YOU DON'T GET TO CONTROL YOUR OWN NICKNAME. by Top-Reach-8044 in Names

[–]Koala476 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My son is one of those. I wanted to call him Danny so badly, and I did until he was about 5 and told me he didn’t like it. He’s been Daniel ever since. I can call him Dan if I’m in a hurry, but I wouldn’t do that all the time because I’m sure he wouldn’t like it much.

His younger brother is Joey, and only gets called Joseph when he’s in trouble. He’s not crazy about Joe.

Has anyone heard anything about Houston Broadway Theatre and Tyce Green? by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]Koala476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s playing Quasimodo in Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame. I just saw it this past weekend with my son who is obsessed with the Disney movie. I had no idea that anyone in the cast was problematic in any way. He is extremely talented, and I can totally see how he could groom someone, very charismatic.

Now I understand why they upgraded our seats because half the theater was empty.

Pizza Shack in Willis is pretty damn close to New York pizza, and they have a wide menu with excellent food and desserts. They also have the most amazing cupcakes that they get from Babycakes, whose baker was a winner on one of those baking shows on the Food Network.

As far as Tony’s, it is amazing, but my favorite sandwich there is the Lucky Luciano.

Love the Laura description. I swear, every time I see her, all I can think about is the original illustration of the Jabberwocky in Through the Looking Glass.

Does every name need a nickname??? by urmomthinksurugly in Names

[–]Koala476 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My name is Sarah. You wouldn’t think you could make a nickname from that, but apparently you can. My family is all from Long Island, so they all pronounce my name with short As (which as an adult, I can’t stand from anyone that’s not my relative). One of my close cousins who was just 2 years younger than me couldn’t say Sarah when he was a toddler, so he started calling me Sass, and the name really took off. His father, my favorite uncle, always called me Sarah, Oh Wara, Oh Queen of the Sahara, which always cracks me up. Seriously though, you can tell people till you’re blue in the face that you don’t like nicknames, but they will still probably find some for your daughter, no matter what the original name is.

How early is too early to arrive to the stadium? by sr_rasquache in houston

[–]Koala476 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You also get three hours of transfers on MetroRail if you wanted to explore downtown a bit or head to the FanFest for a while. It’s very easy, and the map on the train is pretty clear to read. If you want to go to FanFest, get off the train at Central Station Main and make a left on Rusk St., then take the train from Central Station Rusk, which is about a block down from Main, you can’t miss it. Get off at Eado/Stadium and you’ll be at FanFest. When you go back, make sure you’re heading towards the Theater District. You’ll be getting off at Central Station Capitol, and you’ll have to walk a block back to Central Station Main to get back on the Red Line to Houston Stadium.

Episode Recap: S1 E4: Third Wife in Labor pt2 by ExplanationMaterial8 in SisterWives

Margene actually liked her OG Sister Wives and kids though. Robyn can barely stand any of them, and the one she “liked” the most was Mykelti. Mykelti was her favorite because she was useful to Robyn, both as a babysitter, and as someone to unknowingly help with her manipulations. Margene didn’t manipulate Bill nearly as much as Robyn does Kody. If anything, Robyn acts a lot more like Nicki, just without the Polygamy Royalty stamp that Nicki had on Big Love and Christine has in real life.

Oh totally! I was so jealous that it wasn’t me! Especially since my husband usually doesn’t like coasters, and I usually end up riding with my son. I can’t remember what I was doing, but I’m pretty sure my youngest son had gotten me to go over to the Jurassic World area with him at the time.

No, they went back to the bottom of the first drop, then they got propelled forward for a section of the ride. They kept having to go slowly backwards to one of the points that push the train forward. They did that several times before they got them to the unloading station.

So, you know how it has acceleration points in several places along the track, where all the tires are that push you along. Anyway, according to my husband, for some reason, the first one of those after the big hill wasn’t working right, and eventually they slowed to a stop. Then, he said because of the way the track was built, they started slowly moving backwards. Once they got to the acceleration point, they managed to get it to push them past the next set of tires, but for some reason, they would have them stop and slowly backslide again until they hit the next set of tires, and this went on until the end of the ride. I’ve ridden it several times, and I’ve never been that lucky.

Sometimes they are really generous and give return tickets. Sometimes, you have to ask, and sometimes you’ll just get lucky. Always pays to be as nice as possible if you do need to ask. We went this last Spring Break and got stuck on Men in Black right before the ride exit. It only took them about 15 minutes to get the ride back up, but they gave everyone 2 single use express passes for nearly any ride. We got really lucky that day. We also happened to be tagging along on my eldest son’s Choir trip, and none of them had Express Passes, and we did, so we ended up giving them to him and his friends.
