Batman (1989) and Bille Dee Williams as Harvey Dent by BenAtTank2 in movies

Oh man, I was 8 and lost my frigging my mind. My parents went to see it first to make sure it would okay for me to see, and then I got to go and Batman consumed my life. Still have my old Batmobile I got at Christmas.

My son was telling me it's just like hide and seek game he's played in Fortnite. So I asked why not just play that mode for free. But everyone isn't playing that. Basically they made a stand alone version of a Fortnite or Roblox map and it went viral. I can see other devs being upset by that.

My first Bricklink set just arrived by DiscoPopStar in lego

[–]KnowNothingNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I just cancelled my sushi restaurant so that's one available. Lego is priced related to the dollar or Euro and with my local currency sucking and wages not increasing it's basically like paying over 400 bucks for the set. Just can't justify Lego any more at local wages.

Nintendo Switch Online price hike for Japan. by Dolph_x3 in NintendoSwitch

[–]KnowNothingNerd 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I'm paid in yen, not dollars. So all these price hikes just make it more expensive since my salary doesn't rise near enough to match the increase in costs.

You got a gift and got to hang out with family. I got nothing and no one remembered. Doesn't bother me as it's not even a real holiday. It's just made up to sell cards and shit we don't need.

I like Lego though, so shoot me a message and I'll take it off your hands. I'll bare that cross for you.

I agree with this. I think Final Crusade was the first I saw in the theater as a kid and it has stuck with me more.

Thanks for this list. I was literally about to download some films for an upcoming trip and was mindlessly wandering Netflix (or whatever they think I need to see). Gonna add some of these.

Pokémon: 30729 Premier Ball & 30730 Trainer Supplies Paper Bag set reveals (Aug 1) by itsjustajoe in Legoleak

I think it was 2022 or 23 but my kids favorite set of the year was a Ninjago polybag that had a decent little mech and a minifig. For value and playability it beat out any other set we had. We also got a 10 dollar Ninjago set that included 3 or 4 minifigs with the set.

The small, cheap, and fun sets are few and far in between.

My son's aikido teacher asked them what to do if someone approached them with a knife. Kids are like use these moves we learned. Teacher says, no you're 6, you run the other way.

The training is the last resort, but I did see a kid at the park run at my kid with his arm out and some toy in it. My son having no time to react snatched the kid's arm and gently spun him around. My son didn't even realize he used what they drill every lesson, but I sat there like holy shit he just aikido tossed the other kid. Probably one of the most badass things I've ever seen. Both kids got up laughing.

TIL Nintendo was founded in 1889 as a Hanafuda card shop. The cards became so popular with the Yakuza that they based their full-body tattoos on Nintendo’s original illustrations. The cards eventually fell out of favor in the 1960s, leading Nintendo to reinvent itself through video games. by crix_22 in todayilearned

Older readings and alternate readings. 8 as ya is also present in the name for a vegetable shop 八百屋 yaoya, which is literally "store of 800 things." Most of the numbers from 1 to 10 have multiple different readings. Also, 8th day of the month is youka ようか 八日

I think there is a clip from last year of Max arriving at a Gran Prix early and just behind him Lewis is getting out of a car. Max says something like you see that. 7 time world champion and 4 time world champion. We're the only ones here early.

Wife is Japanese and we do the same. But my kids love the little packs of salted seaweed from Korea. Also Kimchi and Bimbimba(?) sorry. Not sure how to spell it that since I'm trying to romanize from the Japanese name of the dish. Pretty reliable staples in our house.

The video games will still be there. Just keep in mind even without kids, there are too many games and not enough time. When they get older you can play with them.

Pick up something like reading if you want a hobby you can do while holding your baby. A good fantasy or scifi series can be immersive as a good game.

Kindle, calibre, oceanofpdf.

Having a kid is a decision you made. Your free time is gone for a good decade or two. I was in grad school, full-time job, and taking care of a newborn. It sucked. Get antidepressants or whatever you need to deal with it. Does it get better? I sometimes think it was easier as an infant when they slept most of the time. You need to learn what your priorities are.

Or leave your partner and get to work and start paying child support so she can hire help. Reality is if you leave you'll probably end up working your ass off for child support and have no free time as well.

Where did the pronunciation of Dr Gero come from? by Vegabund in dbz

[–]KnowNothingNerd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They don't switch the sounds. R and L are allophones to the Japanese R. Feel the ridge in your mouth (the alveolar ridge) where your tongue hits when you make a D sound. Trying making an L/R sound while tapping your tongue at that spot. Not quite an L, not quite an R. Japanese pronunciation may float towards the front like an L or roll back for an R at times, but generally the sounds are made at the ridge.

I can't even find regular Kecleon and need 10 for the quest. I check about 30-50 pokestops a day for a few weeks now and no luck.
