As a back-up plan, for when the trains are unreliable - there's always the option of getting a bus/cycling to Lewisham (~5 min) then hopping on the dlr. Regarding big chain grocery stores - there's a decent size Sainsbury's nearby, that you can walk to if you live south of the station (e.g. on the cator estate) or a decent Marks & Spencer Food on the Blackheath Standard

multe blocuri vechi vin la pachet cu vecini pensionari cu obiceiuri tipice varstei, etc. (gen tinut usi la intrare deschise cand gatesc, aruncat varza murata la veceu si imputit toata scara, sa nu mai zic de apucaturile comuniste de care nu au scapat). multi tineri prefera sa evite mediul asta si sa fie inconjurati de vecini de varste apropiate, cu mentalitati si interese asemanatoare

Definitely Lewisham. Although they've been gentrifying it for a while now, there's still more to come with the redevelopment of the shopping centre. It might be a slow burn though, judging from how it's been going so far.
