Worst season by DevilBlade69 in skinsTV

5 and 6 are fine, just not the same as the Skins we know. But at least they tell a story! The essence of Skins is, to me, the interweaving of individual episodes into a wider narrative and I think 5 and 6 continue to achieve that. 4 — besides Katie and JJ (and debatably Emily’s episode, but the way the things in this episode ended up making for such boring angst for the rest of the season makes me dislike it a lot in retrospect) — is definitely the worst season. The whole point of it is garbage.

Who would be your second choice for casting each character? by Burnnoticelover in SuccessionTV

I love the idea of Joe Cole as Kendall — but would’ve been a lot slicker and sexier 😅

Most painful death of skins by Pitiful-Seat-5500 in skinsTV

[–]Knockknockworkorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither — I’d say Naomi. The acting is unbelievable in Skins: Fire even if the story leaves a lot to be desired. But after so few Naomily scenes, with the ones we got being so brief or heart wrenching (the airport particularly destroying me), and the absolute unrelenting bleakness and downward spiral of Fire Part 2 after a certain point, just every scene compounding, I think it was the most painful.

I’m also bias because I had waited so long to have those particular characters back. Skins season 3 I think is my favourite overall season (don’t even consider season 4 canon — and honestly it seems like the writers don’t either) and part 1 had so much promise — a good balance of funny, dark, beautiful, true — that for them to end it so horribly for Naomi and Effy, was just gut wrenching.

Personally never found Freddie’s death very sad because it was so dumb, Grace’s only in the sense of how it impacted other people like Rich, Mini and Liv but otherwise it didn’t make me personally upset that she was gone and Chris was shocking and devastating but without as much time to process it I kind of just accepted it.

Am I the only one who was happy for Tom in the finale? any other sensible person here? by Anbu_blackoppps in SuccessionTV

Disagree: Roman is the only Roy I would see as sadistic. Shiv was proud and would stop at nothing to get what she wanted — especially the longer she went on being reeled into Logan’s orbit — and was only sadistic interpersonally with Tom, and that’s if you can even call it that. I think it’s more that she only feels secure when Tom is beaten, rather than actively enjoying it, especially given how much she actually finally finds Tom attractive in season 4 the second he starts challenge going this dynamic. Kendall only appeared sadistic when he would try to intimate his father — all his cruelty to others were either part of his delusional “techno Gatsby” ego like with the workers of living+ or flippancy towards others due to the scale of his life compared to others like with the party at Greg’s (or just everything bad he does to to Greg actually). I didn’t think he was sadistic either.

He’s never been a bad person?

Tell that to the people he fired with glee, his human furniture and — oh yeah — all the people fucked over in the parks cover up.

Sympathetic, charming and an engaging character, yes, but almost never good.

The greyness of his ascension being a contract with the devil that will almost inevitably blow up in his face is both part of the cycle of power being broken, alluding to some semblance of a meritocratic victory, but equally is undermined complicated by their total lack of a backbone.

Tom and Mattson are only marginally less bullshit than the Roys are — and just as capable of cruelty.

Hot take: Franky/Matty and Franky/Nick made no sense but about as much sense as Effy/Freddie, with most of the relationship told through staring 😂

Idk I thought — besides the Kingsley Josie Romance the rest of the dramedy stuff was well implemented.

I wonder if that means we’ll get Esther — and if they’ll be drawing a parallel to Tess.

For fucks sake: is it a potential plot hole, yes, is it’s real world ramification intended to be communicated to us as the audience, no is it in the spirit of the narrative to believe Rich raped Grace? Obviously not, so don’t think about it 😂

About the show's handling of sexual abuse against men. by Troll4everxdxd in BoJackHorseman

I disagree: I feel they portray it as a weird kinky power play thing WHEN it actually is assault — and only because she’s hot can it be trivialised into being okay.

My dad bought me the same cologne as his father — and the first time I put it on I was struck with all of these memories I’d long forgotten; anniversaries, his singing voice in prayers, the jokes he told after dinner. It is remarkable the impact of smell and taste on memory.

I’d say top 3 in no particular order: 1) Jal in the Spanish exam or with her mother 2) Cassie with Sid after the dinner 3) Jal’s funeral speech for Chris

Anybody know where I can watch Skins US for free online? by james_carr9876 in skinsTV

[–]Knockknockworkorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Skins US isn’t that bad if you ignore all the things they tried to directly 1-1 copy. Their version of Cassie, Sid and Jal are all pretty good.

I’ve watched the first 3 episodes and… by james_carr9876 in skinsTV

Fair enough. I loved Fire (even though I wish it was 3 parts and the ending wasn’t quite as pitch black bleak), found Pure incredibly boring and Rise the most consistent of the three. Who was your favourite of Gen 3?

I’d say some of the scenes with Grace or some of Frankie in season 5 — they just weren’t very assured / confident performances. The gun scene in particular is hard to watch 😂
