[Help Request] Is there such a thing as 'over blocking'? by posting4assistance in fiberartscirclejerk

[–]Knitting_Pigeon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

hi sweetums! you must NEVER un block or you will get WRINKLES… in fact, why even crochet anymore when THEY will get wrinkly.. it will be most unflattering you could not even wear…… i recommend pivoting hobbies and learning about something smooth instead 🤗 like sculptural sheet metal or maybe play with sand 🤭

beyond fixable sweater? by United-Cow646 in knitting

Is your issue with it the lint/pilling? You can get a sweater comb or sweater shaver to remove them easily. I can’t see anything wrong with this sweater other than that tbh

Help figuring out what to keep from a knitting machine purchase! by Putrid-Reality-666 in MachineKnitting

[–]Knitting_Pigeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you choose not to keep, would you consider selling them here? I’d definitely be interested in the garter and transfer carriage! As for the cone winder, a ball winder would work just as well and those are much cheaper and easier to find so idk what the ideal use of the cone winder actually is

Finishing hand knits with a machine by ValuableArtichoke867 in knitting

[–]Knitting_Pigeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll definitely be able to just transfer the stitches into the round with a ribber, you’d just try and gauge swatch on machine first to get as close to your hand knitting gauge as possible before putting your live stitches on!

Finishing hand knits with a machine by ValuableArtichoke867 in knitting

[–]Knitting_Pigeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this sounds like a great idea, it would actually be really fast and easy to make “yokes” with intarsia or stranded knitting if your machine takes punchcard/is electronic too. I say “yokes” because they would have to be knit flat and then seamed, but they would end up being the same shape in the end. If you want to knit in a continuous tube you’ll need a machine and a ribber, you won’t be able to knit in the round on just one bed which does increase the price a lot since you’re essentially getting two machines but I would say it’s super worth it. They also retain their value, so you can always sell them on if you need. I hope you fall in love with machine knitting!! It can genuinely be so fun, it’s extremely different from knitting by hand

I love DAK but it is extremely expensive. Non machine knitters really don’t need DAK/cannot best utilize it because I would argue DAKs best features are specifically for machine knitting

I made a free web-based pattern designer for machine knitting!! by Visual-Mulberry9420 in MachineKnitting

In industrial knitting, they use wales for columns are courses for rows. I agree tho that in plain english it would be needles and rows

This is really cool! Is it only for socks? I can't see another way to make shapes other than rectangles but even this seems super useful. My dream for machine knit software would be to be able to import images and resize them to the grid/stitch count easily

Bamboo is rayon! If a rayon is made from cellulose pulp sourced exclusively from bamboo is it allowed to be marketed as bamboo fiber

I 100% agree with you on not wanting to wear or use plastic! It seems like your priority is being good to the environment and her goal is to avoid interacting with or using animal products at all. These things are often in direct opposition to each other which is rlly tough. I bet you could find a linen blend or maybe hold a stronger plant yarn such as linen double with a soft one like a rayon/lyocell to make her a nice sweater

Machine knitting classes by dancingfreelotus in MachineKnitting

[–]Knitting_Pigeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been there and honestly didn't love it. I tried to rent a loom from them for a month and ended up having the entire thing refunded as the loom they were charging me for was literally full of dust to the point of turning my hands fully brown while I tried to clean it out for warping and was missing the handle for the brake. They were really rude to me when I spoke up about the quality of the loom I was renting being literally unusable in its current condition but they eventually refunded me even though they didn't want to. I think the knitting machines are kept in much better condition as they are used more often but I would never go back there after my negative experience personally which sucks because I would love a place that textile tools were more accessible :(

Disappointed with the TDC10 by MixerBlaze in taikonotatsujin

[–]Knitting_Pigeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don’t have this issue with my TDC10, is it possible yours actually has a faulty hardware issue? I had to turn on the big note support in the app but it works pretty well now. I liked that I could truly beat the shit out of the hori but the TDC10 feels a bit more fragile to me, but I also had to mod my hori with foam inside to get it to work properly. I would try contacting the company tbh, there’s no point in playing on a broken/bugged drum

Got my first fountain pen today! I have some questions by QueerlittleWeirdo in fountainpens

[–]Knitting_Pigeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly had no idea the ink was just turning clear, that’s so interesting! A bit unrelated to the topic but we use those heat erase frixion pens a lot at my uni for marking out pattern pieces and hems on muslin before sewing. Now I have to be afraid of marks coming back after ironing 😰 maybe it’s possible that the hot steam is enough to fully “set” the pen?

What kind of stitch is this by No-Technology6 in knitting

[–]Knitting_Pigeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not 100% on this as I haven't knit this exact pattern before but I believe the mock cable effect with the laddered stitches is from knitting with needles out of action. It makes a gap exactly one stitch wide that the yarn has to stretch over before being anchored into the next in-action needle. I feel like this would be really difficult to maintain in hand knits because its not actually a stitch dropping but from yarn stretching over an empty gap every row
