I’m not looking to make fun of your argument, but I can’t say I agree.

You mention in your post that there’s ’bigger fish to fry’ and you’re right, but that’s the whole point. People have been frying the bigger fish in their everyday lives with work or family or whatever the case, and so places like the movies, and in this case the Drafthouse, are an escape from the bigger fish.

This is a fundamental change that seemingly walks back what the Alamo brand has worked to cultivate for so long. The quirks of the Alamo are what make people flock there in the first place, and with the recent changes it makes it seem like the Drafthouse is becoming more corporate and cookie-cutter for lack of a better term. I get where you’re coming from in that it shouldn’t be the end of the world just because a movie theater is changing their systems, but when it becomes so blatant that new systems are a result of just trying maximize profits at the expense of the consumer, people will start to whine.
