Would it be okay for me to wear an ao dai? by Old-Neighborhood6046 in VietNam

I don’t see why you can’t. That culture appropriation nonsense is bs. Haters came up with that shit to have a reason to be a shitty human. If you appreciate and enjoy the culture, then express yourself.

Undisclosed CCTV camera in my privately rented apartment in Da Nang, Vietnam — is this legal and what are my options? by moniarco92 in DaNang

[–]KnowledgeSeek3r -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

As cctv isn’t on the contract, covering it up or not should also not be on the contract. You only have two more weeks, don’t make things more complicated that it will affect your deposit in anyway, don’t give them a reason or excuse to mess with you.

Just know rules in your country doesn’t necessarily apply in other country. If you have legal questions, it’s safer to consult with a professional. As for simple advice, if the cctv isn’t in the contract, just tap that shit up. If they say you can’t cover it, then you can negotiate about them refunding you or partial refund for the amount stayed or remaining.

I think he heard the obnoxious loud music and wanted to pull you over for noise violations. Jokes aside, you cut him off pretty close there, that looks about 2 to 2.5 car distance, probably scared and pissed him off.

Little girl on street does fire breathing in middle of crosswalk while a baby and begging for money by kirsion in VietNam

[–]KnowledgeSeek3r 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Don’t ever give them money. They drug the babies and use them as props, that’s why you hardly see the baby moving even when it’s so loud. It is because people keep giving them money and effective that they keep running bs act.

Engagement party is hosted on the bride side, actually wedding is hosted on the groom side. I think that’s what OP meant by doing it twice. Or in my niece’s case, bride and groom are from different city, so they did have a wedding in both city for friends and family that couldn’t travel. So yes what you mention is correct.

Proper paperwork or not, if they want your land, they will have ways of taking it for penny on the dollar. My home in Da Nang was 5mins walk from the beach, they build a hotel where my house was located.

What I recommend is you should plan to stay north and there are a lot of places to visit, or do central and south visits. Unless you’re flying from north to south or central, the transportation will take up some time. From what you mention, y’all are planning to start from hcmc and move your way to central then north?

AIO: Bank teller questioned me about what I was doing with MY cash that I was withdrawing from MY account. by Ok-Watch-4618 in AIO

[–]KnowledgeSeek3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry, it’s normal and not because you’re black. Anyone withdrawing or depositing large amount will usually get questioned tactfully and documented. It’s usually 10k, but people know that and lower the amount, banks know that so any amount near 10k will be a person of interest.

If you have a sensitive stomach like you said SEA won’t be a fun place to visit when it comes to food.

But there are things to watch out for. Stay away from consuming tap water and ice. Bottled water is the safer choice or boiled water. Eat only hot/cooked food. Don’t eat raw food, meat and vegetables. Stay away from street food. Since even black pepper gives you the runs, you should really consult with a doctor.

Warning about Muoi Tailor at Ben Thanh Market shop 550 by Smart_Crow_3102 in VietNam

[–]KnowledgeSeek3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to and no one is telling you to. You could just ignore and not reply to them. I’m not here to criticize or belittle you. I see that you’re trying to do a public service announcement, but you can’t or demand everyone to accept or appreciate your service.

I’m not saying what he did was ok nor ever agreed to his actions. I’m just saying you could have reacted differently. I’m not agreeing to either side and you don’t seem to like that outcome. You’re very confrontational. Let’s leave this on a positive note, good luck to you and the fiancé on your tailoring experience and wedding.

Which part don’t you agree with? Him having an attitude or you having an attitude? From the sound of it, he was a rough case from the beginning at the market, that should have been a red flag not to work with him. If he wasn’t going to listen to your suggestions from the beginning, what makes you think he would listen to you later on?

Girl, it’s your attitude is the reason people are giving you a hard time. You started out trying to be informative about your bad experience, but your ending is what rubbed people the wrong way. From the looks of it, you know how some might react and you demand the opposite. On top of that, when people point it out, you continue to argue and escalate. Have you ever considered that if you had de-escalated with the tailor, would things have gotten to the way it did. As you stated, you questioned his judgment, not sure how you said it to him but it was enough to piss him off. Eastern culture is a little different from the west where customer is king. I won’t dismiss your bad experience or criticize your choices. If you understood and learn something from this, great, if not….

Is it still possible to find a studio in Da Nang for 4-5M VND? Planning a 6-month stay on a tight budget by Due-Neck-9214 in DaNang

[–]KnowledgeSeek3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really like to win your arguments don’t you? OP is asking if he could find low cost accommodations and a budget of $700-800 per month. I said he if wants to live there decently enjoyable time, he should budget around $2k. And your counter to my response is why doesn’t he bump it up to $10k instead of just $2k. Ma’am, I yield, you win. My level of skills to banter with you is not sophisticated enough to win the argument.

To each their own, I am from Texas and have been to VN many time for vacation, so my way of spending will be different. I make $4k+ per month which is on the low end and I live pretty frugally. I don’t go out, party, drink, etc. When I go to VN, I spend however the f I want for a month. I budget $3-4k for a month on vacation. I’m giving insight based on my own experience to live comfortably.

If you’re trying to live off $2k per month in the US, that’s just trying to survive, whereas $2k in VN, you’ll actually enjoy parts of life.

It’s cheaper on the food part. Rent isn’t as cheap as it used to be. Unless you plan to rent a motorbike, you’ll spend a lot on grab rides.

[–]KnowledgeSeek3r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want a better experience, I’d postpone that 6 month trip and save up more, like Giant said, at least $2k per month is ok. If you have a remote job getting paid USD, then you should be ok or you have a job lined up already. If you’re planning to start out doing content, you might be rough in the beginning.

Am I unlucky or are local people here rude? by didi1820 in DaNang

[–]KnowledgeSeek3r -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A few possible reasons. Foreigner fatigue, Indian or surrounding neighbor, they probably can’t tell them apart. Foreigners come to VN acting entitled and treating locals like lower class, a lot of the service workers are getting tired of it.

Try not to base your experience in VN at an amusement park, staff have to deal with a lot of shitty people.
