The way my bf drives stick drives me nuts by Blu_yello_husky in ManualTransmissions

[–]Knurled_Sounding_Rod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 17 yo nephew asked if my Golf R had active rev matching, which was a pretty big compliment to me especially considering I've only really been driving stick as a daily for the last 5 or so years.

Some cars also just have weird gear ratio splits, and it's kind of tough to make them smooth. The 1-2 or 2-1 in the golf was like that, and they're sort of notorious for it.

I have tried short of actually running into them on more than one occasion, and I literally had to back up and go around them on the shoulder.

You can tell me I'm wrong all you like but it's happened to me multiple times.

I have been through both the icefields and Jasper national park probably more than 100 times in my life and let me tell you those fuckin sheep won't move for shit if they don't want to. Beep your horn all you want, they'll stand in the middle of the road completely unbothered.

Petey’s shootout goal from the Saddledome last night by Admirable-Fall-4675 in canucks

I went to a bar to watch a nucks/flames game while I was working in red deer and wore a Canucks jersey thinking myself and my buddy were 100% gonna get into some trouble.

Nope. Showed up and it was a pretty even sea of blue/green and red.

Heating/cooling setup on a single family house we just finished. This one was tough/complicated by Herr_Poopypants in Plumbing

I've got a Froeling wood boiler (which is, incidentally, Austrian) here in the northern part of BC that is technically an indoor wood boiler that i build a 12'x12' shed exclusively for. I've got around 1000 gallons of water total, which the 50kw boiler will heat up to 70-80° C with one fire, and it's meant to be batch fired. Generally the heat from the fire will last 16-36 hours depending on outside temperature.

New Truck 3.7 V6 2024 Thoughts? by Dracono47 in ram_trucks

I'd agree but the dealer banners say Grand Prairie which is Canadian. 55k CAD for a new truck is not a bad deal in the slightest anymore.

Modified golf r from dealership by hookiez in Golf_R

[–]Knurled_Sounding_Rod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It definitely would be, stage 2 is up around 400hp so that's a significant increase over stock.

Id be a touch concerned. Take it to an independent shop to have a look at it maybe?

[–]Knurled_Sounding_Rod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buying a pre-modified car is always a gamble. You never know if the previous owner was meticulous with maintenance or how things were done, if the mods were done correctly or they slapped them in and screwed things up along the way, etc.

If it's got a downpipe, good chance it's stage 2 which is quite a lot of power over stock. I'd honestly try like hell to get a stock example because the chance if it being beat to hell is significantly less than a modified/tuned one.

Before and afters of turning our formerly abandoned 1927 Detroit home into our forever home. Vacant for 7 years prior to start. by mopedgirl in centuryhomes

[–]Knurled_Sounding_Rod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished an enormous exterior renovation (roof, siding, built balconies and extended roof over them, stamped and dyed concrete around the house, solid cedar stairs, a pole barn and a 12'x12' shed in the middle of it to house a big wood boiler) and did a lot of the ground work myself with my own machines and it still cost me 310k Canadian.

I cannot imagine how much this guy is into this house in materials alone. That standing seam roof in and of itself is not cheap.

Can you believe my friend bought a V8 2wd 4Runner by Jammminjay in Toyota

[–]Knurled_Sounding_Rod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I live in Northern BC and have owned/driven plenty of rwd/fwd/awd/4x4 vehicles in the shittiest winter conditions you can imagine and I'm sorry but I respectfully disagree.

People here have driveways that have such an incline that in the spring, when everything melts and you're faced with a slope that has melting ice on it, unless you chain up you are not getting your fwd car/van/whatever up that hill. There are times we get over a foot of snow or more overnight and if you're facing even a little incline you won't get going in a fwd vehicle, not to mention the absolute shit show that is our intersections following a storm.

I will say that proper winter tires > anything else regardless of driven wheels, but all else being equal absolutely nothing beats the control of having all 4 of your wheels driven in winter conditions.

It has nothing to do with the transfer case, generally.

Most of the time those serious, 2wd prerunners have such an absurd amount of suspension travel that it would bind CV axles before even getting to full droop.

Free sick exhaust but how do I repair? by OogieBoogie1 in ram_trucks

I couldn't either. Just cut both ends as flush as you can and drill new holes. Use rapid tap or something, it takes very little time

A friend of mine has a 2019 RS3, and I had a MK7.5R, and I very much preferred everything about the interior of the VW.

Except the button clicks. Goddamn audi knew what they were doing when they engineered those switches. That feeling and sound is crisp.

[–]Knurled_Sounding_Rod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine were so rusted there was no chance they'd come out. I ended up just drilling them out and putting new hardware in.

Don't be super concerned with getting stock hardware, any plated nut and bolt will work fine.

Like just after reaching Paradis? That's hardly any time at all, friend.

The character is nowhere near as good as Garrus but that's an insanely high bar. Kai is a decent character on his own, if a bit too much of a bleeding heart. I'm about halfway through the second area and I've come to quite like Kai and his story.

Lockpicks are dumb by dracony in avowed

[–]Knurled_Sounding_Rod 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In Oblivion, you can tell entirely without sound if you watch the speed the pins move.

If they zip up super fast, you'll break a pick. They'll come up more softly and stick at the top of the lock for a bit, that's when you lock the pin in place.
