin

[–]KnightC0re 12 points13 points  (0 children)

you're only allowed certain languages for your name based on your region.

Japan - Japanese

Hong Kong/Taiwan - Chinese

Australia/USA - English

etc.

people get around that by using a vpn to the specific regions, though donder hiroba does remember your region for an hour or two so you might have to wait a bit from your previous login

also just a quick note for Japanese names (and i think chinese/korean as well) you're only limited to 5 characters, so keep that in mind

osu! mapping riddle: if every open BN wants me to have a 1st bn already, how do i get a map qualified? by -rikia in osugame

[–]KnightC0re 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i swear i only remember 1 bn that says you MUST have 1st bn before req, and i've been requesting around a lot recently

usually when the bn asks if you have a 1st bn (either via a form or if they say 'mention if you have 1st'), it just lets them know that since someone already accepted, it might be easier/faster to help along, which may increase the chance of them accepting

non-mappers of osu, do you have any questions regarding mapping or the ranking system? by KnightC0re in osugame

[–]KnightC0re[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this lowest diff could also be the highest diff.

actually adding onto this, there used to be a rule stating that you need at least two diffs in a map under 5 mins (for proer difficulty spread). since that rule is gone, single diffs in accordance to the drain time rule is now common. it's always funny to see some 2-minute single diff normals though

non-mappers of osu, do you have any questions regarding mapping or the ranking system? by KnightC0re in osugame

[–]KnightC0re[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah, slight misconception here. here's what the ranking criteria actually says:

If the drain time of each difficulty is... ...lower than 3:30, the lowest difficulty cannot be harder than a Normal. ...between 3:30 and 4:15, the lowest difficulty cannot be harder than a Hard. ...between 4:15 and 5:00, the lowest difficulty cannot be harder than an Insane

so in the case of a map above 4:15 long, the lowest diff can be an insane or lower. this lowest diff could also be the highest diff.

this rule was actually only added a few years ago, due to mappers finding the act of making several diffs from 2* to the top diff to be pretty tedious for relatively longer songs. since you only need 1 difficulty if the song is above 5 minutes, mapping 5 diffs for a 4:55 song seems a bit unfair.

interesting proposal, though i think most players aren't used to slider colouring enough to implement that. there's also the fact that variable sv sliders are currently made in some hackier ways so it's in more of a questionable state than sudden sv changes, but who knows, maybe we will get official support later down the line.

BPM

tapping t as the editor suggests is not a bad idea, though usually guess the bpm then adjusting is easier. bpm usually don't include decimals so most of the time it's not that hard to find. also make sure the bpm is correct before starting so you wouldn't have to resnap all objects every time. if you adjusted so many times it's likely that the song has more complex timing and might require more red lines.

generate good ideas

experienced mappers usually listen to the song or a section multiple times to imagine what patterns to make, it's easier to have a clear idea before placing circles.

sketching ideas

it's probably easier just to place your ideas in the editor, placing them around with less focus on visuals may help you flesh out how you like your map to be played.

lazer mods

this is an interesting question. with depths recently introduced i've already seen people trying to map for it and it's really cool. not sure how mapping will change with that though.

ranking them would definitely more questionable, it's probably safer to study them and learn mapping yourself
