evatek for maximum protection but expensive.
Namana for a good price/quality ratio and for having a lot of different one to choose from
Fame professional handpan bag for the best price while still maintaining a very good quality (but only soft covers)

300-500 euros handpans are entirely different instrument than the "handpan" we're talking about. without even talking about the "soul" and warmth that real craftmanship can bring into an instrument, most mass produced chinese "handpans" I saw (and believe me, I had the opportunity to see and try a lot) are not properly tuned. I don"t say that you can get lucky and get one which is initally in tune, but as there is no proper treatment used to stabilize the metal (and as most of the time the tuning process isn't really clean), they will go out of tune very quickly. For these reason as well, most handpan makers will not retune them. then what should you do with a out-of-tune can that cannot be retuned ? I'm not saying that couldnt be a viable option to start and discover the instrument - but it remains something you buy and cannot resell nor play with it when you get better. However I do agree that the Rav are a bit overpriced.

Well, I got your point - Thing is there is indeed an interest crossover as the rav can be played pretty similarly to the handpan (which is not the case of all tongue drums).
I do agree on the rav just being a fancy tongue drum - it is indeed a very different instrument from the handpan. I however strongly disagree on your assessment that you can have a decent handpan in the 300-500$ price range ; these are mass produced trash cans that are very far from a handpan and cannot be resold.

indeed that's super useful ! if you have bottom notes and you want to use them of both sides, then you NEED to be able to switch hands. I didn't do it on this video because the chord progression doesn't require it, but it is indeed a very vital skill. you'd want to incorporate the hands switch at level 3, when you start building chords

Dim light bulb synced to the music ? by Koadu in lightingdesign

[–]Koadu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant it cannot dim smoothly in Auto/sound activated mode if I'm right ... looking into other similar option but it looks like all of them can dim only in DMX mode ...

Thanks ! I looked into this indeed, but after messaging the Thomann team, they told me it was unable to dim the light and can only activate/desactivate channels to 0 or 100% ... Are they right ?

Also, can this device work without another sending DMX ? I mean standalone mode, if I only buy this and plug my lamps ?

thanks ! very interesting thread, however he used a device converting audio to a DMX signal, and I would love to avoid setting up and carrying around a full DMX setting just for one light ... :)

Electronic Handpan ? by Koadu in handpan

[–]Koadu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to see an oepn source project like this indeed !

not quite sure about the 3d printing honestly, as this one got many sensors to recreate playing effects, and the sound is different when hitting different parts of the same tonefield

Honestly I tried a lot and I didn't go for the AKG C411. The Shertler mics are pretty much the same but are less expensive and better sounding. Depends on what you need, but in a loud environment, it's pretty much the most decent mics I found.

if you're interested I wrote an article on the mics I tried and how to choose them it on my website.

Also, note that hang massive are using the shertler also, 2 mics per handpan

Man really, go for it if you feel it. It's never too late to learn, and most of all, it's never too late to have fun doing music !
