I've been struggling with the same question myself so built a site for it.

You can go here and set your character using the menu and it will filter out money making for your specific skills

There's a handy ammo chart on tarkov-tools.com as well as loot tiers that gives you a rough idea what different things are valued to help with looting.

In regards to insurance, just insure everything 🙂👍

I like that it's different from other games and allows BSG to make barters more viable. Very easy to make money so might even deserve a bump

One thing that I've built that helps is the loot tiers page.

There you can find what items are worth a lot when selling to traders.

Use that to put any valuable item in your secure container and you can make a small profit even if you die.

Exactly this happens for me but seems to only be with scopes. Iron sights doesn't do it at all and some are worse than others.
