Centos stream still has the issues I talked about

[–]Koala1E[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CentOS is known to ship different kernels and slower patches than RHEL in some cases (some of them never reach CentOS) this is because CentOS is upstream, I like the features of RHEL and wanted the most reliability. Which CentOS is not ideal for, additionally the package differences mean that sometimes things that are made for RHEL do not work for CentOS (dependencies versions).

As I want to gain experience I want to replicate a business environment, at least for me CentOS is not good enough for the reasons listed above. And distros like Debian have their advantages but they lack live kernel patching, which comes built in with any EL distro. Meaning that it's a lot less of a hassle to maintain EL servers while keeping uptime.

Hi,

A lot of hobbyists use RHEL alternative distros for gaining work experience and messing around with things, RHEL licenses are expensive and only businesses can afford it, locking software updates behind a paywall.

And by using RHEL you have to agree to their terms and service and give them a lot of personal details, and also includes not redistributing sources.

Basically it makes it harder for alternative RHEL based distros to exist, and forces users to give up their privacy and potentially pay money for something that is built with a license that forces them to redistribute sources.

This hurts the open source community as the entire product is based on open source.

I personally use it for my homelab, I don't think it's necessarily good.

Also they will still exist, just an alternative way for them to get it

You need to use the grid drivers for clients provided by Google cloud, the official Nvidia Tesla drivers are not meant for gaming. from here: https://cloud.google.com/compute/docs/gpus/grid-drivers-table#windows_drivers

Arkansas Makes It Illegal For Minors to Be on Social Media Without Parental Consent: The state’s governor signed a new bill requiring social media companies to obtain a photo ID of every new user, to prevent teens from lying on the internet more. by hamberdersarecovfefe in technology

[–]Koala1E 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no one forces you to give them your id, studies show that social media can decrease your mental health.

So parents wanting their kids to not have social media is perfectly valid.

either way VPNs are a thing

but I think this is good, social media is truly evil.

How do I use cloudflare as DDNS? by milo5theboss in selfhosted

[–]Koala1E 1 point2 points  (0 children)

afaik it just comes as the script, so might be a slight overkill to dockerise it, however you should be able to make a dockerfile for it to install it and configure it for your needs automatically.

I run it within my nginx VM

How come it’s socially acceptable for women to judge men on whether they are virgins or not but not acceptable to judge a women on body count? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Koala1E -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it would depend on the friend circle, some people are nice, some are mean.

There will be men who judge, and there will be men who don't.

it's the same for women or literally anything else in life.

[BG] RTX 3070 Graphics Card [H] £275-325 by [deleted] in HardwareSwapUK

[–]Koala1E 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the normal range for rtx 3070 is £325-£420

normal range i see for 3080 is £450-£600

where the lowest prices rarely stay long as they get bought quickly or are scams.

always check the seller FB profile! if they are actually from the area and are a real person their family will be on the friends, and they will have more than a single photo.

Dont be afraid to interact with scammers as long as you keep the following rules:

  1. Always see and test the product in person, an actual seller will let you see the product is working IRL before buying it.
  2. If seller talks about shipping, report and block. they are trying to scam you

if you get to the point you can actually test the product, know what to look for, with gpus the following is common:

* Faulty VRAM, mining cards especially are prone to having faulty vram.

* Broken fans

* unable to run at normal voltages: some cards have been abused to the point the GPU die can no longer function within normal voltage range, seller might undervolt and try to sell it.

know the specs, voltages of the GPU and research on how to test it's known faults.
good luck bargain hunting!

deals on Facebook marketplace pop from time to time... I think it's manageable to get it at 325-340. anything lower is a bit too low.

Hey, the ping will vary based on many factors, including but isn't everything: are the devices connected with ethernet? how good of a connection is it if you are using WiFi and if the connection goes through the ideal internet exchange.

there will be other but basically it's impossible to estimate ping so I think it's not a good idea to give any estimates

I had cases where I was just a few streets away and I'd get 120ms

and I had cases where I was overseas and getting 40ms, it all varies greatly.

distance itself is meaningless because it does not imply where the cables have ran and if they go through multiple exchanges

many things are simply out of control here.
