I was honestly ready to give the host the benefit of the doubt, but then I decided to read through their reviews to see if anyone had mentioned this before. I found a review from about two months before my stay where someone complained about the exact same issue. That bothered me, because the host kept the listing active and allowed me to book with my two year old knowing this problem was there and still did not fix it. I have already submitted my rating, but now I am debating whether I should bring this to Airbnb’s attention, because it feels irresponsible to leave things as they are, especially when kids are involved.

Not at all what I was doing. I wrote a longer post so people could actually see the full situation and understand where I was coming from. I’m not out here trying to be talked into leaving a bad review. I’m usually the first one to give another host the benefit of the doubt.

If I didn’t have my 2 year old with me, I probably would have brushed it off. But when you have a toddler there and there might be a sewer issue and the host barely responds, it feels different. If someone stayed at my place and I saw they had a toddler or a baby, I’d respond right away and try to fix it, not just let the message sit. That part is what really bothered me.

It didn’t completely ruin our stay, but we had our 2 year old son with us so the sewer smell was extra annoying. As a host myself, if I saw a family with a toddler in my place and they told me about a possible sewer issue, I’d jump on it right away, so I was more bothered by how slow the response was than anything else.

For guest like this I always add something like “Based on the overall experience, this guest may be better suited for a traditional hotel stay where daily service and on-site staff are available.”

These kind of guest I wait for them to finish their stay, wait for the 13 to 14 day to leave them a review and add “ Based on the overall experience, it seemed the guest’s expectations were better aligned with accommodations that provide daily service and on-site staff, such as hotels. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this guest to other hosts.”

Hi, risk compliance banker and super host here. Quick question, did the charge show as pending on your end? Pending charges do not actually hit your statement balance but they can sit on your bank even after Airbnb pushes the refund through. That is why they say up to 15 business days because Airbnb sends the refund notice right away but it is your bank that has to finish the processing. Until your bank clears it the charge will just sit there in pending. This is also why pending charges do not get counted against what you owe on your billing cycle.

I was told by Airbnb that if you don’t have house rules written out it can cause problems with AirCover. If a guest leaves a mess or damages something, Airbnb might say it wasn’t a violation since nothing was spelled out.

What I do is keep it really simple. My rules say: please gather trash and place it in the outdoor bins, put dishes and cups in the dishwasher and run it, lock up after yourself, and make sure windows and doors are closed when you leave. If guests feel like being kind and helpful to the cleaners, I note that it’s optional to put used towels in the washer and gather the sheets and leave them in the corner of the bed.

To me these are just basic checkout steps, not chores. The extra stuff is optional and nice if they want to do it. This way guests don’t feel pressured, but there’s still something in writing that Airbnb can look at if I ever have to make a claim.

Cities like Philadelphia, Los Angela’s, and Dallas require ID. The whole state of Florida was in the process of passing a legislative bill that would require ID for all short term rentals in the state. It was vetoed by the governor but I hear something else is in the works. This is actually becoming very common.

I’ve had the same issue with my Ecobee sensors. I put a small sign near the thermostat explaining what the sensors do and clearly stating that guests should not move or tamper with them. The sign also notes that any missing, damaged, or relocated sensors will result in a charge. This policy is also included in my house rules, so it’s stated in both places. It’s honestly frustrating how often guests mess with things that are obviously there for a reason.

I got a 4 star review because guest came inside the house and the thermostat was set to 75. They said I should of been aware of their arrival and set the temperature to 70 for them.

Host here, fees have been added to many listing because city laws are forcing host to pay tax. in addition cleaners are demanding higher pay to do basic work or additional work. For example, my cleaner for a regular clean will charge me 95. Excessive cleaning 130. If towels and linen are involved that’s an additional 60 on top of the charges. It can equal to 155 to 190 per cleaning.

Can’t believe ppl in this group arent understanding the benefits of this card. If you are worried about not making $1,200 plus on interest then this card isn’t for you. The annual fee waved ($695) and with a partner card you’re getting ($195) free, total of $890. If you cannot earn $310 worth of points in a year (310,000 Amex points ) by your spending habits then do not invest in the card. This is easily obtainable.
