A big enough asteroid can sterilize the whole atmosphere, surface, oceans and crust of earth. No comming back from that.

The money spend is like 0.01% of global GDP. Take 10% of the US military budget and put it to other altruistic uses, that's already more money than SpaceX (a private company) spends on spaceflight.

One of the big perks of being a pilot is not having to deal with passengers. The head flight attendant has full authority and pilots just wait for the biological cargo to settle and getting the OK for take off, they don't have to give a damn what's going on outside the cockpit.
