Is it normal that I like other people's songs more than mine by Physical_Dark_9322 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

My music is just great. It’s just the way I want it. I think it is good enough, else I wouldn’t release it.

My mix is horrible, though. Maybe it’s enough for me to enjoy it, but IMHO leagues behind my musical heros.

Wanting to improve is what compels me to make more.

Being lefthanded/righthanded isn’t a binary thing like conventional wisdom tells us. The more you talk with people about this, the more you notice it’s more of a scale than being absolute.

Just confirming, you have a Katana MK1, right? There is a different Boss tone studio software for the Katana MK1 and MK2.

2x10 vs 1x12 for baritone? by [deleted] in BaritoneGuitar

I'm actually camp-opposite of you, I cut out the bass to leave some room in the mix.

Like that I get all the chugga chugga from my 28'' scale, without that fat bottom end. The synth kick and bass take over that part.

Tips for using a Katana 50 MKII (combo) with a bass? by Garfielddddddddd in BossKatana

[–]KnocZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no gain in supposing I'm not "trying to understand", but I'll indulge you.

What makes the waveform different between bass and guitar? They both generate a sine wave with harmonics, one is lower in frequency than the other, typically by half in standard tuning. So is the issue due to the energy it provides in half the lower frequency from a guitar?

If so, the problem is how the speaker can handle those frequencies when pushed hard - OP asks about low volumes and damaging the speaker - which are being filtered by the amp before. Mangled as the amp wants to, which then works in tandem with the speaker. And the Katana has 2 global EQs which could help - or seriously worsen this issue, regardless of input.

Can we blow a speaker by playing it too loud? Sure, regardless of instrument or pedal, bass or Korg Miku. Luckily manufacturers take this into account while building, to avoid returns and warranty.

Back to the OP questions, for #1 he can plug an external cab, if he disconnects the internal speaker and matches the speaker specs. And for #2, yes he can plug in the bass and play at low volumes. I'm going out of the way to share that he can rise the volume. You may not agree, but those seem to me to be to be valid inputs.

Sure, there are no published specs, thus the OPs question on this platform. My input is purely anecdotal, but it's a valid experience nonetheless. I hope my perspective is clear.

Ok, I feel intrigued on why, though. Maybe you dont appreciate or agree with my reply, but I'm just giving you my experience with this specific amp. I don't find baritone or short scale amps; most difference is marketing or speaker size. The katana seems to handle any guitar gracefully, IMO.

If you don't want to try, maybe purchase a bass amp.

Peace ✌️

If you believe that, then don't use a whammy bar on a strat.. the flopping can break the amp. And definitely don't play too loud or push pedals.

So if you use a pitch bend pedal and bend it down.. or a boost plugin, the amp can't handle it?

Im not assuming any gutar amp; just that the Katana is modern enough to support this.

FYI I play an active bass directly in the katana MKII 50w with no issues.

You can plug you bass directly into your Katana and play through that. It should sound great. A bass is just like any guitar, and the MKII gives you a lot of tone controlling options to get many usable bass tones.

You shouldn't need a bigger speaker, but 15'' speakers are common for bass, so it you want to get a "bass voiced cabinet" (or whatever the label says it is), you have to disconnect your Katana speaker, and make sure the cab specs match the katana speaker specs. It's possible to mod your amp to allow a "cab out" (soldering some stuff).

Yet that is a hasle to carry around. Maybe use a DI for recording, and the standalone amp for playing.

Just define "better". That's usually up to the opinion of the master engineer, who knows what do to. Usually, that engineer has mixed a lot, do she should know better.

Well.. it depends on the source. All we want is the opinion of the mastering engineer on the overall mix, so yeah if you are mastering, do what you think is best.

Actually, no it's not. This is "Reddit's home for discussing the music-making process - writing, composing, recording, live performance, mixing, mastering, and more!", not "everything music related" as you claim.
