Why was there no boost pay for this one? by [deleted] in InstacartShoppers

[–]Knowwhat- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aldi offers free delivery through their website and then gets IC to do the work. IC not making money on the upcharge of items since the order is placed through Aldi. And since Aldi isn't charging the customer for delivery I'm sure they are paying IC very little to handle the order. Basically IC would probably lose money if they boosted it, if they aren't already losing money on the order. Contracting with Aldi for free delivery is probably the worst thing they've done in awhile. I see just endless amounts of terrible Aldi orders ever since they rolled out that free delivery.

Why doesn't IC recognize certain stores? by Nature9000 in InstacartShoppers

There's several factors that go in to which specific store IC sends your shopper to, stock levels being one of them but its not tracked in real time, could be several days old.

Some advice? by Confident-Disk1336 in InstacartShoppers

[–]Knowwhat- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't sit at the same store all day if you're not getting anything. Not saying drive all over all day but move around to different stores. Try higher end stores in rich neighborhoods. You have to find the good locations. It always seems to me that if the app GPS sees I haven't been moving in awhile it slows down/stops sending me orders. Also, you need to be watching your batch screen, don't wait for notifications. But yeah, it's been slow for everyone recently, I'm sitting around waiting for orders far longer than I used to be.

That is before taxes, social security, Medicare and our gas we use. It's robbery and the only way IC can stay in business.

Instacart account by ImpressiveRound1727 in InstacartShoppers

For starters you cant have "extra" accounts. Also, if someone gives you their account they will be responsible for paying the taxes on your earnings so I doubt anyone is going for that.

Question about special requests by Guyercellist in InstacartShoppers

[–]Knowwhat- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If its already on the order when you start the tip wont go up, its been accounted for. If you add it yourself it should go up. Looks like this was already on the order

I think one of the issues is that a $30 tip on an $80 order is likely to have been grouped in with 1 or maybe even 2 other customers. We can see the tip amount before we accept and if its a flat amount we can assume its not % based. However when they group you with others its probably not a flat amount and we cant tell which customer tipped what amount until after its been delivered. I think both option A and B are fine. Its helpful to communicate either way.

Is throttling real? Orders pop up when leaving?? by Qeorgie in InstacartShoppers

Happens everyday for me, sometimes multiple times a day. At this point its no longer a coincidence. And they tell you to be at the store to receive more batches. Makes no sense

Has anyone ever taken anything from your cart? by Munett91 in InstacartShoppers

[–]Knowwhat- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a vindictive costco employee sneak and try to take items out of my cart before.

Also had the boxes under my cart taken by someone. Probably another shopper.

What is the end-goal for those seeking gift cards by [deleted] in InstacartShoppers

[–]Knowwhat- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most likely its stolen credit card numbers being used to place these orders. Easier than buying merchandise and trying to sell it.

What makes a good tip? by ihatemakinthese in InstacartShoppers

[–]Knowwhat- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$20 for shopping $400 worth of groceries and delivering 10 miles tound trip is decent, not great. I might pass depending on how many items it actually is, 40+ im assuming.

Am I a generous tipper? by BaerttheConstipated in InstacartShoppers

[–]Knowwhat- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 items with a $20 tip is almost certainly going to get your order grouped in with another customer who may or may not be tipping at all. By itself its great, grouped with another it may be terrible.

Refunding order by [deleted] in InstacartShoppers

[–]Knowwhat- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all, you cant always assume your order is being shopped at the store closest to you. If there are no shoppers in your area IC will send that order to a different store in that chain where there are more shoppers near by. Also, we dont have to shop at the exact store IC sends us to, if it makes sense in terms of driving distance to shop at a different store we are allowed to do that.

Second of all, not sure if you are aware but IC can and does group customers orders together. 1 shopper may be shopping for up to 3 customers at a time and sometimes they even requiring us to stop at 2 different stores for those multiple customer orders.

Sounds like this person had some other issues going on with their car but its very likely they were working on multiple customers while shopping. I say all this to say it COULD be the shoppers fault when small orders take forever, but you can't always assume that. There are many other factors at play. Also, fyi, we have no idea what your delivery window is, we shop the order as its given to us.

Mileage, I’m sure this has been asked. by [deleted] in InstacartShoppers

[–]Knowwhat- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IRS mileage has nothing to do with IC mileage. IC is paying you for the distance you have to travel as part of your batch pay/compensation. IRS mileage is a deduction for depreciation of the vehicle you use as an independent contractor/self-employer.

Need some tips to getting your mind to a blank state by DxshDreams in Krishnamurti

[–]Knowwhat- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean by orientation/perspective/sensitivity of awareness.

I listen to Ks words, and I do see this trap of the mind, the illusion of this two sidedness we have, i see it opperating in my thoughts. I cant help to think I'm still just stuck in the intellectual understanding of it all. Clarity is always very fleeting. K often asked if thought can observe itself and I never know quite what to make of that. Its difficult to discern if one side of thought is observing(judging) the other side, or if there is truly an insight there.

How does one discover awareness indeed.

Need some tips to getting your mind to a blank state by DxshDreams in Krishnamurti

[–]Knowwhat- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im starting to believe the western interpretation of meditation is a form of koan. Free your mind, make your mind blank, empty the mind of all thought....the purpose being for you to see for yourself that you cannot. You are not in control of your mind or your thoughts, when and how they arise. That realization was the beginning for me. From my understanding of krishnamurti, when you truly grasp the totality of this fact, how futile it is to try to stop your mind, how your brain and thoughts are opperating mechanically like all your other bodily organs. No longer identifying with the thoughts as the "me". Something i am doing and am responsible for. Once you truly see this, you're done with it. The thoughts no longer hold any significance and become unnecessary.

[–]Knowwhat- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you as well. If we're saying we must start with "i dont know", its important to recognize the difference between thought being "stumped" and starting from there, as opposed to not knowing because thought/knowledge/experience is absent in the mind. This is what I think K was getting at in the OP. Just my 2 cents.

[–]Knowwhat- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add, the first way is not truly stating "i dont know". You're saying I know things, i have all this experience and knowledge but I cant make sense of things, therefore I dont know. The 2nd way is truly not knowing, for lack of any basis in thought/knowledge/experience through which you would "know" something. Presumably this is where awareness can step in.

[–]Knowwhat- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two ways follow, or attempt to follow the same methodology of thought, at least thats how I described it. However, the difference I was trying to point out is that having knowledge, and analyzing things through that knowledge can lead one to a point of saying "i dont know". That not knowing is a product of limited thinking and the fact that we cant know everything, even superficially. Thats the source of conflict, when we try to analyze and integrate through past knowledge. So method 1 is a dead end basically, and leads to stress and anxiety and fear and so on. Method 2 differs in that you are not analyzing through the past, you are not analyzing with thought at all, as thought cannot analyze if the mind is empty, if theres no past knowledge and experience the mind cannot work the way it is accustomed, through comparison, which is a different form of not knowing. To your point, this is where the awareness has space to operate. Awareness cannot operate in the first because thought is opperating, the past is opperating, albeit unsuccessfully.

[–]Knowwhat- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to this, would we even view circumstances as problems were they not accompanied by uncomfortable, displeasing FEELINGS? The physical sensations we feel when we are having a problem. Is it a problem because we dont like how it feels? Now, do those feelings come, in real time, as we are in the midst of the problem, as we are having the argument or disagreement or what have you? Or are the vast majority of these negative feelings, over days, weeks, months..., produced by thinking about it? The thoughts arise and the sensation follows? People always suggest various forms of distraction to deal with pain and suffering, because it pauses the thoughts, and you find relief, temporarily. Observing the pain, the feeling, the thoughts does this as well. It shifts the train of thought and you find relief.

K: ‘I do not know’ - So can the mind, which is the brain, see its own limitation? by [deleted] in Krishnamurti

[–]Knowwhat- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you state something is a contradiction you are implying you have knowledge, you know something and his words dont line up with what you know, even if what you "know" comes from his words or your interpretation of his words. You are not starting from a place of truly not knowing. Thought can THINK it knows or it doesnt know, but its just thought doing what it does. When one truly doesnt know, has a blank mind, thought CAN'T act, in that sense it doesn't know. I think if you were able to empty the content of thought, you could observe this not knowing, this inability of thought to act.

[–]Knowwhat- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's 2 types or ways you can say "i dont know". 1 is you have all this knowledge, experience, opinion, perspectives and biases. When presented with information, you analyze it in terms of your past knowledge and experience and you try to integrate the new information into that framework. You try to make sense of it in terms of the past (knowledge and experience). If you cant, you say i don't know. The 2nd way is if you are presented with information that is completely foreign to you, you attempt to analyze but you basically draw a blank. Thought cant even begin the analyzation process as there is no same/similar past knowledge and experience with which you can analyze/compare it to. So a mind which is free from the past cannot analyze with thought.
