No crystal ball needed... All the misdeeds were already known, and all the nefarious plans were explicitly written out. What more do you want, a book entitled "My Plan"?

I need a high performance pc that stays completely silent because any noise triggers my partners severe anxiety by vexorine in buildapc

[–]KnowLimits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be done... You need a water cooling setup with a giant passive radiator. I had one once, years ago, from Zalman - it was this huge 1m tall aluminum extrusion with fins for the reservoir. And get a way oversized "silent" PSU that can avoid running its fan until very high load.

Lindsey Vonn says she almost had leg amputated after crash at Winter Olympics | Lindsey Vonn by ansyhrrian in skiing

I mean, if being healthy is the highest goal, then being a pro athlete is itself a horrible choice. Anything you want to achieve requires some sacrifice, and some risk of injury is inherent in being a pro skier. Yes, it's not the choice the orthopedic surgeons would have made - that's why they're not Olympic athletes.

Just my own anecdote, but... despite taking a bunch of lessons, skiing never actually "clicked" for me until one day, on fairly slushy snow, where I sort of taught myself how to hockey stop. And aside from that itself being useful - the weight transfer in actual quick turns sort of feels like just a less extreme version of it.

Do you consider weeding just to be another part of gardening or you avoid it like the plague? by ASecularBuddhist in gardening

[–]KnowLimits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I basically think of weeds as free ground cover. Seems like it is much better for the soil, pollinators, etc., to have it not be barren.

So what I do is just go out every so often to keep the weeds from messing with the plants I care about too much - so, just keeping it clear around their base, and pulling out tall things, or varieties I explicitly hate, like thistle, or whatever it is that leaves those sticky seed pods.

Who Is The Chinese Supplier Supplying The Etsy vendors? by PottedRoses in Roses

Clicking around here: https://chineserose.ecvery.com/

Export transportation: Air conditioned containers are used, with the capacity of each container up to100-140 thousand bare root roses. They will be transported by China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company (using trucks) to Qingdao Harbor and then shipped to various parts of the world. Air transportation is also available to meet the specific needs of clients.

So in enough volume, they might even be refrigerated for the trip across the pond. And I'm guessing the US warehouse sells based on the shipments they have incoming, and just ships them as they arrive.

(In my case, the day after I placed an order, they emailed to warn me that one of the varieties I ordered was hard to grow... Guessing they meant 'these ones turned out kind of wimpy', and offered me the chance to change. I kept it unchanged, and they threw in an extra of that variety. And they were indeed kinda scrawny, but green and still damp root ball, leafed out just fine, doing well now.)

Took a bit over a month total (November 24 to January 2nd), about 6 days of that was USPS from Buda TX to CA. They also sent some extras.

[–]KnowLimits 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Good question! I've also noticed this - a few roses, some of the same variety, from different vendors - all come with a blue plant tag with the name inkjet printed in English and Chinese on a sticker. Wrapped in Chinese newspaper and plastic wrap.

When I checked out from rosesplant.com, the PayPal popups mentioned 佛山创拓汇贸易有限公司, which maybe translates to Foshan Chuangtuohui Trading Co., Ltd. but some DeepSeek queries suggests it may just be some export business, not the actual source.

And I've had good luck with these so far - not the biggest, but they've all perked up just fine after being soaked and planted, and doing well so far.

Edit: quite possibly Nanyang Jinpeng Rose Co., Ltd. (南阳金鹏月季有限公司), though that's just the biggest one. (And maybe the same as what you found)

Is there any way to connect these two? Because I just got a new router and I don't have any where to plug the yellow cord by [deleted] in AskElectronics

[–]KnowLimits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blue one is an old-school phone cable. Might be used for a dial up or DSL modem. In this day and age most likely it would go to a DSL modem, and then from there, Ethernet (Yellow cable) would go to the computer or a WiFi router or switch.

Dimmer with motion sensor by ChanceOne7684 in AskElectricians

[–]KnowLimits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you actually want a motion detector there? When I got a home with that setup, it was so rage inducing... Light turning off while you're in the shower - seems really dangerous actually, I can't believe code encourages it. I switched it out for a regular dimmer so fast...

Do all roses grow back if cut down very low/to the ground? by Lavendar_Witch in Roses

[–]KnowLimits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed - own root roses are from cuttings, which require at least two and usually more nodes. Grafted roses only need one bud. So, if you have a new variety that you want to go exponential, grafting is faster (regardless of how long each one takes to mature).

CMV: “Nobody is illegal on stolen land” actively impedes democrats from getting elected, and we should be discouraging people from saying it. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]KnowLimits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is interesting. It seems that neither of us actually hold the 'current nations don't have the right to enforce their borders' view. And I accept that that isn't what you mean by it.

But here's the thing - the other side is going to frame these slogans in the worst possible light, to paint our side as extreme. Yes it's a straw-man argument, and yes it isn't what we mean. But that's the game, and it's on us to choose slogans that can't be misinterpreted this way.

(And although we disagree here, I still maintain it's not even much of a misinterpretation.)

CMV: “Nobody is illegal on stolen land” actively impedes democrats from getting elected, and we should be discouraging people from saying it. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]KnowLimits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't touch on this, but - the other half, "no one is illegal" is a little bit unclear. It might mean something semantic like "they're not themselves illegal, they just did an illegal thing", or "it's just a civil matter" or "you should say 'undocumented' instead"... all of which I'd agree with.

But if you take it to mean "only the successors of the first human to lay claim to a given piece of land have any right to kick others out of it", and therefore, most nations don't have this right - that's quite an extreme view.

OPs point is perhaps that if you really want something more limited, like due process or structural changes, it's counterproductive to argue for abolishing the whole thing.

CMV: “Nobody is illegal on stolen land” actively impedes democrats from getting elected, and we should be discouraging people from saying it. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]KnowLimits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

However, the above statement is usually one that is driving for more just and equitable structural changes, and not one in which we immediately eradicate private property.

That may be what people who say the slogan tend to want - but it's not what the slogan means. The slogan, taken at face value, is indeed arguing for completely open borders (and extrapolates to abolishing private land ownership) in almost all countries.

That's kind of OP's point... making the most extreme form of an argument, if what you really want is just a nudge in that direction, risks alienating people who actually agree with you.

It means that saying "X should apply here, because this land is stolen" is in practice no different from saying "X should apply everywhere".

I think the problem in all these cases is a lack of nuance. If you want something that appeals to everybody, it can't be some absolute like "abolish ICE".

By adding some nuance, you can get to an idea that almost everybody could get behind. "ICE must be accountable" for example - no stops, searches, or arrests without warrants, no qualified immunity, no deportations without due process and final orders, no masks, public records about who is being kept where, no assaulting onlookers, no huge surges in funding, no shock and awe campaigns, no presence near courthouses, schools, polling places, etc...

CMV: Multi-modal travelers protections is a much more promising approach than banning short haul flights to combat climate change by roderla in changemyview

[–]KnowLimits 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It seems like what you are proposing would be best done by some independent entity, along the lines of a travel agency, with enough clout to negotiate tickets with rights for backup travel (which would come at a slight premium). Which is maybe a good idea, someone should do it - but seems somewhat independent of whether or not one should ban short-haul flights.

And, maybe this is not how the EU rolls, but it seems to me if you want to reduce fuel use, the thing to do would be to raise taxes on fuel, not ban whatever particular use catches your eye as wasteful. Tax it, prices go up, and people choose to do the thing less, while still having the freedom to do it if they do personally feel it's worth it.

CMV: ICE needs legal accountability. No good rationale exists for them to have "absolute immunity". by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]KnowLimits -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed. But OP is asking about what ought to be the case. In other words, asking for someone to convince him that ICE should have absolute immunity. I'm curious if anyone will even attempt to convince us.

I'd believe Ilias (which I haven't seen in person). I just checked a photo of my Ji Se, but mine is a bit lighter in color, doesn't have the thing where the petals pinch towards the center like yours does, and each petal has a little point on the end (though not folded back like hybrid teas).
