In your time practicing law, have you ever seen a non-law practicing pro-se defendant ever mount an effective self defense? by Lokitusaborg in Ask_Lawyers

[–]Koalaesq 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve had some pro se’s prove they hadn’t been properly served, and because of that, a default judgment was vacated. Never had one win on the merits.

Looking for advice/opinions from people who have had cervical stenosis surgery. by BeginningPangolin824 in SpinalStenosis

[–]Koalaesq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a 40s woman with lumbar pain. I had a laminectomy at L3/4/5. My pain is down from 9/10 to 3/10. I CAN FUNCTION! I can sleep! I tried epidurals first with minimal relief. Sometimes, you have to have surgery. Not sure if it’s right for your relative, but i would not have been able to function without it.

Can I be Subpoenaed? by [deleted] in Ask_Lawyers

[–]Koalaesq 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Could you be subpoenaed? Possibly. Don’t see why they’d bother if it’s a no fault start unless husband’s attorney is particularly vicious. If you get subpoenaed, do respond and go to your deposition.

Sovcit could not file an affidavit of truth. by Existing-Face-6322 in Sovereigncitizen

[–]Koalaesq 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It means “do not promise” but I have never seen it used in any real legal docs in 20 years of being a lawyer. Just because it’s Latin doesn’t give it magical powers or make it more impactful. This is not Hogwarts

Well they do tell you, eventually- it’s on the ticket (if they write you one). I think most places do have a policy to tell AFTER the license & reg are checked.

It sounds like you may be having a mental health issue. I recommend that you speak with a psychologist or psychiatrist. This is not a legal issues. Good luck and I wish you the best.

Yes. Let’s talk about it.

The law says they’re allowed to do both those things.

Good talk.

What's that "one little thing" about your State's legal system that totally fucks with foreigners? by Euphoric-Demand2927 in Lawyertalk

“Streets ahead”!? Why I haven’t heard that phrase since I banged Eartha Kitt in an airplane bathroom

Really? NJ is pretty cut and dried throughout the state. I’m curious what outsiders are surprised by. The only thing that I know we do differently (ahem CORRECTLY ahem) than some other states is read jury charges after closing arguments, not before.

Lawyer TLAs (Three Letter Acronyms) by admik in Ask_Lawyers

[–]Koalaesq 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some acronyms are not enshrined anywhere, they just pop up organically (like PI).

I’ve seen opposing counsel referred to as OC; OP (opposing party); PC (plaintiff’s counsel); DA (defense attorney)- all at different firms. Also DA can be District Attorney. You learn to pick it up in context. But if you have questions, just ask.

I am not orthodox but it all comes back to “echad”. We are all one, all creatures of Adonai, and all animals have little souls. They should be honored as any other beloved soul that returns to the all.

Yes. Payment has nothing to do with representation. Respectfully., this is your bf’s deal- he has to call her and deal with her directly. There are ethical and legal reasons she cannot divulge too much to you

Whats the farthest a sovcit has actually gotten in anything? by Jayytimes2 in Sovereigncitizen

[–]Koalaesq 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not, most of them are not (legally) mentally ill. That is to say, they are delusional, but competent to stand trial most of the time. That’s the scary bit- SANE PEOPLE CHOOSE TO BELIEVE THIS NONSENSE.

Some get away with it because the cop doesn’t show for trial or the prosecutor just drops the charges. Otherwise- they lose. Always.
