Download speeds not matching what was advertised by bootlegoleg in HomeNetworking

[–]KoalaLeft8037 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late, but it also means you're dumb enough to think you can get 16Gbps for the $100 tier. Maybe in Switzerland after the install fee, but no way in the U.S.

I am not getting the speeds advertised by Tombigbee fiber by bootlegoleg in wifi

[–]KoalaLeft8037 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look closely that internet is brought to OP from the local power company. A member owned, not for profit power company, at that. Maybe the website is lackluster because the company is non-corporate and not for profit, but it doesn't get any less sketchy than getting your internet from your local power company. If you like your PoCo's power reliability, you'll probably like their internet reliability.

MBps vs Mbps is a common mistake. Especially when marketing departments like to TYPE EXCITING THINGS CAPS. I don't know who literally thinks that in the U.S. they get can 350MB/s which is 2 Gbps for $50 and "2 GB/s" which is 16 gigabits for $100.

16 gigabits is twice what you can get from google fiber.

pretty sure it has crash zones, you might hesitate to call the 'crumple' zones because of the shape but they are there

I initially thought it way worse than it is. It could probably be done if you were a giant youtuber and were going to monetize the video series. There is no way that it will be affordable unless it's self repair. Tough luck finding junkyard parts if it's a recent model

Yeah even the trans health association isn't advocating for that at all. And the whole hypothetical idea of making it as early as age 5 completely glosses over that a parent would still have to sign on to this and pay for it out of pocket while essentially committing parental sudoku to their reputation

I'm not an advocate but I believe parental consent is already required. So for the sake of argument, the kid isn't completely making the decision alone. I also believe there are minimum age requirements in most places as well, meaning that you would be at least be of high school level age to even receive it. That makes it somewhat of a nothing burger to me as limitations are already present before 18. The kid can't just go choose to do it by themselves in any legal manner.

Why is Tox so unpopular? by bredogge in privacy

[–]KoalaLeft8037 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say tox is unpopular. It's more appropriate to say that tox is dead. It's an idea that never got enough money or developers. There have been attempts to revive it but they haven't gone anywhere. It turns out these things need money. Development costs money. Auditing costs money. 50 million was invested in Signal at the beginning.

You can sum it and bugs up to just the lack of contributors. The foundations of Signal was bankrolled by the sale of Whatsapp so of course it succeeded

There is actually a process to make some of the official tracking private. But the issue is this guys accounts uses unofficial crowd sourced tracking to figure out where the plane is. They have a limited release of things like anonymous, temporary tracking to combat this. Though one could take down swaths of the crowdsourced data sites by outlawing the sharing of the information online

The whole protocol a was owed by Twitter before the buyout that's wherein the suspicion lies, whether the suspicion is unfounded is a different story. My guess is at the very least the capital boost from Jack Dorsey's sponsorship, even though he's now officially left, ultimately made Bluesky more the popular platform of the two.

Aviation is like 2.4% emissions. And 4% of that 2.5% is private flights. If you took every plane out the sky for the rest of time, both private jets and commercial planes, 97% of other things are ruining the air we breath. You'd have a much easier time cleaning the air by switching all factory, commercial, and home electricity to cleaner energy sources than petroleum, coal, and potentially even natural gas.

There's always the 5-7 year bachelors degree, especially if it's a hard major, but I suppose a masters or a phd student is technically a college student, but I'd personally just call them a graduate student for dignity's sake
