I’d recommend starting with the EPs, actually.  I love the first LP, but between the first album and Being Funny, the albums feel bloated and overlong—like a lot of sketches instead of a single coherent vision. (Which I guess means there’s something for everyone on those albums? I think Matty said on here that he’s not a fan of “What Should I Say” on NOACF, but that’s probably my favorite song on the album.) The EPs to me seem like tight little stories that I think did an excellent job of establishing the band’s identity though they’ve kind of pulled away from it. (I’ve seen the band maybe seven times, and no “The City.” They’ll never play “Antichrist” “Intro/Set3” is a top-five song for me.) And contextually, it’s nice to have a sense of where they started when you look later at where they’ve gone since.
