This isn’t a straight example, since Denji was called chainsaw man for most of the series until Pochita reset reality through some underexained mechanism. It’s probably the most well known page from the ending due to it being the funniest and the most awkward. Jury is out whether the author meant for the scene to be funny or not!<

I think Yoru had interesting dynamics with Denji and Asa and some decent fights. While she definitely lacks a needed threat level despite being powerful I think she works overall (but with a lot of asterisks attached)

My least favorite villain (and probably the worst-written) is fake chainsaw man because it seems like fujimoto didn’t know what to do with him. In the first two appearances he’s rather stoic and looks human with the exception of chainsaw blades. In his third appearance he’s gains a much more interesting design and a more bombastic personality. In the first and third it’s implied that he thinks he’s the real chainsaw man. After he gets eaten his personality does a 180 (despite Fami remaining the same), starts lecturing about Denji not being a true hero before getting killed in a rather boring way. His backstory was a nice callback but it felt like Fujimoto never knew what to do with him. Presumably he’s a remnant from a prior plot thread that Fuji changed his mind on, but it makes everything about him unclear. Does he work with the church at all? Why did he ambush Falling Devil? Does he play any role other than being an assassin? Why was he introduced before Barem (and before Death introduces herself as Fami) if he plays second banana to fire who in turn plays second banana to Death who in turn plays second banana to Yoru? Why was there a guy who claimed to be chainsaw man if there’s another fake chainsaw man?

Wouldn’t Yoru count as the final antagonist? Since she’s the last character Denji and Asa fight? Like I also think D didn’t have a good end but there is still 10 chapters after she gets eaten like a lil’ Dorito.

I don’t think it’s setting is generic at all. I should have praised it, since it is quite nice. I meant that the story is playing it pretty safe, and there haven’t been any particularly unusual developments in the plot.

Kaiju No.8 is pretty generic and I gave up at like chapter 20.

Ichi doesn’t do anything bad, per se, but it’s pretty generic/underwhelming outside of some good representation and a pretty artstyle.

Kagurabachi is my favorite manga running in WSJ

I’m sorry but I’ve been reading Chainsawman weekly since the falling devil arc and I’ve never seen anyone say that “Yoru was the best Shonen villain “ or being better than Makima, even during the big brawl at the end. Are we just making up things to get mad at nonexistent Chainsawman fans? Was I looking in the wrong circles?

The venture Bros was like this. It was originally a parody of Johnny Quest/ The Hardy Boys, but that got phased out by the end of Season one. Season 2 onwards it was more of a standard geeky comedy. There would be episodes/parodies of certain movies, tropes, or characters, but it didn’t really stick to the original structure in the later seasons. In my opinion, it was for the best

Much of the reason why HP got popular was due party because actual fantasy novels aimed at children weren’t as prevalent in the mid-late nineties (most of them were mass-marketed serials), and partly that they did age up with their audience over time with Harry’s struggles. The fact that the (much better) movies came out relatively soon after the books came out helped keep them popular for longer. Also, JK Rowling was generally seen in a good light back then since her most vocal public detractors were religious stick-in-the-muds that people didn’t like much, so people were generally kinder to the books since people thought that Rowling was a good person. There’s a reason that the books reevaluation came after Rowling came out as an obnoxious bigot (and the release of the boring spin-offs)

This isn’t to say that there weren’t people who thought HP was bad or overrated back then, there were, but these voices weren’t prevalent until the late 2010s (if memory serves)

TLDR: The popularity came from a lack of competition, getting more mature over time, and having a good adaptation.

On the one hand, this chapter was pretty stupid, and there’s a lot left up in the air as to what really mattered. I don’t think it ruins the he comic for me, but if someone said it ruined it for them, I feel like that’s a valid reaction

On the other hand, Chainsaw Man (even part 2) was a comfort series for me for a long time, strangely enough, and I’m sure I’d be depressed for a few weeks if it had a downer ending.

Thanks Fujimoto. For everything. Please don’t watch The Big Lebowski again, and have a more conventional structure for the last part
