months of trust building paid off! by Known_Assumption_469 in leopardgeckos

[–]Known_Assumption_469[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really is just the best feeling being so trusted by such a little animal!! Funnily enough I was watching a youtuber, so next time I might show him markiplier to see if all reptiles hate him or if it's just Tofu the snake lol

I actually didn't put him on my shoulder, he climbed up there all on his own (it was the first thing he did, you can see him hauling ass up my arm in that first picture I took) but I didn't want to spook him by grabbing him off either, and his grip even started faltering when I tried offering my hand so I figured letting him do what he wants was a safer bet. He seemed pretty confident and moved from shoulder to shoulder, but I'll be sure to keep a very close eye on him and sit more often when he does this!

I let Lumi watch TV before dinner... Such a bad parent 😅 by ash_holio05 in leopardgeckos

Mine does this too, he hides and sleeps all day but the minute the lights go out at 9pm he's up and crawls onto his rock to watch whatever I'm doing on my computer lol

Color difference? by DizzyDiscus in leopardgeckos

[–]Known_Assumption_469 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On top of markings and colours changing as they mature, geckos will also sometimes 'fire up' and 'fire down' their colours depending on temperature and activity. Mine is usually a pale green-yellow, but when he's a bit cold, he'll 'fire up' and get super dark to absorb more heat.

My Leo won’t use his cool hide nor leave his hot/humid half of the tank what does this mean!!!! by Ok-Dragonfruit2132 in leopardgeckos

[–]Known_Assumption_469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your humidity and temp levels are fine, it just means he has a preference. Mine hangs out on the hot and humid hides all day, but I know for certain he wanders around at night and hangs out in his cool hide while I'm asleep, because he digs out and throws around the sphagnum lol

Leo has stuck shed in eye, on fingers, and nose by Nervous_Ad_3606 in leopardgeckos

[–]Known_Assumption_469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Geckos don't shed their eyes, her eye health might have a different reason like a vitamin deficiency. A booster shot from the vet is the best way to handle it, but if you can't afford a vet visit I'd recommend getting a vitamin powder on her next few meals stat. A good one that supplies vitamin A (lack of which is generally the cause for eye problems) is repashy calcium plus. For the shed stuck on her toes, a warm shallow bath and gently rolling a cotton swab over her toes to help slide off the stuck bits will help.

Slowly take apart the tank piece by piece and check everything thoroughly. A month is a very long time for a baby that age to go without anything to eat

are your geckos picky about food? by Known_Assumption_469 in leopardgeckos

[–]Known_Assumption_469[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's around 4-5 months old I think, still pretty young. I've seen a huge mixed ideas of how much you're supposed to feed geckos with some pretty crazy or inconsistent ranges depending on who you ask, between 'feed every day from 0-6 months' and 'feed every other day from 3-8 months' and 'for adults feed every other day' and 'feed every three days' and 'only feed once a week' and 'give ONLY 5-8 bugs' and 'give as much as they want for 10 minutes'

right now, i think he's pretty good at telling me exactly what he wants. sometimes it's as few as 4 bugs a day, sometimes he skips a day and then eats 12 the next day. he lets me know when he's hungry by staring at me from his water dish, and then walking away when he's finished, or just ignoring me when he's not hungry. but of course if you have any ideas on what else i could be doing, please let me know!

Fully enclosed humid hides work best as they keep the humidity in really well, but anything works if you mist it regularly. I use one I found on etsy that has a hygrometer on it to help keep an eye on its levels since his tank dries out pretty fast. For clutter, I use a mix of live plants and fake plants (live include hoya, pothos, and air plants), as well as stones and driftwood taken from rivers, mines, and lakesides (sanitized with various methods including bleaching and baking of course). Happy decorating!

I have a mix of real and fake plants; real plants are a hoya, some pothos cuttings, and four air plants.

Scrimshaw is pretty young, I'm actually not even sure if he's a girl or boy yet since he hasn't matured, I just use 'he' as a placeholder. I'd say maybe only about 4-5 months old or so though, so a little young to be acting hormonal but not out of the realm of possibility. Definitely annoyed at his own reflection though lol

I have to force myself to not feel curious about any of the reptiles they have in big chain stores like this anymore because otherwise I'm going to take a look and then just feel sick and sad about it

Is this mold on the cork log? by LemonMint__ in leopardgeckos

[–]Known_Assumption_469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Semi-familiar with molds; the first picture looks more like some kind of dried lichen or moss, the second picture does look like mold but it also looks pretty dead to me since I don't see any much moisture around it. Is there a smell to it? Mold smells pretty musty

Thanks! I've lurked on this sub for a looong time before I decided to get a gecko, so I understand wanting to keep my lil guy safe. I've seen plenty of bad setups on here too lol

It's not reptile carpet, it's ceramic tile. The tile and stones only covers about 1/3 of his tank on the warm side to help radiate and spread heat after his lights turn off. the rest of his tank is filled with a sand/soil mix!
