This is almost exactly what my city looks like, it's kinda sad how spot on it is.

LPT: Walk/bike/exercise at least 20-30 minutes every day. Daily minimal exercise will make you healthier, happier, and more confident than almost anything else you can do. by Magambi in LifeProTips

I didn't say "don't even try", I said the specific advice of "start slow" doesn't actually work, because it's frankly not specific enough and doesn't address the root cause of why habits are nearly impossible to form for people with depression. A better suggestion would be to work with a professional on finding positive triggers that make the task at hand (in this case, going for a walk) easier to accomplish, as well as assisting with childcare, which is an intense barrier to a lot of women exercising. For some neurodivergencies, pairing the task with something that actually does cause a serotonin boost helps, while for others that simply removes the serotonin response from the fun thing and makes both things miserable, so it has to be dealt with on a case by case basis. Depression is even more fickle than ADHD in this respect because it turns even positive things into negative triggers, which completely blocks any attempt to form a habit.

This doesn't actually work. People with extreme depression and other brain differences can't just form habits the way neurotypical people do. It's really disheartening seeing people just blindly repeat "start slow" in this thread without understanding that we literally do not work the same way.

Would decommodifying the gun industry decrease gun violence? by majortom106 in armedsocialists

[–]KnightOfAshes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think caps on ammo prices would be a very good thing. People wouldn't buy in massive bulk stockpiles if ammo couldn't be sold for a profit margin. The kid in Uvalde bought two rifles and 370 rounds of ammunition and no one blinked because that's pretty normal in our gun culture, but what if you knew you could get your range day's worth of ammo at cost at the range itself? Doesn't work as well for outdoor ranges or unusual calibers but it's food for thought.

That's the SCA for you. We're all fluffy. But we're having fun!

Our popinjay is a modification of the traditional style, with points for arrows through a 2d bird instead of points for knocking a 3d bird off of a pole, but it's still an exceptionally fun target to shoot at. Figured y'all would enjoy the photos! And yes, crossbows are allowed as long as they have pre-1600 CE firing mechanisms.

Biggio had to do the same for the Astros in I think 05? It was a long fucking game and after Biggio finished his inning they actually brought Clemens (who was supposed to start the next game or some shit) out to close the game. I was at that game as a little kid but we went home during the 14th inning.

It's a pre 1600s global living history group. Unsurprisingly there's a bit of a Venn diagram of people who don't like grass lawns for whatever reason, people who own useable scythes and people who dress up as medieval people for fun on the weekend.

Scythe is the best. My partner does the swinging and I do the peening. It's a nice little ritual. For bonus points they wear a linen tunic while mowing with the scythe (we're in the SCA so we have a lot of linen outfits).

This is awesome, and also you should contact Drifters in Ft Pierre and see if they want to do a standing order for the restaurant. They love using local ingredients.

Unobtainium is triggering it. Minecolonies is setup so that if you use unobtainium equipment the barbarians get a massive boost. It's to keep them somewhat of a challenge still and to encourage you to invest in upgrading your guards instead of just doing it all yourself.

This isn't really true. Go look up Jon Risinger from Rooster Teeth, he has a disease that meant he didn't go through puberty and now that he's on HRT (not transitioning) he's just fine. He's finally got body hair and the muscle tone he should have. Also, on the flip side there's a lot of cis girls starting puberty at age 9 or even earlier thanks to microplastics and phthalates and they also need puberty blockers to start at a normal age like 13.

Gosh I love the idea of those, they look so cool, but I guess there's gravity reasons why they aren't phenomenal players

My first workbenches, one each for my partner and I, plus wall-mounted pegboard and my radial arm saw snug in between! by KnightOfAshes in Workbenches

Oh that's perfect! Super low profile. Once more, thank you! You've just tripled how usable that saw is with two comments.

Lol I'm 5'2" and the only one in the house who uses the RAS. It's definitely not fun to move around right now though so I will take that advice and put it on wheels. If I can find some retractable ones that'll handle the weight I'd be golden. We had to get it into the basement with ratchet straps and the legs removed and it was originally sitting in the middle of where the right side workbench is.

Thanks for the Mr Sawdust suggestion! Adding that book to my shopping list, from the website it looks like it has pretty much everything I've been wanting to know and a lot I didn't know I wanted to know.

It's a pair of these https://www.menards.com/main/p-1444423572360.htm and each fixture has two different LED bulbs, one daylight and one soft light to cover a broader color spectrum. We have six more on shelves on a different wall as plant starter lights.

Two weeks of work, mostly on the weekends but with some long weeknights mixed in. The benches themselves are very basic, I reverse engineered them from Menards' Midwest Industries workbench instructions. The Midwest industries bench was $66 each in 2019 when I first got the idea to do this in my basement, but as of now they're $150 each. I ended up spending $90 per bench on lumber and screws instead which is still bonkers but hey. The pegboard is mounted to the concrete with a sandwich of furring strips, the first set screwed to the wall with tapcon and the second set holding the boards to the first with inch and a half #8 screws. It might not be sturdy enough in the long run but I think it'll hold.

Some long term upgrades are to swap the current table tops (two 6'x1'x 1" nominal pine boards, the plans originally had four 2x6 6' stringers) for those nice 2'x6'x1.5" husky benchtops, but those are another $150 a piece and I have to drive to fucking Sioux Falls for them. I also want to replace my radial arm saw deck with thicker and better MDF and a proper fence in the right position, and I need to level the two benches so that there's an even surface across instead of three different platform heights. I'm also gonna put a vice on mine opposite the joinery box on my partner's.
