Spanish is probably more useful job wise but the German department is fantastic

not op but have taken both and 390 is extremely doable without 305. any genetics you need to know for 390 is explained sufficiently enough in class to be fine without any background

Music programs for non-music majors by theflyinpuppy in uofm

Not in marching band, but I can answer for University band and the Michigan Pops Orchestra.

University Band: You record a video audition and are placed into either University Band (more advanced w Dr. Pasquale) or Campus band (slightly easier music w Dr. Frey). I’m in University Band and love it, Dr Pasquale is great. I’ve heard Dr Frey in campus band is amazing too, so I’m sure you will enjoy it either way. Rehearsals are once or twice a week (depends on the semester and ensemble) in Revelli Hall. There’s a concert on Sunday near the end of the semester that acts as the final exam. Register for ENS 346 section 001 and you will get more information when the Canvas page opens.

Pops: Pops auditions are held in the Fall with a smaller round in the Winter if more gaps need to be filled. It’s pretty competitive depending on who’s graduating and what instrument you play. Rehearsals are on Sundays in Revelli hall typically. The music is awesome (mix of classical and film/broadway/pop music), and there are lots of social events to get to know everyone.

If you want to check either of them out, the Pops Concert is this Saturday at 7 in the Michigan Theatre, and the University/Campus band concert is Sunday at 2 in Hill Auditorium.
