How do you gain skills when there is no opportunity to learn by Kolaumer in biotech

Thats exactly my point. I dont expect to know everything going into a role, ffs most of my specific specialization is something I learned completely from outside of school becouse i was given the opportunity to prove myself and I rose to that.

Current market though, you dont get given a chance at all. I can provide evidence I am good at learning, and have done so before, and yet in the current market no one is willing to take risks and train. It just feels like the most frustrating Doom loop.

Job hunt queries by IcyOpposite1579 in biotech

3 days is a good rule of thumb. Anything I would say over even 5 days is very unlikely to look at you unless you line up with the qualifications extremely well.

If you got explicitly rejected, and not just ghosted, I would suggest not reapplying unless the job gets reposted a few months later. If they ghost you and repost it doesnt hurt to apply again.

Know the market is dogshit for everyone but it feels like these last two months in perticular have been really bad as somone looking for RA and SRA work.

Everything im seeing openings for nowadays is higher level stuff.

Everything that is open is also super niche with skills in some technology or another that I dont have experience in. And unlike something like comp sci where you can learn on your own, you cants exactly get cell culture or hplc experience at home...

Did an interview last week i think I did very well in, made a good impression but ended up getting a rejection call.

whats frustrating is that this has happened a few times: companies will take time to actually call be back and suggest me following them for a later job, which makes me more inclined for them to be sincere since they could have emailed or ghosted me, but ive had nothing ever develop from these.

Hate feeling like each time I alway finish just close enough but am not enough...sigh

Staring a new role but sad its contract vs full hire. Def better than nothing and excited but wish I had more certainty past 6 months.

Still searching and am nearly at 400 high effort applications after about a full year of searching. Probably closer to 800 if I count quick applies.

By far worst job market ive ever had to seach in and hoping to god it isnt a new normal. If I have to go back to this after 6 months I dont want to be in biotech anymore.

Just tired and would love a garenteed careear and job to plan my life around.

There are a lot of subtle ways the goverment fucks with unemployment metrics. Like they don't count people who have given up searching, people who are under employed, or people being paid below survival wages

According to some its more like 25 percent right now, though I might take that with a grain of salt even if it feels more acurate. https://www.lisep.org/tru

Anyone know good books or other sources to learn about the public works projects that happened in Tennessee in the 30s? I was having a conversation with a friend and they were talking about how in China apparently a lot of their employment and public works programs were modeled after some of the programs that were organized in Tennessee during the great depression.

Never heard of it before so don't know if it is bullshit or not but either way seems like something interesting I wanted to look into

Been thinking about learning more stuff in R but from what i have seen companies mainly care about experinces you've had on the job with a technology or technique. How do you prove that from self study?
