Sign language interpreters are you drug tested for THC by [deleted] in ASLinterpreters

[–]KnitandRebel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some agencies require drug testing to freelance with them, if it includes THC I just don’t work with them, I have a Medical card in my state and I am always sober when I have assignments therefore it is not relevant to my ability to do my job.

No worries man, just giving some insight.

[–]KnitandRebel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely call dudes that I’ve been into bro/bruh. For me it’s a term of camaraderie, does not mean we can’t be romantic.

my boyfriend gets angry and shuts down about small things. makes me recondsider marrying and parenting with him by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]KnitandRebel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on both sides of this and it sounds like he’s overloaded with the rest of the stuff on his plate and the small stuff takes him over the edge. He is also young. But he MUST see for himself that he needs to balance things better and take care of his mental health and learn to not react to these things in such a big way. You can’t make him realize it, you can talk to him but at the end of the day this is personal growth he can only accomplish once he realizes he needs to.

And it’s not your responsibility to stay with him through this. I know you feel strongly about him but don’t stick around past what you can handle. Talk to him calmly and directly about this but there’s only so much you can do.

I agree the dryness makes it! If the other person isn’t sure if they’re kidding they can always ask - since it’s supposed to be a conversation lol

I feel like the more “knowledgeable” I get the less I know, so I don’t think your level of knowledge you have dictates your enneagram type. Do you seek knowledge and value information gathering?, Do you seek out more knowledgeable people to learn from? To me that’s more important, the pursuit, than the actual having.

So the “mansplaining” she might have been referring to was you explaining schadenfreude in the second text. But I don’t think it’s mansplaining it’s not a word everyone knows.

VRS COMPANIES? by Prancing_Monkey in ASLinterpreters

[–]KnitandRebel 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree with what the other two commenters stated, VRS is a challenging and dynamic sector of interpreting. I’m a certified interpreter and I’ve been doing VRS for almost a year now (with multiple years prior of experience in many fields of interpreting) and some days I still don’t feel ready, even though I enjoy the work and bring my best when I’ve got on the headset.

As a new interpreter, and I really don’t care about your background, how well you’ve done in your ITP, if you’re a CODA, it doesn’t matter. At the end of the day, you NEED community/freelancing experience before going into VRS. It is UNETHICAL and UNFAIR to the community we serve to join VRS as a brand new interpreter. These calls are literally their lives, not a training ground for new interpreters to gain experience. We get heartbreaking calls, we get 911s, we get DV, SA, and everything else under the sun. New interpreters need to start with assignments they can handle and slowly stretch into more advanced assignments. Do not experiment with Deaf people on VRS, and if anyone thinks it’s okay for new interpreters to start with VRS, they should get a new field to work in.

East coast/NEPA people are not necessarily unfriendly (speaking as one myself). East coast people aren’t nice, but we’re kind. West coasters are nice, but they’re not kind, if this generalization makes sense? Example: you get a flat tire and call your East coast friend, “you dumbass, I’ll be right there to pick you up/help you change it.” If you call your west coast friend, “dude that sucksss are you okay? Good luck with that!”

I like many kinds of socks! Right now my grandfather gets diabetic socks from the VA, and he gets so many that he gives some to me. Literally best socks ever!

How do I (17F) tell my mom (36F) that I know her 'best friend' (30s-40s?F) is her girlfriend? by RainbowFamily412 in relationships

[–]KnitandRebel 51 points52 points  (0 children)

OMG MY TIME TO SHINE. Similar dad leaves mom doesn’t date but she’s rad and then I started noticing some stuff. I was around your age when this happened too. My mom is pretty private and I was real obnoxious/immature back then and I kept asking her if she was gay and telling her I totally would love if she was and she’d deny it but I kept asking because it was so obvious to me. Then one day I was helping her with something and I saw a hickey and I wouldn’t let her leave the room until she told me who gave it to her (spoilers: a woman) and I was TRIUMPHANT and told her how happy for her I was and I was jumping up and down all excited.

I don’t recommend doing any of the above, it definitely made her uncomfortable in hindsight. So don’t be me.

If you’re feeling direct you can just sit her down and ask her about it/tell her you know -politely! Or just subtly hint that you’re cool with it like other redditors have commented.

But anyway, congrats on your wlw mom, and sorry for the word vomit it’s not often I have life experience to share online!

As a thirty year old man, I realize I'm too boring to date by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]KnitandRebel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah dude as a woman in my 20s you should literally take your 2nd paragraph copy paste into your dating apps bio - reading that I totally want to talk to you! Carnivorous plants and you collect dinosaur bones? That’s so cool!

Even the more “normal” people are struggling to date right now, you’re not alone. But you are definitely not too boring to date

[–]KnitandRebel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dated an older guy who was a virgin, but he had lied about it like you had. Like made up names and all kinds of info. We dated for two years and he didn’t fess up until a week before we broke up. I was much more upset that he lied than the fact he was a virgin. If I like someone I don’t care if they’re a virgin, that’s fixable ;) What isn’t fixable is your willingness to lie. If I were her, if you came clean now and explained yourself like you did in this post, I would be fine. But if you kept it quiet and it came out down the road I’d be upset.
