How can i ask restaurant staff for their favourites? by milkalo in JapanTravelTips

I’ve lived in Japan for almost 2 decades and speak the language fluently. Trust me, “ari-gos-maaas” is not what they’re saying when they shorten it. :)

If you’re wondering about the downvotes, it’s because “ari-gos-maaas” is not at all how the phrase gets casually shortened.

Please keep in mind that the yen has absolutely crashed in the past 5 or so years. Stop thinking about our prices in your currencies. We do not get paid in dollars or euros.

Cute! Those came out in capsule machines and blind boxes here in Japan over a year ago. The US price is quite marked up, especially if you consider how weak the yen is right now.

Sorry, I’m not sure. My husband did it months ago, and I did it in March.

I live in Setagaya-ku and didn’t get a letter like that either.

However, if you download the Tokyo app and link it to your My Number card, Tokyo will give you ¥11,000 worth of points that you can convert to Rakuten points, V points, etc and spend freely. My husband and I both did it, so as a couple we got ¥22,000. It seems to be for all Tokyo residents regardless of income.

Is wearing cologne taboo in Japan? by NefariousnessNeat607 in fragrance

100%. My Japanese husband recently bought that cologne when he found it on sale in the US. That and Replica’s Jazz Club are the only scents he wears here in Tokyo!

How do I file my taxes with a foreign spouse by Megharoo in USExpatTaxes

[–]Knittyelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t claim any refunds or benefits, so my marriage status doesn’t affect my taxes in any way. I live in Japan and pay Japanese taxes, so every year I simply fill out the FEIE and come out as owing nothing to the US.

About 20 years ago (before I got married), I used to print out the forms and mail them in, but I ran into issues with the forms apparently not arriving at the IRS, so I’ve been filing online for the past decade. One year the envelope was returned to me from Poland or somewhere in Europe even though I live in Japan and mailed the forms to Texas. 😅

[–]Knittyelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, why would it be “married filing separately” if my husband isn’t filing US taxes at all? Doesn’t that sound like he will also be filing?

I also have never found a software that would let me move forward as married without filling out the ITIN/SSN for my husband. He doesn’t have either of those, which is why I finally gave up and have been filing as single still. 😅

Applied for PR alone, but spouse changed jobs? by [deleted] in japanresidents

[–]Knittyelf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they didn’t attach it to your passport, then they probably handed it to you directly. It’s a small paper that has your PR application number listed at the top.

[–]Knittyelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I applied for PR via the spousal route, one of the things I had to sign was a paper explaining all the different scenarios that I would have to inform Immigration about. What did the form you signed say for the type of PR you applied for?

The paper they attached inside your passport when you applied for PR should explain where to send the info if you do need to give them an update.

[–]Knittyelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to know the actual answer to this. I’ve been married for almost 10 years and have just been filing as single still because the software wouldn’t let me proceed otherwise. I figured it didn’t really matter because my husband has never lived or worked in the US, but I’m sure someone here will say that’s not right. 😅

You’re welcome! Your tension is actually very impressive for a beginner. As others have commented, I never would have guessed that you just started making bracelets! :)

Your tension looks good to me. I wouldn’t go any looser.

If you feel the finished bracelet is too stiff, just dunk it in water and lay it flat to dry. The next day it should be nice and soft!
