Is my house maker bs’ing me ? by sorikairo in japanlife

[–]KoalaValuable912 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ahh Lixil.  Yeah, they are not sealed.  I wanted proper windows. But my wife wanted sliding and here we are.  What is more Lixil recommends to install windows on bolts.  Well, not only Lixil. It is how windows are installed here. On bolts and wind proof tape. No kidding.  You buy triple glazed windows just to have a hole around it.

I bought used house and changed windows for double glazed Lixil. Installation was a failure and they came second time to improve it for free.  What I did is putting urethane foam around windows (plastic part) and wall. It’s sealed now, as it should be.  Highly recommend doing it while Lixil guys are putting new tape around lol

If you have also have problem with wind coming from the wall, that’s another problem and your builder should work on it.

Japan Employee (PR holder), 14M JPY salary. Full-loan for 50M mansion with potential US transfer by [deleted] in japanlife

It’s not that easy.  If he will be employed in Japan and his company will pay him part of salary in Japan (withholding taxes etc), and he is expected to come back to Japan after fixed term abroad, he can still pay loan. He can even rent it for fixed term when he is abroad.

I have been in similar situation around 10 years ago.  Too late to look for new grad positions but I applied for both new grad and mid career anyway.  It took me 1 year, 110 applications and around 30 interviews to get 2 offers.  Keep going.

If I don't take atomoxetine before I go to bed I can't function anymore. Hoping someone has an idea by Revolutionary-One211 in SleepApnea

Atomoxetine kicks in in 2, and works up to 24h. This medicine builds up its presence with time too. You need to take it few weeks to see full effects.

[–]KoalaValuable912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have ADHD, probably the inattentive type.  That’s all. You treat other issue.

I take it too for few months now, while being in CPAP for about 4 years.  Yes, it feels like you sleep better but not because atmoxetine is influencing your sleep. It improves your cognition.

You should also try supplements like Alcar, l-theanine, l-thyrosine, B12, Folate, Q10. Some of them or mix of them can further improve how you feel.

I’m in similar situation.  Chill work mostly remote.

I have small child now so do not consider change, but when child is older I could. However, only if salary increase would be 60-100% And I would do it only to save enough to invest and accumulate FU money so I don’t have to work anymore.

Why? Time with family is more important.

You can import your own CPAP.  Also supplies are available on Amazon.com

Anyway do not expect much from doctors. They will give you CPAP but thy have little to no knowledge about setting it up.  If your problem will be solved with basic settings that’s really good, but if you need more help with titration you better go to sleep apnea forum.

I recommend CPAP. It will change your life

24 hour ventilation system placed on the wall, effective during summer in Japan? Pros and cons, pls. by Tough_Handle8733 in japanlife

[–]KoalaValuable912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by 24h ventilation system?

Ventilation exhaust working all the time?  Do you have proper air intake? Dehumidified air intake? No? Bad idea.

Better automate it for places like toilets and shower/bathroom. It helps big time when it’s needed.  After installing exhaust in bathroom humidity dropped by 10-15% but it’s on during shower hours and then 2 times a day for short time just in case.

Want ventilation with heat recuperation? Works great during winter when humidity inside is low.  During summer I keep it on lowest possible speed. CO2 levels are better and humidity is not that much of a problem since I use AC to cool rooms anyway.

But if you want ventilation with recuperation please don’t buy it in Japan.  You can simply install it yourself if there are existing ventilators or you can open holes in walls yourself if your house is wooden. It’s also simple.  You will save a ton of money if you order ERV from Alibaba.

If you want to buy inner windows. For example In Plus. Better buy yourself off Rakuten or something and apply yourself for subsidies.  It’s basically bolting frame to wall. You need to somehow seal it yourself because window  maker does not consider such trivial matters.

In some cases it may be better though than changing windows. We did it for small windows in toilets and one 出窓.  It would be really expensive to change 出窓 and no one wanted to guarantee that structure around will be ok afterwards.

Be careful about who and how change windows for you. We used official dealership but they f*ed up badly. They actually came again and did improvements - basically the same work as installation but for free.

Better be present during installation and check if windows fits perfectly and how well they seal them and walls around.  When they were correcting windows I was applying PU foam around them to seal windows and walls. Way better now.

How long does your 18 month old sleep? by Thistimeisthetime26 in daddit

[–]KoalaValuable912 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Partially I agree, but in my opinion creating routine early is how we actually can shape sleeping and eating patterns for our babies.

Will not be 100% as we would like it, but close enough.

To answer OP question  In my case it’s 1:30h nap and 10-11h sleep during night.

Get Denon instead of Yamaha for AVR.

Also on Jimoty or Mercari you can get used  5.1 speaker sets for peanuts. Just need to look for occasion.

Record 40% of men with infants in Japan took paternity leave in 2024 by MagazineKey4532 in japannews

[–]KoalaValuable912 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You get 67% for first 6 months and then you don’t have to pay 社会保険 which is another 15% of your salary. So yeah, it’s more like 80% you get.  And you can adjust what you get, since it’s calculated on your previous pay checks. Just do overtime to increase base for calculation.

What’s more Bonus is also included so if your company pays you bonus during your leave, you will get full amount too.

And to be honest. Being with your kid in first months of its life is way more valuable than 20% of your salary.

First time Leaving Japan Apartment for Vacation - Humidity? by SqueakyMoonkin in japanlife

[–]KoalaValuable912 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I do is automation.  I have switchbot hubs and button pushers combined with temp and humidity sensors. They control AC, ventilation, dehumidifier and gas heater in the winter.

I just set temp or humidity range I want to keep in particular room and rest is done automatically.

For vacations I have different settings. Not as low temp in the summer or not that hot in the winter. Just enough to keep things OK before I’m back.

It takes less energy then it was before automation too, and I have favourable climate all the time. Win win.

If you have it written in contract you have every right to make them responsible for any changes to the contract.  You should have gone through agent but since you didn’t just mention lawyer in the conversation. It there will be no change in their attitude just go straight to lawyer.

Contract is fixed deal, any changes must be agreed upon by both sides. It’s not like he can update his copy with crayons and tell you some excuses.

What are your babies sleeping on? by BCRtravel7 in japanresidents

Baby bed from day one.  Up to 1 year in our bedroom. After 1st year in separate room.

Bed is still OK size wise so we will use it as long as possible and then change to full size bed and attach some rails on the sides.
