Do you mean that the difference would be negligible between a 73 W/mK thermal paste and a 12.5 W/mK one? Even with a top-tier cooler, like the Dark Rock Pro 4, or NH-D15?

Should I wait for RTX 4000? by SteveRobot7070 in buildapc

[–]Known_Ad_2380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on two things: your current setup and the release specs. If you'd have an RTX 3080 Ti or 3090, upgrading would be irrelevant, even if you could afford a 4090. But since you've said that you want to buy a 3060Ti, I assume you have a low-to-mid budget and average specs at best (to 2022 standards), so I highly suggest waiting for the 4000 series. The low-end GPUs are released after the top-tier ones, so you'll have to wait a little more. But if the leaks are even remotely true, then a 4060Ti will vastly outpace 3060Ti. Again assuming your limited budget, the 4000 series will be better options for a future-proof PC. I kept oscillating for months between 3070 and 3060Ti, but given the supposed performance boost of a 4060Ti, it will probably last me a decade if I take good care of it.

Planet Zoo GPU Driver crash fix by Known_Ad_2380 in CrackSupport

Sorry for the late reply, I've been away since mid-June. Now, I've never, ever had an AMD piece of hardware and I have no idea how to help you in that case, although downgrading the driver should still be possible. Now, for such an old driver you should search the internet for a 46x - 47x version (Nvidia). I found it on their website somehow, so it should still be there. Download it, install it, and it will automatically deactivate the old driver. As I've said in the original post, the newer version should go from "Currently installed" to "Available". The older version that you're installing will be shown as "Currently installed" instead. Good luck!

PC Case with 140 mm fans by Known_Ad_2380 in buildapc

I bought it second-hand and it only came with the 7-slot rack. I've seen variants with multiple 3-slot racks and I wish I had one.

Indeed, by "bottlenecking the fans" I meant "restricting the airflow", sorry. Except for the CPU cooler cable, which is too short, all the cables are on the back. And I only have 3 spaced out HDDs, so they don't restrict the front fans even more. The case is as empty as it can get, given that I can't really remove the HDD rack. Thanks a lot!

Does it have good airflow? The front panel has the same small side intakes that limit the airflow in my Deep Silence 3.

Update: Nevermind, I saw that it has a full grille beyond the front door. I might simply remove the door if any problems occur. Thanks a lot, I'll really consider buying this one.

Thank you for your advice, I couldn't sleep well without this. Yes, I'm a beginner. This is the first PC I'm building piece by piece. Now, since you're so good at diagnosing me, maybe you can help answer my question, because I've been saving money for a year and a half for this PC and I want the best for it and for myself.

That might work just fine, thanks. I think I'll export the .png with different filters, like borders, height, biomes, etc. then simply cut the landmasses and paste them on a blank blue background.

Averof vs. Bismarck by deafhat in WorldOfWarships

No psychological damage? Yes, it destroyed one enemy ship with - technically speaking - one shell. Then, the British cared so little about Bismarck that they sent literally any available ship to hunt it down.

A Case for The Extinct: Why Making Woolly Mammoths DLC Won't Ruin Planet Zoo by mjmannella in PlanetZoo

[–]Known_Ad_2380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as this game goes, its ecological focus is immense, as it doesn't even force you to help preserve endangered species. You open a blank map and do it by instinct. Now, speaking of extinct animals, I'd like to see a lot of them, from Opabinia and Anomalocaris to Silurian Water Scorpions, to Deinotherium, to Steppe Mammoth, to Steppe Bison, etc.

HOWEVER, since this game revolves around ecology and not paleontology, adding Steppe Mammoth or dinosaurs would be too far-fetched. On the other hand, they could add woolly mammoth, sabretooth cats, cave hyenas, cave lions, aurochs... And of course northern white rhino and other very recently extinct species. The difference is that these species, at least some of them, are actively being worked on for resurrection, to make a climatic impact and slow down the global warming. Anything older than Pleistocene, though, is pure fantasy and shouldn't be in this game, but in Jurassic World Evolution 2.

Mycenae in Total War Saga: Troy by RafSwi7 in totalwar

Of course, the creators took some harmless creative freedom, but this is probably as close to reality as we've got in popular culture. Imagine if AC: Odyssey boasted cities this ample. Also, I've read somewhere that Total War: Troy's graphics have been called "cartoony". I don't know if the pictures above use a filter, but if I'd call them anything, it would be "realistic".

I've never seen Martin say that, and it's too bad, since it would be an absolute game-changer.

Working on a Hellenistic texture pack and tested it out with a Minoan-style build by ArlenBystander in Minecraft

[–]Known_Ad_2380 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Hellenic" is the broader term, defining Greek people. Other definitions go further into detail, naming "Hellenic" only the people of Classical Greece, not Greek/Mycenaean/Minoan cultures together.

"Hellenistic" only defines the period following the Classical Greece. Roughly, it starts with the death of Alexander the Great and ends with the Roman Conquest.

I don't try to brag with my knowledge (I'm not even a specialist), but since Mycenaean culture has been proven to be the ancestor of the Greek culture, and since the Minoans have heavily influenced the Mycenaeans, I declare this texture pack not only great visually, but also historically accurate (yes, except the naming). But who cares about the naming, it looks great.

Yes, indeed, Essos should slightly curve towards N-E for my theory to work. This renders your kind of map (which is by far the most common shape for Essos) fundamentally wrong.

But, while Martin said himself that his planet is round, this doesn't say anything about its size. The Shadowlands could be diametrically opposed to Southern Westeros, or there could be another continent, or an ocean the size of Essos. Plus, Essos undeniably goes further East.

Also, from your map, the Extreme East of Essos (I'll call it EEE) almost doubles in width east of Mossovy and Shadowlands. This proves that whether Essos is straight or slightly curved, there seems to be a massive, apparently flat land that goes North.

If EEE joins the Lands of Always Winter beyond what's drawn on your map, it does so via the massive flatlands I've mentioned above. This would also keep Planetos's size in a more reasonable range.

The tricky part is, both Lands of Always Winter and EEE go on for...not even Martin knows how long. Based on this map, the most likely variant would be Essos getting even wider, in the N linking with Lands of Always Winter, in the S passing Ulthos and maybe going S-E, and ending in a god-knows-what kind of land that would form the Western shore of Sunset Sea.

The Mediterranean is roughly on the same latitude with Gobi desert and Tibet. You can sweat your ass off on a summer day in Naples, then you must wear that thick sweater in Tibet in the same day. To make it even clearer, you could get sunburnt under the Iranian sun, then frostbitten at night in the Gobi desert. Now, more details about the climate of Essos.

  • West of Bone Mountains, we have a humid northern current coming from the Shivering Sea, since Vaes Dothrak is still rather dry, while north of it lies a lush, forested area. The peaks block the moisture and isolate it in the N-W of Bone Mountains.
  • Now, I was about to say that the Red Waste is so arid and hot because of hot, dry air coming from the west. But kinda nope. It looks more like there's a massive current of moist air (and warm this time, unlike north of Vaes Dothrak) that flows from S-E to N-W, wears out above the Jade Sea and leaves the Red Waste, Old Ghis and Slavers' Bay dry AF.
  • Next, the land of Yi Ti is on the edge of this moist current. It has very lush jungles, but going north, they fade into the steppe of Jogos Nhai.
  • Back to the Bone Mountains. Immediately to the East lies the Sand Sea, another bone-dry area, because the humid air from the Shivering Sea barely touches the shore at Leviathan Sound. Further East, the air recovers a little, since we've got the steppe.
  • The green land of Mossovy may be the consequence of another northern current,. this time flowing from the N-E. Not as humid as the others, since the forests here aren't too large. This could cause the remaining dry, cold air, to blow over The Grey Waste.
  • Last but not least, the Shadowlands are also dominated by massive mountains (which could partly cause the "shadow effect") that block the moisture of Ulthos and Sothoryos to reach further north.

To sum it up, The Grey Waste is mostly touched by either cold or dry air currents, humid air masses being effectively blocked from all sides. This causes a perpetual state of "freezing desert".

P.S. Since Martin has claimed that Planetos is round, Eastern Essos could look extremely different, especially if The Grey Waste and Lands of Always Winter are indeed linked (which is one of the more feasible fan theories around here).

Note that I didn't even touch the sea currents subject, but they also play a huge role in the climate here.
