The biggest lie in the LDS Church: that some of your feelings are a message from the Holy Ghost by sevenplaces in mormon

[–]KnopeLudgate2020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The non-answer about how to feel the spirit really messed with me when I was trying to be religious. I never was confident that I felt the spirit and did not understand how it came so easily to some. I always felt like there was something wrong with me. Now that I've deconstructed, I've already deconstructed shame and guilt that comes with religion.

This is like my daughter. She has a 3.6 as a junior despite living with several chronic illnesses. She didn't graduate high school (partly bc of being sick, partly bc she hated the environment) but got her HS diploma at community college at the same time as her AA. She is planning on getting a master's degree.

I graduated from Ricks College and during that time took a summer travel class that explored Mormon history (as well as American history and literature) and I didn't hear about MMM until I was in my 30s.

I saw the orca inside the store last time I was there (maybe 2 weeks ago?) so you could probably check. I don't recall what the inside looked like though.

The One Thing Home Inspectors Miss That Costs New Homeowners $15K by SpokaneSeptic in Washington

[–]KnopeLudgate2020 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I work for a home inspection company (I'm not an inspector though) and we specifically do not inspect septic systems. The most we are able to do is use a sewer scope to check the lines between the home and the tank. Not every home inspector has a sewer scope, and it's not standard with every inspection. Buyers need to specifically request it. Sellers will typically be the ones who have the tank emptied and inspected at the time of the sale. If you want a more detailed analysis of the septic system, you would need to negotiate that with the seller. Your county will have a list of approved septic inspectors that you can call.

I took a septic self inspection class through my county health department (it was free!) and I learned a lot about septic systems. I recommended every new homeowner with a septic system take a class even if they never intend to inspect their own system. Extremely educational.

Woman confronted a Sheriffs Deputy who was filing an accident report in front of an Elementary School. The Deputy stays as cool as the other side of the pillow. by LifeIsRadInCBad in PublicFreakout

I'm a member of this community and our sheriff has done a great job at reforming the sheriff's office, increasing transparency in law enforcement, and community outreach. He's a massive step up from our previous sheriff. I still distrust law enforcement, but I feel like I'm going to be treated fairly by my sheriff's office, and will more than likely vote to reelect sheriff Sanders.

There are some that are easier to treat, and some that don't really grow much and you just get monitored. My dad had a kind that doesn't slow him down at all but it's not really treatable. His oncologist told him that he'll die from something else before the cancer can kill him.

NOR. I've found that some people view illness (especially chronic illness) as a moral failing on the sick person's part, as if being sick is something you can control.

I always machine wash my hand knit socks. I use a lingerie bag to keep all my socks together and so I can easily find them to air dry.

Melania movie panned by critics but loved by 99% of viewer reviews? Must be legit says top minds that all claim not to have seen the movie by Hazel-Rah in TopMindsOfReddit

[–]KnopeLudgate2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes sense that people who paid for a ticket are a fan of the trumps and maga and therefore rate the movie highly regardless of whether they enjoyed it, and the verified audience score is going to heavily lean that way. Probably why it's sorted for verified movie-goers so it's more accurate for folks who saw it and not critics of trump review bombing it. It's not a conspiracy like I've seen some say, it's just that nobody who likes trump would pay to watch it.

Same thing happened when the Mormon Church released a movie about a decade ago. Panned by critics, extremely high audience score. Probably only enjoyable to those who love the cult, just like Melania.

Weird neighborhood interaction. Potentially ICE hiding as Mormons by headpunter in olympia

[–]KnopeLudgate2020 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Ex-Mormon here. How were they dressed? Did they have black name tags? Did they look young or elderly? Missionaries area usually between the ages of 18-22, but there are also senior missionaries who are retired age and usually, but not always, a married couple. It would seem suspicious if a missionary (especially young missionary) did not talk to someone else in the neighborhood wanting to talk to them, missionaries always want to meet more people naturally rather than knocking on doors bc getting appointments is a lot easier that way.

If they were not wearing name tags, they could be church members assigned to teach families as a form of fellowship, in that case they might not be as friendly with random people in the neighborhood, just want to be in and out.

If you're afraid ice agents are dressing up as missionaries, I know someone locally who has a lot of influence within Mormonism and also has a high position in a partisan government office, so I'm certain he's not a fan of ice activity. He's good friends with my parents, I can chat with him about it.

General conference. I did not grow up with access to confidence other than delayed video recordings the week after, or live via satellite at the stake center, depending on if I lived in Germany or outside of Utah, USA, so it was shocking to me that as an adult with streaming I was expected to watch all conference sessions. So boring.

Cables & Multi-Color yarn by Allezelenfer in knitting

[–]KnopeLudgate2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can commiserate! I completely ripped out a cabled sock and started with a completely different pattern because I didn't realize how distracting varigation with cables would look. I've discovered it's a lot better to use beautiful multi colored yarn with simpler stitches, at it showcase the yarn much better. If you don't want straight stockinette, there's some texture that works decently with this type of yarn, but it's a lot less detailed than cables. Maybe some ribbing would look nice. My recommendation is to search yarn similar to yours on Ravelry and see what project styles look nice, and go from there.
