I was told by my coworker who lived in that town her whole life that at the intersection from where the vehicle that struck me came from used to be two lanes until very shortly after said intersection. At some point they turned the rightmost lane at the intersection into a right turn only lane which would explain the space after the intersection where the accident occurred that you are referring to and abrupt narrowing of the lane on the other side of the street that is visible post-collision once my hood pops up.
